Last Employer: SKE Solutions Ltd. Derryloran Industrial Estate Cookstown Co. Tyrone BT80 9LU
Role: Technical Sales Manager for ROI, NI & Scotland July 2015- November 2015
My role for SKE Solutions Ltd. was to manage the above areas to develop a sales pipeline of projects
through specification of products with consultancies, Irish Water, Northern Ireland Water, Scottish Water,
contractors, and industrial clients.
The product specification included wastewater screening & compaction equipment, grit removal
equipment, FOG removal equipment, conveyors for sludge and screenings, powder handling and dosing
equipment and chemical disinfection generation and dosing equipment.
As part of this role, the generation of enquiries through engagement with consultancies and contractors
had been paramount with the use of CPD presentations to promote the products and services which are
offered by SKE Solutions Ltd.
The full sizing and generation of a commercial and specification package was prepared by me and followed
up on an ongoing basis to create the project pipeline for future sales.
I was also responsible for sales generation which requires sales closing on projects quoted.
Once a sale is closed I also provided the technical back up to the client to ensure the product is installed
correctly and commissioned to the client’s satisfaction.
Based on the above I prepared monthly reports to illustrate the activities for the month and also project
forward activities and sales in the future.
I had developed this role within SKE Solutions Ltd. which previously had little engagement with
consultancies. My prior knowledge of this sector has led me to be able to engage on projects at a much
earlier stage to influence the design of equipment.
Previous Employer: Kingspan Environmental Ltd. 180 Gilford Road, Portadown Co. Armagh BT63 5LF
Previous Role: National Technical Sales Manager: - Water Products 2007- 2014
My role was to provide a specification pipeline for projects through consultancies, architects, contractors,
and local authorities.
The product specification primarily covers the specification of rainwater harvesting equipment but also
would include such products as sewage treatment systems, sewage pumping stations, separators,
attenuation products, and grease removal systems.
The work requires close liaison with engineers in different fields from civil, structural, electrical and
mechanical disciplines.
Rainwater Harvesting as a technology affects building design, drainage design, internal plumbing and
electrical design and structural design. To successfully specify this technology, an in depth knowledge of
the various disciplines is required for me to be able to converse at a high level to ensure the design works
correctly for all parts of the build project.
As part of this role I provided Continued Professional Development presentations on Rainwater Harvesting
to all disciplines.
My role also included technical support for product installations which can cover pre-install meetings,
project meetings, site fault finding, and installation and maintenance recommendations for contractors and
end customers.
I also provided site support/technical recommendations to the warranty team.
I worked closely with the technical sales team within Kingspan Environmental Ltd. to provide background
and specification details on projects which are ongoing.
I also provided technical support and product knowledge input to the other Kingspan Divisions (Panels and
Insulation) where required.
An example of this would be my presentation to the Minister for the Environment (Mr Gormley) and the
Dept. of Environment staff, with the CEO of Kingspan (Gene Murtagh) on Rainwater Harvesting in 2008.
My remit covered the UK and Ireland and requires me to travel to all parts of the UK and Ireland to conduct
my duties.
Previous Positions
2003-2007 Kingspan Environmental Ltd. (Envirocare)
Position:- National Technical Sales Manager
My employment within the Kingspan organisation started with the above role.
The role was to set up a sales office and team in Cavan to provide a technical specification and product
selection service for the Envirocare brand for the Irish market.
The product range included commercial and multi domestic sewage treatment systems, pumping stations,
rainwater harvesting systems, separators and grease removal systems.
The challenges included: - setting up a sales office with an operating structure, data base CRM on projects,
enquiry processing procedures, specification templates, product information packs, sales order processing,
and technical support for all product sales.
The Envirocare sales team was the largest Kingspan sales team with over 35 employees across Ireland
which required sales and technical support by me to bring orders in for the larger projects.
The remit for this role was in Ireland and involved a considerable amount of travel to provide support and
sales closure on projects during the 2003-2007 period.
1999-2003 FM Environmental Ltd Newry
Role: Area Technical Specification Manager (Northern Ireland and border counties)
The role was to provide projects and sales of wastewater products and projects which included sewage
treatment systems pumping stations and grease removal systems. The client base was varied from private
enterprises to municipal projects.
The role also included the creation of a specification pipeline for projects which required working closely
with consultants and architects on project designs.
The turnover target set in 1999 was set at £500k which I exceeded within 7 months to an eventual budget
of over £1 million by the time I left in 2003 having secured £1.1 million the previous year.
1995-1999 FM Environmental Ltd Newry
Role: Specification Engineer
My role was an office based role to provide tender submissions for municipal projects and contract tenders
throughout the NI and ROI markets.
This role required the interpretation of project specifications, project analysis, product design and
selection for sewage treatment systems, pump system designs, control panel design, and supporting
calculations.
The provision of a tender submission required the collation of information in a neat and readable manner
to project the professional credentials of the company.
In a competitive tender situation it also required the ability to think laterally to provide compliant solutions
in an innovative and competitive manner to secure orders.
1991-1995 FM Environmental Ltd Newry
Role: Contracts Engineer
My role was to project manage orders, provide contract BOMs, specification drawings, product integration
analysis and provide a project programme from design through to commissioning.
The project management aspect required liaison with customers, consulting engineers, architects,
contractors, sub-contractors, local authorities, installation staff and maintenance staff.
The profitability of the projects was the responsibility of the contracts engineer which required close
scrutiny of costs, securing of extra order requirements, submission of project claims, and collecting
payments as required.
Project sizes ranged from £10k to over £1 million.
1988-1991 FM Environmental Ltd. Newry
Role: Procurement Manager and Stock Controller
In 1988 Fitzpatrick Systems merged with PWS Contracts to form FM Environmental Ltd. As part of this
merger the two separate companies brought together their stock of parts and equipment.
My role initially was to reconcile all of the stock into one holding, computerise the stock control system to
provide up to date analysis of stock levels and movements and control the build-up of costs within the
stock.
The role also included buying everything for the company, from day to day stock requirements to high end
specified products for projects.
The requirement to evaluate product specifications and compare quotations meant that I had to develop an
in depth knowledge of the component specifications and also be able to source new products to keep our
company competitive in a highly technical marketplace.
The role also required good negotiating skills to get the best deal and service from suppliers to keep us
competitive.
1986-1988 Fitzpatrick Systems Ltd.
Role: Contracts Assistant and Stock Controller
The role consisted of controlling of all stock movements and transfers, storing of all stock for projects in a
collated format, and issuing equipment for projects to installation engineers.
As part of the role of contracts assistant to the principal engineer, I prepared BOMs for projects,
procurement and stock lists, and orders for suppliers I also reviewed drawings for submission to clients.
The above role required me to have a technical overview of large projects and be able to interpret
requirements from drawings for product procurement.
It also provided me with the opportunity to learn the skillsets required to project manage and produce
project financial claims on an interim basis.
1983 -1986 Fitzpatrick Systems Ltd.
Role: Draughtsman
I joined Fitzpatrick Systems on an attachment training scheme for 3 months to train up in technical
drawing within the company.
After the three month training period was up, I joined the company to become the draughtsman
responsible for all technical drawings within the company. This included drawings for product
manufacture, civil installation and electrical installation requirements.
The projects covered included municipal sewage treatment systems, municipal specification pumping
stations, private package treatment systems, private pumping stations, and various other projects.
As part of the drawing process, the provision of the BOM for each project was also completed by me to
provide the contract engineers with a ready-made list of equipment to procure for their individual projects.
