Images

There is only one image on the double page spread, this then helps to fill out one page of the spread. As it is the biggest part of the double page spread this attracts the eye of the audience. The main image is of the female artist, Florence Welch from the band Florence + the Machine. Because she has been photographed this represents to the reader that the article is about her. The feature headline is ‘got the love’, which then links in with her latest song/album. The imagery has also been designed large so when a potential customer is flicking through the magazine the double page spread and then the image will catch their eye.

The style of the photography is very simple. The posed is quite seductive as plenty of her leg can be seen. This can then be going against the way the artist is usually presented, which is innocent and extremely ladylike. The style of photography is stylistic, with a simple and plain white background which contrasts with the other colours that have been used within the rest of the double page spread. This makes the costume and other props stand out more. The colour scheme of black white and red has been used and these colours go together well to give a modern and stylistic look.

Q – Lady Gaga

Page 9: Double page spread1

LayoutWhen looking at the layout of this Lady Gaga article within a Q magazine, a large image of Lady Gaga has been used which fills up the whole of the left page of the spread. The right page of the spread has been used purely just for text. Three columns have been used to write the text, this allows all of the article to fit onto the page. Within the top right corner of the article the name of the artist Lady Gaga has been used in a smaller text. This is because she is extremely recognised and the image will show readers who the article is about.

A red, white and grey colour scheme has been used. A black and white image has been used to tie in with the rest of the double page spread. This creates a modern and contemporary style.

• Every section of text within the main article is all the same size. A large ‘L’ has been used on top of the article, this L stands for Lady Gaga and helps tie in with the article. This makes the page look modern and stylish. As well as the NME magazine there are also three columns of text which are aligned which explain and open the article.

ImagesWithin this double page spread there is only one image of the female artists. Again similar to NME magazine it is the biggest part of the double page spread and this then helps to attract the eye of the audiences. The one/main image of the article is of Lady Gaga, this image is large and very bold which can be linked the representation of the artist. She has been photographed nude with chains around her neck, this again can link in with her ‘rebellious’ and strange persona she holds. The imagery again also been designed large so when a potential customer is flicking through the magazine the double page spread and then the image will catch their eye. The colours of the imagery have been created so they look stylish and modern, without using bold and bright colours.

When comparing both double page spreads we can see how they are both similar in many aspects even though they have both been taken from different magazines. Q and NME both aim for the same audiences and this can be seen within the double page spreads. The same colours and layout have been used when looking at both images and text, this has helped to create a stylish, attractive and contemporary looking double spread for each magazine.
