Questions:
1. What is the difference between factoring and solving by factoring ?
Factoring splits the polynomial into two smaller polynomials. Solving by factoring splits the polynomial, sets the factors equal to 0, and solves for x.
2. What do you notice about the factors and the solutions?
The constants of the factors have the opposite sign to the solutions.
3. If you are given that the x-intercepts are x = -6 and x = 8, what would be the factored form of the original function? What about the standard form?
The factored form would be y=(x+6)(x-8). The standard form would be y=x2-2x-48.
