THE CLIENT

Post-Quantum was founded in 2009 to commercialise defence-grade innovation in wireless and data communications. In the six subsequent years it has developed a modular toolkit of innovative cybersecurity products.

The Post-Quantum team has extensive expertise in the data security, defence and intelligence sectors, countering both physical and cyber threats. As well as having strong links to academia and the financial services industries, the company has assembled a panel of advisors that includes a number of the most respected cryptologists and security experts in the world.

The company has recently won secure communication contracts with a government agency and a major financial institution. It is a graduate of the Barclays/Techstars FinTech Accelerator programme based in East London.

THE OPPORTUNITY

PQ were looking for an enterprise grade development partner to take their secure messenger app to the next level.

Having secured opportunities in banking, law enforcement and health care, PQ needed to deliver against an aggressive development roadmap while at the same time ensuring a very high level of quality throughout.

PQ selected Dootrix for their proven expertise across a wide range of technologies and for their reputation of integrity.

Post-Quantum

THE APPROACH

Dootrix assessed the existing IP, client/server architecture and code-base to establish a handover plan.

The initial focus was to improve the quality and reliability of PQ’s flagship iOS messenger app and integrate a new secure voice calling feature. A native android version of the app was also commissioned in parallel.

Working in partnership with PQ and a third party VoIP provider in Sweden, Dootrix used their considerable project experience to work along-side the various teams and manage the inter-dependencies; a mature agile process was introduced to iterate and deliver against the product roadmap in two week sprints.

PQ’s priorities changed when they won the opportunity to join Barclays on the techstars accelerator programme; additional resource was needed to develop a new key sharding technology demonstrator. This required expertise well beyond the current scope of the engagement.

Dootrix were able to quickly ramp up a new team with the right skills while continuing to deliver against the original roadmap.

THE RESULTS

Dootrix delivered native applications on iOS and Android that offer enterprise users a

secure, managed, white-label alternative to WhatsApp or Facebook messenger.

PQ’s messenger app, developed in conjunction with Dootrix, has now been used by Barclays, NATO and several UK Police forces nationwide.

PQ and Dootrix subsequently worked together on an innovative new key splitting and sharing technology. This technology is now under review at Barclays, who have since commissioned an extended proof of concept.

Dootrix were able to guide PQ into a mature process and a proven delivery model; features are now planned, documented, tested and delivered according to a well understood product backlog.

By working closely with Dootrix, PQ are able to enjoy a new level of confidence in their technology and their team.
