Union Catholic Regional High School prepares a diverse student body to fulfill their college and career goals by cultivating the students’ achievement of academic standards of excellence within a value-centered environment, strong in its commitment to our core values (respect, responsibility, honesty, compassion, and community), and to the establishment of a community of faith and love in the Catholic tradition.

Within a cutting-edge, innovative, and technologically infused educational environment, Union Catholic develops and celebrates the unique gifts and talents of each student. Its strong programs in academics, athletics, activities, and service prepare students for life in the real, spiritual, and virtual worlds.

NEW The Class of ’68 Endowed ScholarshipThe scholarship was founded in 2018 by Union Catholic’s Class of ’68 in honor of their 50th Graduation Anniversary.

The Elizabeth Ann Carolan Endowed ScholarshipEstablished in 2013 by the D’Antico and Carolan families, this scholarship honors the memory of Elizabeth Carolan, grandmother of Michael D’Antico ‘13.

2018 Recipients: Lucas Cloppse ’18, Jillian Hamilton ‘18

The Mary J. Cullinane Endowed ScholarshipEstablished in 2015 by Mary J. Cullinane ’86 (Faculty 1991-1999) in loving memory of her mom, Margaret O’Donnell Cullinane, this scholarship provides a financial award to a hard-working student whose grandparents provide tuition assistance.

The Dr. Karen S. Piasecki Endowed ScholarshipThe Dr. Karen S. Piasecki ‘88 Endowed Scholarship was established in 2017 by Nancy E. Foulks ‘76 in recognition of Dr. Piasecki’s 25 years of service to Union Catholic and her commitment to educational opportunities for students at all learning levels. This scholarship will be awarded to an enrolled UC student in the Foundations program who is working to maximum potential and is actively involved in all aspects of the UC Community.

The Dorothy Grzankowski Endowed ScholarshipEstablished in 2012 by Susan Bischoff, parent of James Bischoff ‘01, in memory of her mother, the scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who intends to pursue a degree in education, preferably elementary education.

2018 Recipient: Olivia Yarem ‘18

The Joseph Grzankowski Endowed ScholarshipEstablished in 2012, this scholarship was founded in Joseph’s memory by his daughter, Susan Bischoff, mother of James Bischoff ‘01 and is awarded to a graduating senior who intends to study at Rutgers University.

2018 Recipient: Katie Pinckney ‘18

The Hall of Fame Endowed Scholarship FundEstablished in 2015, The Hall of Fame Endowed Scholarship Fund offers Hall of Fame inductees and all members a meaningful way to give back to Union Catholic.

The Sister Percylee Hart, RSM Endowed Scholarship FundEstablished in 2015, on the anniversary of her 35 years of service as Principal of Union Catholic, this scholarship fulfilled a personal dream of Sister Percylee’s to support an industrious freshman who is determined to attend a Catholic school and is thriving in UC’s faith-filled environment.

2018 Recipient: Caroline Morgan ‘21

The Sister M. Eloise Claire Kays, RSM Endowed ScholarshipEstablished in 2010, this scholarship was established in memory of Sister Eloise, who passed away in 2009. Sister served the UC Community as a freshman guidance counselor from 2000-2009.

2018 Recipient: Catherine McGovern ‘21

The Rocco Lettieri Endowed ScholarshipEstablished in 2013 by his family, wife Caroline and sons Michael ‘83 and Joseph ‘84, this scholarship honors the memory of Rocco Lettieri (Faculty/Staff 1967-2000).

2018 Recipient: Isabella DiDario ‘18

The Coach Kathy Matthews Endowed ScholarshipEstablished in 2017 by former players and supporters of the Union Catholic Girls Basketball program, The Coach Kathy Matthews Endowed Scholarship recognizes Coach Matthews’ historic 700th career victory. The scholarship highlights the values of discipline and work-ethic that are hallmarks of her teaching and coaching style. This scholarship salutes the legacy that Coach Matthews has created in her illustrious career at UC.

The Nancy L. Occhipinti Endowed ScholarshipEstablished in 2013 by Karen Occhipinti O’Keefe ‘80 and her sisters, Nancy Occhipinti Noe ‘81 and Lauren Occhipinti Koppel ‘84, in loving memory of their mother, Nancy, this scholarship is awarded to a graduate of St. John the Apostle School, Clark, NJ who attends Union Catholic.

2018 Recipient: Annie Hartnett ‘22

The Sister Regina Smith, RSM Endowed ScholarshipEstablished in 2010 in memory of Sister Regina, who served Union Catholic from 1981 to 1994, this scholarship is awarded to a rising senior who loves reading, writing and language and answers the call to service at UC, home or in the community.

2018 Recipient: Shaun Keating ‘19

The Sara J. Will Endowed Scholarship Established in 2009 by Mary Beth and Jake Cregg, this scholarship is in honor of Sara J. Will, Mary Beth’s mother, who had a great respect for education.

2018 Recipient: Elisabeth Pickel ‘21

NEW The Peter J. Tierney ‘66 Endowed ScholarshipThe Peter J. Tierney ‘66 Endowed Scholarship was established in Peter’s memory in 2018 by his Union Catholic basketball players of 1972-1974, upon whom he left an indelible mark. The scholarship has since been supported by many family members and friends who loved Peter dearly and who benefited from Peter’s impact on their lives. Each year, a Union Catholic junior, who models Peter’s attributes of leadership, friendship, passionate pursuit of one’s interest, and caring for others, will be awarded the scholarship to help pay for his/her Union Catholic tuition.

Stephen A. Galdon Memorial ScholarshipMr. and Mrs. Paulino Rama (parents of Sofia ’19 and Julianne ‘22) and Mrs. Geraldine Galdon created the Stephen A. Galdon Memorial Scholarship to honor Stephen’s kind-heartedness to everyone who was fortunate to know him.

2018 Recipient: Audrey Davis ‘19

The Eldon M. Hammeke ScholarshipThis scholarship was established in memory of Eldon Hammeke by his wife, Grace, and is supported by the Knights of Columbus Summit Council #783, of which Mr. Hammeke was an active member.

JoinMe at UC ScholarshipWhen Janessa Mendoza, Class of ’18, came to Union Catholic as a freshman, she was so happy with her decision that she wanted other students from her home parish of Saint Matthew the Apostle in Edison to join her for the same, great UC Experience.

2018 Recipient: Gregory Katchko ‘21

The Kelemen ScholarshipLivia Kelemen was responsible for the Our Lady of Grace statue in the Memorial Walkway on the front lawn of Union Catholic. The Kelemen Scholarship is awarded to two seniors, who will attend a four-year Catholic college or university.

Joanne Federico Malloy ‘74 Memorial ScholarshipJoanne Federico Malloy, a member of the Union Catholic Class of 1974, was a dedicated nurse for 30 years. This scholarship was founded in 2011 by her fellow classmates.

2018 Recipient: Megan Rodriguez ‘18

One-Room Schoolhouse GrantThis grant was given in 2014 by former faculty member Mr. Bruce Zehnle, who served Union Catholic from 1968 to 2003, to support students who share his passion for the language and culture of Spain.

Joseph A. Placco Memorial ScholarshipJoseph Placco was the husband of Mrs. Marie Placco, who served the UC Community as the Case Manager and School Psychologist on the Child Study Team. This scholarship is awarded to a hard-working student in the Freshman Foundations program.

Susan Satriano Memorial ScholarshipThe Susan Satriano Memorial Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors who will attend college and have a parent who has passed away of cancer or have a parent presently battling cancer.

The Sandra Stagg Memorial ScholarshipThis scholarship was founded in 2009 by the Stagg and Cocoziello families in memory of Sandra Stagg ‘83, who passed away in 1982.

Student-to-Student ScholarshipThe Union Catholic annual Student Giving Challenge raises funds for the Student-to-Student Scholarship, which is awarded to an incoming freshman, who plans to make a positive difference as a member of the UC Community.

Mendoza Scholarship (formerly Whitehouse Laboratories Scholarship)Mr. and Mrs. Angelito Mendoza, parents of Janessa ’18, founded the Mendoza Scholarship to encourage Union Catholic seniors to pursue college degrees in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Pharmacology.

NEW Success My Way ScholarshipTo recognize students like their daughter, Alexsandra (Alex) Ritchey ’17, who take advantage of the opportunity UC offers through the Foundations Program, and who use the opportunity to get themselves where they want to go, Mr. and Mrs. Ritchey founded the Success My Way Scholarship in January 2018.

NEW Union Catholic Performing Arts Scholarship in Memory of Robbie Krienke ‘10Robbie Krienke ’10 was an enthusiastic member of the Union Catholic Performing Arts Company who enjoyed the opportunity to use his gifts and talents onstage in UC’s fall plays and spring musicals. This scholarship was founded by family and friends in his memory.

2018 Recipient: Duane Banks ‘20

Giuliana Velona Memorial ScholarshipGiuliana Velona was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Velona and sister to Nicole ’14, Robert ’17 and Gabriella ’20. She passed away in November 2014 at the age of eight. Mr. and Mrs. Velona created the Giuliana Velona Memorial Scholarship in memory of their daughter.

NEW Wijedasa ScholarshipThe Wijedasa Scholarship was established in 2018 by Mr. Prashanth Wijedasa, father of Imashi Dihana ‘13, Niyasha ‘16 and Ivana ’18 in recognition of the outstanding educational experience that his daughters enjoyed at UC.

The Johanna Wilk Memorial ScholarshipJohanna Wilk was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and loved children of all ages. The goal of the Johanna Wilk Foundation is to keep her spirit alive and to recognize, honor, and foster a spirit similar to hers in scholarship recipients.
