The Meaning of Hardening Your Heart

Refusing to hearken to God's commands

Showing a stiff neck and a hard, impudent heart

Rendering the heart insensible to the divine voice and admonition

God Hardened Pharaoh’s Heart

Exodus 7:13And he hardened Pharaoh's heart, that he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.

Exodus 8:15But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.

Why Was Pharaoh’s Heart Hardened?

Pharaoh refused to listen and obey God’s command.

• His pride

• His power

• His fame

• His god

The Jews Rebelled the Lord and Moses.

The Jews’ Hearts Were Hardened.

Hebrews 3:7-10

7Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,

 8Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:

 9When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.

 10Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.

Why Were the Jews’ Hearts Hardened?

The Jews refused to believe in the Lord and His works.

• Their god

• Their unbelief

• Their comfort

• Their own way
