DO NOW: Tracing an object with the pen tool 1. From the internet download and save the image you want to trace to your computer desktop. 2. To bring the image into your Illustrator file: FILE>PLACE>backspace 3. Lock the layer with the image on it. 4. Create a new layer called “trace” and select the pen tool.

DO NOW: Tracing an object with the pen tool1. From the internet download and save the image you want to trace to your computer desktop.
2. To bring the image into your Illustrator file:FILE>PLACE>backspace
3. Lock the layer with the image on it.
4. Create a new layer called “trace” and select the pen tool.Make sure the fill is none (a slash through it) and the stroke is a bright color. Make the stroke 2-3 points so you can see it.
To begin tracing:
• click around the outside of the object. Do not worry about the inside pieces if it has them. Create those on a separate layer.
• Make sure the first point and the last point connect.
