It’s That Dreaded Time of the Week – Doggie Bath Time!

Owning a dog is one of the most rewarding experiences any animal lover can have. Many of us will

start out with a puppy and, if we’re lucky enough we see them through their whole lives right into

the twilight years. Dogs bring a great deal of joy to a lot of people simply because they’re such loyal

friends and, anyone who has owned one will know just how individual their personalities are (even if

you do have a favourite breed). The trouble is one personality trait that seems to be in most pets like

this is their attitude towards a bath and dog shampoo!

For some unknown reason these loving four legged friends seem to have a sixth sense when it comes

to running water and many of us have to resort to all sorts of tricks to get them to finally surrender

so they can be washed.

Why it’s Important You Stick with It

There are times when you simply cannot allow those pleading eyes make you give in when it comes

to bath time because you’ve been out for a walk and your dog is, well, just too smelly and covered in

dirt to allow him back into the house.

However, there are also times when you should keep up your weekly bath regime even if your dog

doesn’t seem particularly dirty. It’s at times like this you feel bad about reaching for a bottle of dog

shampoo and it’s all too easy to give in.

This is something you should most definitely not do! You see, there are shampoos on the market

formulated specifically for dogs for a reason. There is a lot going on under that coat you don’t see.

When you take your dog for walks, he’s open to all sorts of little bugs that will get trapped in his fur.

If he is unlucky enough, they can get under the skin and start causing all manner of problems.

How Bathing Your Dog Keeps Him

Healthy

A dog shampoo will make sure that not only is

your furry friend’s coat sleek and shiny, it will

also make sure his skin is kept in good

condition. Of course you will, as a responsible

dog owner, ensure your pet has a flea

treatment as often as recommended but, this

doesn’t deal with all of the issues.

Dry skin can lead to terrible itchy conditions

like eczema or malasezzia dermatitis and this

is where a good bath each week will help. It

will also help keep the little bugs that can get

missed in-between flea treatments at bay.

If Your Dog Really Hates Water

If you’re having real problems with getting

your dog to take a bath, you can get dry

shampoo for dogs which could be the answer. No water, no splashing or howling and definitely no

soggy clothes for you! Just a clean and fresh four legged friend with a healthy coat and skin.

Many dogs do hate a bath (as you will know) but, it’s wise to understand this is an essential part of

their skin care regime. If you’re not sure what type of products to use, just ask your vet.
