ABSTRACT

The purpose of this directory is to provideinformation regarding the availability of specialized middle levelteacher preparation programs. The directory provides information onapproximately 240 colleges and universities, listed alphabetically bystate. For each of these colleges and universities, the directory:(1) lists the degrees offered; (2) indicates whether the middle levelprogram is a major specialization comparable to an elementary orsecondary education major, a program that has been added to anelementary or secondary program to provide dual certification, or aprogram limited to selected courses not leading to a degree orcertification; and (3) gives the name and address of an individual tocontact for additional information. A survey form is appended.(BC)

Directory of Middle Level Teacher Preparation Programs


The major purpose of Directory of Middle Level Teacher Preparation Programs is the provisionof information regarding the availability of specialized middle level teacher preparation programs.Although the numbtp, of such programs is growing, it is often difficult for prospective middle levelteachers and practitioners seeking graduate programs to locate institutions which have establishedthese programs. This directory includes information about the nature of programs provided, the levelsof these programs, and the names and addresses of persons which can be contacted for additionalinformation. Information about these programs is limited to that reported on the survey formscompleted by representatives from each respective institution. National Middle School Association isproviding this directory as a service for middle level educators and no endorsement or lack thereof bythe Association is intended.

Institutions with specialized middle level teacher preparation programs that are not includedin this publication are encouraged to complete Appendix A found at the end of the directory so that theycan be included in the next issue. Institutions listed in the directory should also complete the form ifchanges need to be made in the next issue. The completed form should be sent to:
