Handling of Bell mounted OLTCs during VPD & Tanking at Trafo end
Correct method:
Diverter switch should be fitted on OLTC
with Headonly.
Head
Wrong method:
Diverter switch should not be fitted on
Aluminium Bell mounting Top flange
without OLTC Head.
Alu. Bell Mounting Flange.
If the diverter switch was mounted on the
OLTC head then the gap will be achieved
in between Nylon numbering disc gear
and Diverter Fixed Contact Shell(DFCA)
Gap 4 mm.
If the diverter switch was mounted on the
Bell mounting flange with out OLTC head
then the Diverter Fixed Contact Shell(DFCA) will foul on the numbering disc
Nylon gear resulting damage in
numbering disc gear.
Fouling area.

Fouling of Diverter will led to damage of
Numbering disc Nylon gear teeth.
Fouling of Diverter will also lead to
damage the center stem of Numbering
disc Nylon gear.
Two types of gear damage due to
improper handling of OLTCs during VPD
and Tanking process.
a) Teeth broken.b) Stem broken.
Conclusion:
Diverter switch should not be inserted without OLTC Aluminium / Fabricated Head.
