Dear Allen Creek Families, The 2018-2019 school year is well under way! We have many new students and their families joining Allen Creek this year and we want to welcome all of you! As I visit our classrooms, it is exciting to see students engaged in learning at high levels. Allen Creek is a great place to learn and grow. I want to take a moment and introduce our new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Patty Allen. Mrs. Allen is coming to Marysville from the Edmonds School District. Allen Creek is fortunate to have her in our building Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week (we share her talents with Sunnyside Elementary on Monday and Tuesday). Please join me in welcoming her to our school. As the year has started, it is necessary to review a few important points for our families to help our school run smoothly: Parking lot- Please use the North parking lot only for student drop off and pick- up. You will notice at the entrance to the South lot a sign noting “No student drop off or pick up”…this is due to the fact that our buses utilize the south lot and cars pulling in and out keep them from safely leaving our Let’s hear it from our Principal lot. Thank you for your attention to this. Dogs are not permitted on campus. Please do not bring your dogs to school during pick up or drop off. Closed campus- For student safety, our campus is closed during school hours. When you arrive on campus, please check into the office. The playground is closed/off limits before and after school, until 4:00. Our YMCA daycare has use of the playground before and after school. Arrivals to school-Please do not have students come through the main hallway in the morning. As your child arrives in the morning, they can go to the north side of the school and enter through the cafeteria doors if they are eating breakfast. Please do not arrive earlier as there is no student supervision prior to this time.

Thank you for your attention to the above areas. Working together we can provide a safe and orderly school-learning environment.

CHOIR OFF TO A GREAT START!!!

We had a fantastic start during our first “check it out” rehearsal last Wednesday. Please

remember the following if your child has chosen to participate in choir this year.

1) Mr. Malmstead will send home a “Letter of Commitment” for both student and parent to

sign—affirming their weekly attendance each Wednesday

2) Please drop off your child at the FRONT of the school no earlier than 8:20 for our re-

hearsal that begins promptly at 8:30 in P-4.

3) We’ll be sending home a form for purchase of choir shirts. We’ll all wear the short-

sleeved T-shirt at concerts but there are also options to purchase other styles.

4) Our first “gig” will be singing at our upcoming Veteran’s Day assembly on November

8th.

5) We’ll begin practice for our holiday concert in early November. Date TBA.

RECORDERS ARE HERE!

Just a quick note to parents to remind your child to keep both recorder and

music book in their backpacks. That way, they are both at school and at home

when needed.

5th graders are working to prepare a song for our upcoming Veteran’s Day

assembly on November 8th.

Encourage your child to practice at home to support their learning in class!

Thanks!

Welcome to the Allen Creek Library! You might have noticed some things are different and that starts with

me...Mrs. Cameron. Many of you know me as a second grade teacher, but I was given the opportunity to move to

the library this school year. This is my 24th (!) year at Allen Creek, teaching kindergarten, first, and second grades in

the past. I have enjoyed growing with the school and your children. Since I love books and I love children, the library was a natural place to me to be. It’s been a great start to

the year. I begin each day with fifth graders and end it with kindergarten. I enjoy sharing excitement and appreciation

for reading, as well as lessons on growth mindset and respectful behavior. I look forward to seeing families at the

Book Fairs.

Allen Creek Students and Families:

My name is Sandra Madrigal, and I am the counselor at Allen Creek. I was here several years ago and was then “Miss K.” I left for a few years and went up to Totem Middle School, where I was still able to work with our incoming Allen Creek students. I am so happy to be back here and working with all the wonderful stu-dents, families, and staff.

This year I will be in your child’s classrooms teaching social skills lessons as well as mindfulness. My goal is to help kids understand the magic of their brain and how to calm their minds and bodies so they can feel success-ful at school, home, and beyond. I will be using Superflex Curriculum as well as mindfulness practices. I will work with them on practical tools they can use to calm down, solve problems, and feel focused at school.

I will also be assisting monthly with our character education assemblies and lessons. September was com-munity and October will be focused on respect. I will also be working in conjunction with our gym teacher, Cathy Johnson on social skills/friendship groups that specifically focus on a skill (like how to manage emo-tions, team work, etc.) and then we will give them a scenario where they have to practice this skill together.

I look forward to getting to know you and your student. If you have any questions, concerns, or need resources please feel free to contact me.

CHECK OUT THE LOST AND FOUND THAT IS IN THE HALL ACROSS FROM THE OFFICE.

ALL ITEMS ARE DONATED 3

TIMES A YEAR. PLEASE PUT

NAMES IN YOUR CHILD’S

COATS AND LUNCH BOXES.

HEAD LICE CHECKING TIME Anyone can get head lice… Mainly through head-to-head contact. Lice transmit no illness, and cause no disease, but they do cause concern to parents and teachers. We are encouraging parents to check their child’s hair every week. Head lice tend to be a silent visitor, therefore early detection makes treatment much easier. We strive to protect all students privacy in dealing with this issue.

Please visit the Snohomish County Health District’s website: wwwsnohd.org for more information.
