• Standard for which the Phillips countersunk flat head screw is manufactured (ex. ISO, DIN, JIS, etc.)

• Material properties and material class requirements for the fastener

• External finish

• GEHC Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) requirements for the given fasteners

This document also describes the part naming scheme to be used when creating or referencing this series of fasteners on GEHC Bills of Materials. For further detail on this part naming scheme and Essential Classification, please reference GEHC document DOC0422574, “GEHC Metric Fastener Naming Scheme (RoHS Compliant).”

5.0 Fastener Part Naming Scheme The purpose of this section is to provide the GEHC standard part naming scheme for the series of countersunk flat head screws defined in this specification. The below section notes the various GEHC part numbers that shall be used and the various options in the GEHC part number for this series of fastener. Each of the fasteners in this series has a unique GEHC part number that shall be called out on GEHC Bills of Materials and this specification shall be attached to each unique part number for this series of countersunk flat head screws. The detailed information on each of the attributes described in Figure 1 is contained in the remainder of this document.

6.0 Fastener Series Definition per JIS B 1111-attached Standards The fastener series described in this specification are Cross Recessed Countersunk Flat Head Machine Screws (Type H). The JIS Standard for Cross Recessed countersunk flat head machine screws, JIS B 1111-attached (JIS B 1111-1974 Type H), shall define ALL parts in this series. Not all sizes given in the JIS Standard are shown in Tables 1 and 2. Please check MyWorkshop to determine if a specific part has already been released, even if its dimensions are not shown. Figure 2 is a representative drawing of a Cross Recessed countersunk flat head screw with key dimensions defined. All dimensions shown are reference dimensions with the JIS Standard defining the fastener detailed geometry. The columns in Table 1 highlighted in WHITE (non=shaded) are the preferred fastener thread sizes to be used in GEHC designs. Table 2 shows the commercially available preferred lengths for each thread size of fastener. Where another recognized Industry Standard is in agreement with all of the JIS dimensional requirements (e.g., ISO compared to JIS), parts may be supplied to the alternate Standard. Note that some Standards, such as DIN, may be identified as “withdrawn” but remain actively supported in the industry. All other requirements for materials, finishes, and options defined explicitly in this Specification must be met accordingly.

7.0 Material/Property Class/Finish Table The below sections define the screw material, screw property class, and external finish. Each of the entries in Table 3 (Material, Finish, etc.) is further defined below in terms of the Industry Standards and physical properties it references in Sections 7.1 and 7.2. The (–) number in front of each row in this table signifies in the GE Physical Identifier, what characteristics define that bolt. This (-) should be added to the part number in accordance with GE document DOC0422574. It should always be added to the part number as a two-digit number (ex. –07 or –22) to enable easier searching in the GE parts database. Table 3: Material/Property Class/Finish Table

finishes listed in the table shall be GEHC RoHS compliant. See Section 9 of this document for requirements on restricted substances.

7.2.1 Zinc Plating on Steel, JIS B 1044 Zinc plating finish plus passivation called out in the above table shall be done in accordance with JIS B 1044, Code A8K WITHOUT the use of hexavalent chromium. The passivation treatment MUST NOT contain hexavalent chromium in order to meet the RoHS requirements in Section 9.

8.0 Detailed Definition of GEHC Part Number Figure 1 of this specification lists the unique physical identifier that shall be assigned to the fasteners defined per this specification. This physical identifier is a combination of coded and descriptive alphanumeric characters. This section defines each attribute of this part number and references common industry specifications to define both the coded, and descriptive characters. For information on the part naming scheme, refer to GEHC document DOC0422574.

8.1 Fastener Series Code The fastener series code is an assigned 4-digit code that is used internally to classify different types of hardware commonly used in GEHC designs. The purpose of this code is to define which Industry Standard is being used for that given part number series. For this specification, cross recessed countersunk flat head machine screw (type H) series of fastener per JIS B 1111-attached (JIS B 1111-1974) has been assigned code number 1110. Refer to GEHC document DOC0422574 for more detailed information.

8.2 Fastener Thread Size Fastener thread size is a descriptive character that designates the thread size for the defined fastener. This references a general-purpose screw thread having a size according to JIS B 0205-3, “ISO General-purpose Metric Screw Threads – Selected Sizes for Screws, Bolts, and Nuts.” The tolerances for actual thread size shall be according to the following JIS Standards:

JIS B 0209-1: “ISO General-purpose Metric Screw Threads – Principles and Basic Data”

JIS B 0209-2: “ISO General-purpose Metric Screw Threads – Limits of Sizes for General Purpose External and Internal Screw Threads – Medium Quality”

For reference, JIS B 0209-2 defines default thread tolerance classes of 6h for internal threads, and 6g for external threads (for all sizes > M1.4). The designation of thread size shall be done by utilizing the convention detailed in JIS B 0205-3, with an example shown below. The only change to this standard convention is an M2.5 screw shall be designated as M2P5. Ex. M6, which is a metric 6mm nominal diameter screw per JIS B 0205-3.

8.3 Fastener Pitch Fastener pitch is a descriptive character that designates the thread pitch for the fastener. This references a screw that has a pitch according to JIS B 0205-3, “ISO General-purpose Metric Screw Threads – Selected Sizes for Screws, Bolts, and Nuts.” The designation of pitch size shall be done by utilizing a convention of “C” for coarse threads and “F” for fine threads per JIS B 0205-3.

8.4 Fastener Length Fastener length is a descriptive character that designates the overall length for the fastener. This character shall correlate to the “L” dimension shown in Figure 2 measured in mm. The character shall be designated in three-digit format to enable easier searching in the GE parts database. Ex. M6C012, is a metric 6mm nominal diameter screw, with a coarse pitch of 1.0mm, and a thread length “L” of 12mm.

8.5 Material/Property Class/Finish Refer to Section 7 for detailed information.

9.0 GEHC RoHS Requirement The complete part must be RoHS compliant per GEHC Document 5240305GSP, “GE Healthcare RoHS Requirements for Suppliers of GEHC Parts and Assemblies,” Level 3.
