The Art of storyboardingSome tips for a successful training scenario and its implementation in Dokeos AUTHOR.

Think activities
The pitfall of e-learning is passivity: viewing contents is not learning. The designer has to think his course as a series of activities: not as watch a video, but order a sequence of operations from a video. Not as read text, but identify key words in a text, etc.
Piloting is learned with a simulator,
English while speaking, Excel while testing…

Sequencing activities
In three steps: •Print then sequence activities on paper •Modify templates and use them to build a course •Convert to e-learning with Oogie and insert tests and audio comments.
I use these models to train
instructional designers to
scripting!

Use a mascot
The mascot provides no information but it structures navigation and fills the gap left by the absence of a physical trainer. The bubble is a « meta» area to comment on what is happening on the screen or to introduce a distant, critical or humorous viewpoint.
Happy, baby?

In the good position
For you to associate the position with the contents: astonished, reassuring, assertive, leaning, on the departure… you can resize Mister Dokeos. On the other hand, it is advisable to always place it at the same spot. The user likes basic space structuring.
These drawings are based on
photographs of trainers to achieve
maximum authenticity.

Replace the text with image + audio
Replace your bulleted lists with diagrams, mindmaps, tables… and explain them in audio. You can record voice in Audacity, export it in mp3 then import it in Dokeos AUTHOR. As for the diagrams, why not give you drawing paper + pencil? The most direct way to express your ideas visually and to sign your production at the same time.
In the absence of audio, the bubble
character can accommodate your written explanation.

Opt for a graphical universe
Choose a simple style, which will enable you to enrich the galleries, and do not change any more. Always cut out your screen in the same zones, maximum two fonts, a consistent color palette, standard formats: 4:3, 16:9 etc.. Self-help models.
The beauty is the articulation of all parts into
unity.

Logico-visual modelsThese templates accommodate the expression of reasoning: sequence, Venn diagram, table, pyramid…

Describing an image
Directions for use of a device, anatomical description, comments on a diagram, decryption of a numerical proposal, sectional view with accompanying notes, interpreted radiography, language course based on visual aids, the principle of the image is described in the centre of the learning device.
The eyebrows serve to protect the eyes from sun, rain and other drops like sweat, as well as external attacks such as dust or sand.
The iris is a circular membrane and contraction of the anterior surface of the eyeball. It constitutes the visible coloured part of the eye. At its center it is pierced with a hole, the pupil.
The cornea is the transparent front part of the eyeball-shaped
spherical cap and slightly protruding.
The pupil is the hole located in the middle of the iris. It appears black
since most of the light entering inside the eye is absorbed by tissues, particularly the retina.

Blank template
There are an infinite number of possible pedagogical activities. The blank template will accommodate all those that come to mind and which are not included in our catalog.

Reading a text
Attention to the layout. Newspapers are printed in columns, presented in frames, for better readability.
Most of the passive activities… Justifies itself better if it is structured with a
subsequent action by the trainee.

Telling a story
Text ≠ passivity if it is the trainee who writes it.

Comparing documents
Comparison is one of the most elementary forms of understanding. A beginner can see the difference, compare the copy with the original, note the errors in reproduction.

Associating four concepts
A table layout combines the concepts horizontally and vertically. Four concepts enter such an analogy in which A is to B as C is to D.
Bernard-Henri Lévy is to French
philosophy what Rondo Veneziano is to Italian baroque
music.

Interpreting a table
As for a text, it will be necessary to complete a test: click on an image of a table or a question type: When one has A1 and C2, what is the value of D4?

Connecting decisions
Decision tree. Occurs typically in a logical problem, a functional analysis, the preparatory analysis with a strategic meeting.

Prioritizing concepts
Applications: prioritize, rank in order of importance, establishing prerequisites, structuring an organization (organization chart) ... To test by matching or elements of a first set are called for example: In priority, the second level of importance, etc.

by the training department, but
not at the procedures.

Organizing a mental map
Mindmapping tools (Mindmanager, Xmind, Dokeos MIND ...) help you structure your ideas by branches, key words and icons.
Mind maps are to be imported as images.

Thinking in terms of objectives
Wondering what to implement to achieve a result: the logic of action to be undertaken.
I do not want to leave anything to chance. It is necessary that we are able to anticipate the
measures to be taken in order to define a precise
timing of operations!

Matching elements
By removing elements of the first set, we go to a logic of categorization. Can be tested in QUIZ: matching.

deal with applications on the

Understanding a cycle
In biological life as in engineering and business processes, there are cyclical processes being described by milestones, unable to include the aspect of continuous transformation.
How do we know what degree of
granularity should describe the cycle?

Models of contentE-learning requires a specific context. These models accommodate descriptive pages of the following types: presentation of the trainer, diploma or certificate, objectives of the course...

Course Homepage
It is like the “cover of a book”. A beautiful illustrative image in the middle of the page. And in this lower design the relevant information: Author name, version of the document, date, copyright, possible duration of training.

Take note of an instruction
If you have less things to say or information that relates to the organization of the course rather than to its content, a note will emphasize the imperative information.

Proposals for activitiesThe following pages are not models, strictly speaking, but ideas for activities to be organized with the various tools offered by Dokeos. It will be helpful in the thinking stage and script (which can be achieved by printing these slides to release the spirit of technical constraints). Some authors include in their presentation the description of activities. They then replace in Dokeos, the models of activities by the true activities, in order to keep the thread of the script throughout the production.
