The Mission of St. Francis Church is to encounter the love of Christ through
worship, service, and charity. In following the traditions of our patron, St. Francis of Assisi, we dedicate ourselves to providing a welcoming and engaging community of
faith, ministering to the poor and the sick, educating the faithful, and caring for God’s creatures as “The Little Church with the Big Heart.”

Readings and The Holy Gospel
June 14, 2020 Dear Parish Family, The re-opening of our church could not come at a more profound time. As we continue to witness the continued spirit behind the worldwide push for social justice it must be God’s plan to unite us once again to celebrate the divinity of Jesus Christ our Lord. It is not lost on me that the celebration of The Feast of Corpus Christi, the solemnity of the presence of Jesus, is taking place today. And tomorrow will be the first day in nearly three months that you will be able to receive the most Blessed sacrament. Today is a preparation for being able to receive Jesus after so much time apart and a reminder of the power of the Blessed Eucharist. “Do this in remembrance of me.” When we receive Holy Communion we are taking on the awesome responsibility of being more Christ-like. When we receive, it is not the opportunity to pause and reflect to thank Jesus but to indeed have him be part of our life and our actions—to do unto others as we would have done to us. What is the saying? Absence makes the heart grow founder? Perhaps this time away from receiving Jesus has given us renewed faith and hope to be more like Jesus. Maybe it is also God’s plan to have removed so many other worldly preoccupations because of the virus in order that we may focus on our humanity. Yes the news and the sickness has consumed our lives but we have also been free of the distractions of our daily life —sports, entertainment; commuting—to focus on faith, family and each other. As we re-emerge from the pandemic of Covid-19, we are now faced with helping all of our brothers and sisters in Christ to face a more just world. As we rejoin our fellow parishioners in coming back to the pews, let us do so with a commitment to be better Christians and to help each other, to build a stronger community inside and outside the walls of St. Francis through unity and simply to be better people. Not everyone will be ready to return to church because of ongoing concerns about the virus and so we will continue to live stream the liturgy. Starting next Sunday (June 21), however, we will move the time to 9:30 AM. We will follow all protocols issued by the Archdiocese and details about attendance will be posted on the website and social media this week but attendance will be a maximum of 50% of our capacity. In the meantime, we have listed the top priorities in the bulletin. We look forward to seeing you. One with you in prayers, Fr. Chris —
