Dorothy in Wonderland
Setting
written by: Brian D. Taylorproduced and directed by: Katherine Alexanderco-directed by: Alyssa Burtonproduced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Services
The worlds of Oz and Wonderland collide in this fantastically fun romp, cleverly and carefully adapted from the works of L. Frank Baum and Lewis Carroll. Dorothy Gale has made her way to the end of the Yellow Brick Road, and the wonderful Wizard of Oz is just about to help her get back to Kansas. But before she can hop into the wiz-ard’s balloon, another whirlwind appears over the Emerald City, sweeping Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion away to Wonderland. Equipped with their new assets – brains, heart and courage – Dorothy’s friends try to help her find her way home, meeting many other interesting characters along the way.

Producer and Director*Katherine AlexanderKatherine Alexander earned her teaching certificate attending classes at Gainesville Junior College (where she attended on a full theater scholarship), UGA and Northwestern University. Certified to teach Theater, as well as Mathematics, she taught at Hilsman MS, Athens Tech and George Walton Academy. Prior to her arrival at Mill Creek in 2008 she taught theatre full time at Berkmar HS for nine years, directing 48 main stage plays and musicals. This production marks her 28th play/musical here at Mill Creek. She developed a love for theatre in early childhood and has been involved in theatre for over 26 years. Some of her favorite roles as an actress over the years include Dorothy in The Wiz, Annie Sullivan in The Miracle Worker, Guinevere in Camelot, Dr. Einstein in Arsenic & Old Lace, Dolly in Hello, Dolly!, Mrs. Pearce in My Fair Lady, Maria in The Sound of Music, Dolly in The Matchmaker and The Clown in Reese & Babe. Some of her favorite things about directing are the collaborative process and the unique and interesting challenges that each show present.
Guest Director*Alyssa Jo BurtonAlyssa Jo Burton graduated from Mill Creek High School in 2012 where she performed as Prioress in The Canterbury Tales, Eviliine in The Wiz, Star in John Lennon and Me and Cordelia in Beast of the Baskervilles. She is currently studying theatre at the University of North Georgia in Gainesville and will receive her AA this year. Her production experience during her time in high school and college includes over 13 productions. Her passion for theatre has grown to encompass not only performing, which she has always loved, but writing plays (the first being The Curious Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, which she wrote and directed her senior year at Mill Creek High School, and Rapunzel;UnTangled, which she wrote and directed for Mill Creek High School Theatre in 2014) and directing, including last year’s production of Pride and Prejudice and this year’s production of Little Women, for which she served as a Guest Director.
Alyssa would like to thank Katherine Alexander for her support and the oppportunity to continue her education by working with the students here at Mill Creek High School. *Thespian
