EXHIBIT ENTRIES WANTED"Dollhouses and Room Boxes" is the title of the upcoming HolidayExhibit at the Warrensburgh Museum, sponsored by the
Warrensburgh Historical Society. The exhibit will run from De-cember 7 through January 15. Local residents are invited to sub-mit their dollhouses or "room boxes" for consideration at this juriedshow. Due to dollhouse sizes and space considerations at the mu-seum, the number accepted must be limited. Children and youthgroups are welcome to submit a dollhouse or room box but theirsubmission form must include a parent or guardian or adult groupleader's signature. While entries from neighboring towns are wel-
come, those with connections to Warrensburg are especially en-couraged.Submission forms must be received by November 1. Forms may beobtained at the Museum or at Town Hall, or by phoning the exhibit'scurator, Delbert Chambers, at 623-3514. At least one good photo-graph of the dollhouse or room box should be included with theform. Forms and photos may be sent to the Society, P. O. Box 441,
Warrensburg, NY 12885, delivered to the Museum (see below) orsubmitted on line to [email protected]. Acceptance will bebased on age, uniqueness, quality, furnishings, whether it is hand-made or factory produced, and its historic provenance. Prior tomaking a final decision, members of the Dollhouse Committee willvisit the location to confirm their decision. The Museum will ar-range for pick-up and return of the selected items, if so desired.Once installed at the museum, lenders will be invited to arrange
furniture to their liking, if preferred. All entries will be returnedfollowing the close of the show on January 15.For more information please call the exhibit's curator, DelbertChambers at 623-3514 or the Museum Director, Steve Parisi, at623-2207.

EXHIBIT-exhibition opened recently at the Washington County Historical Society: Stocking the Gen-eral Stores in Washington County, New York, 1900 to 1950. Changes in transportation are documented
by period photographs and artifacts. Goods and services in the stores are discussed by local writerswho also remembered or heard about railway and canal experiences. Shipments made their way up the
Hudson, through the Champlain Canal and north to Lake Champlain or when heading south to Albany,Troy or New York City. Containers had improved to accommodate larger numbers of goods and more
efficient ways to dispense foods in the stores. Options in 1900 now included wooden boxes, cloth bags, crates, barrels, kegs, tin bins, cans and, for home-use, scuttles and baskets. There was no light-weight
cardboard, no corrugated cardboard boxes, few brown paper bags, to say nothing of plastic! Convey-ances varied according to size, weight, and distance which commodities had to travel. Locally, some
general stores would take orders and deliver in a day or two. A wagon or cart with horse could be rentedby an individual or small business from a livery for local travel. Within the county, stagecoaches could
carry travelers and their baggage, smaller parcels, and some mail. By using both the canal and, later, the railroad, general stores provided necessary and desirable goods closer to home. Stocking the
General Stores is open to the public at no charge on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 A.M to4:00 P.M. through November. It is in the Heritage Research Center at the Washington County
