Fire door systemsî May be linked to fire alarm system, holding the door open in normal

use but closing automatically in an emergency.î Many different options to suit single and double doors and alternative

methods of operation.

Floor springsî Designed to work on timber, metal and glass doors, with single and

double action fittings available.î Available in different power ratings according to BS EN 1154, and

includes models rated for use on fire doors.î The range provides the capability to be adjusted on-site in order to

help reduce installation costs.

ApplicationDoor closer for use on internal and external doors, including fire doors and those exposed to high wind pressure. The 300 with delayed closing is ideal for doors in high-traffic areas which need to remain open for longer periods.

Supplied as standard with closer body, detachable cover and fixings.

Arms, mounting plates etc are supplied separately: see pages 6:17-19.

Operates with rack and pinion mechanism with thermodynamic valves for consistent performance.

Door Controls


Hold open device for use on fire doors. When used in conjunction with a separate fire alarm or smoke detection system, allows the door to be held open in normal circumstances but to close automatically in case of fire.

Particularly suitable for high traffic doors or those likely to be used by children, the elderly or disabled people.

ASSA ABLOY free swing system

Used in conjunction with standard or sliding free swing arm and control unit or power supply (all supplied separately).


Connection box available for use when unit is fitted to door rather than frame.

î640 free swing systemFor single doorsElectrohydraulic hold-open system. When active the free swing function allows the door to be opened and closed freely, without resistance. Free swing angle adjustable up to 180°. Adjustable closing strength of CEN sizes 3 - 6 (3 - 4 when used with sliding arm). Features adjustable backcheck as standard. Arm is supplied separately.

Closes door when correct signal is given.

Power rating 24V DC, 90mA.

Operates with hydraulically damped rack and pinion mechanism. Cast aluminium body is made from high performance silicon alloy, and the detachable cover is made from ABS with stainless steel available as an option.

Door Controls


Hold open device for use on fire doors. When used in conjunction with a separate fire alarm or smoke detection system, allows the door to be held open in normal circumstances but to close automatically in case of fire.

Particularly suitable for high traffic doors or those likely to be used by children, the elderly or disabled people.

Free swing system

Used in conjunction with standard or sliding free swing arm and control unit or power supply (all supplied separately).

Connection box available for use when unit is fitted to door rather than frame.

îFD440 free swing systemFor single doorsElectrohydraulic hold-open system. When active the free swing function allows the door to be opened and closed freely, without resistance. First opening cycle has resistance as a normal door closer. Door must be pushed open to a minimum of 70º in order to activate the free swing function.

Closes door when correct signal is given.

î104 328 emergency door stopConverts double action door to single action. Release mechanism activated by finger lever allows the door to swing open in the opposite direction again.

ApplicationPivots for centre hung double action doors. The emergency door stop converts a double-action to a single-action door in normal use, but can be released to allow the door to be opened the other way in an emergency – for example on a disabled toilet cubicle door where staff may need to gain access if the user collapses against the door (as recommended by BS 8300).

Pivots are steel, with steel or bronze ball-bearings. Supplied with both woods screws and machine screws. Not handed.

Emergency door stop is bronze with a rubber bumper in an ABS case.

ASSA door closers have a removable cover made from ABS, which may be supplied in any standard RAL colour in addition to the coloured and metallic finishes shown.

The 240+DC is also available with a stainless steel cover and arm.

ASSA door closers are available in a range of sizes to meet the different closing torque requirements of the CEN standards BS EN 1154, 1155 and 1158. The correct product should be selected to suit the application.

Closing torque on fire doors must fall within the blue (and blue striped) area(Minimum closing force according to BS EN 1154)

Opening torque on accessible doors must fall within the red (and red striped) area(Maximum opening force according to BS 8300)

Note that BS EN 1154 states that door closers with a minimum power rating of 3 should be used on fire doors.

Accessible doors as defined in BS 8300 (amended 2005) should require no more than 30 N force to open.

Due to their high efficiency rating, ASSA cam action door closers are able to meet the requirements of both BS EN 1154 and BS 8300 and comply with Document M of the Building Regulations, as shown in the graph opposite.

BS EN 1154 classifies door closers and BS EN 1155 and 1158 classify fire door systems under the categories shown opposite.

Door Controls


Full fitting instructions are included with each door closer.

The door closer arm is fully adjustable. This allows the user to vary the arm height and the spring force preset, which determines the closing speed and (where applicable) the back check starting angle.

The closing and latching speed, and where appropriate the power rating, backcheck and delayed closing, may be adjusted by turning the valves on the door closer body. Specific instructions for each model are included in its fitting instructions.

Door closer adjustment

Adjustable Closing Speed(All models)Both the initial closing speed and the final closing speed may be adjusted separately.

Delayed Closing(Option on 300, 335 & 240)Slows down the closing of the door from the fully open position to approximately 70°, after which point it closes normally. Suitable for doors in high traffic areas to permit easier passage. Note: not suitable for fire doors.

Back Check(Standard on all models except 500, 215, 330)A brake slows the opening of the door from when it reaches approximately 80° until the fully open position. Used to prevent damage to the door or wall, especially in areas subject to high wind pressure. (Note: fitting a door stop is still recommended.)

Special features


The door closers may be fitted to the pull side of the door (figure 1), or to the frame on the push side of the door (figure 61). In addition, a mounting bracket is available allowing the closer to be fitted to the push side of the door (figure 66).

The products are suitable for use on internal and external doors, at operating temperatures between -30°C and +60°C.
