  • 1 Performing routine maintenance tasksPurpose

Perform these steps during normal site visits to ensure that the basestation stays in good condition. The Flexi BTS design itself ismaintenance-free and therefore has no specified regular maintenanceintervals.

    Steps

    1. Check the fans and air circulation.

When needed, clean the fans of leaves and debris and free air inletsand outlets of obstructions to maintain proper air circulation andprevent overheating of the BTS. Keep the BTS environment clean ofdust.

    2. Check the connector seals.

Check the connector seals visually. Replace worn or broken seals.

    3. Check the antenna line and transmission cable connectors.

    4. Check the screws.

Check the tightness of the module fixing screws. Replace alldamaged or missing screws.

  • 2 Disconnecting cablesPurpose

Disconnecting cables may be needed when, for example, changingconfigurations, recommissioning or replacing modules.

    Warning

Danger of eye damage caused by an invisible laser beam. Theoptical STM-1 transmission sub-module (FTOA) has no automaticlaser shutdown (ALS) feature. Make sure that the laser is switchedoff before removing the cable.

    Caution

Optical fibre cables are fragile. Be careful when disconnecting anycables.

    Steps

    1. Remove any cable ties.

    2. Detach the cable connector seal from the module mechanics.

Grip the connector seal by the stiffened end of the seal (the endconnected to the connector) as shown in the following figure.

  • 3 Replacing module fans3.1 Replacing module fans from the back

    Purpose

If a module fan fails, it must be replaced with a new one. Replacing the fanfrom the back of the module requires a back access and the minimum 200mm maintenance space behind the BTS. If there is not enough space forreplacing the fans from the back, the fans can also be replaced from thefront. See Replacing module fans from the front for more detailedinstructions.

    Before you start

    Warning

Risk of personal injury. Do not touch the fans.

    Caution

The modules may be damaged if operated for a long time in the upperambient temperature range. Replace a faulty unit as soon as possible.

  • 8 Replacing Flexi System External AlarmModule (FSEB)

    Purpose

If a module fails and you have carried out troubleshooting, replace themodule with a new one.

When replacing the Flexi System External Alarm Module (FSEB), somealarms may be seen (depending on user-defined settings). The alarms willbe cancelled once you have replaced the module.

    Steps

    1. Connect the ESD wrist strap.

    2. Disconnect the cables on the module.

    3. Loosen the screws on the module.

    4. Pull out the module.

    5. Install the new module.

    6. Check that jumper X1103 is set to WCDMA.

    7. Connect the cables.

  • 9 HW replacement/upgradeLicence files are tied to certain target identifiers of network elements.Broken HW may have an impact on the licence files depending on whetherthe unit stores the licence files or the target identifier of the networkelement:

. If a unit (for instance, RF Module) that does not store the licence filesand does not contain the target identifier of the network element isswapped, there is no impact on the licences.

. If a unit that stores the licence files is swapped, copies of the oldlicence files must be redistributed to the network element.

. If a unit that contains the target identifier of the network element isswapped, new licence files must be created and distributed to thenetwork element. The old licences are not needed anymore and canbe released back to the pool by using the pool substitute process.Licence pools have to be always available so that new licences filescan be delivered to the NE immediately when HW has beenreplaced.

    Pool substitute process

Pool substitute process releases the licence files that were tied to a brokenTarget Identifier back to the pool for further usage.

See the following steps if System Module is broken. Changing atransmission sub-module does not affect licensing.

The pool substitute process includes the following steps:

    1. A Pool substitute request file including a reason code is generatedby using the NetActTM Network Licence Manager application.

    2. Substitute request file is imported to the Nokia Licence Generator.

    3. Pool Substitute Permission File is created with the Nokia LicenceGenerator.

    HW replacement/upgrade

  • 4. Pool Substitute Permission File is imported to the NetActTM Clusterof the broken HW.

    5. Licences related to the broken HW are released.

The same substitute processes are also applied in case of a typing error intarget identifier information in NetActTM (that is, a wrong target for thelicence is selected). The broken HW and error cases are separated byreason codes in the NetActTM Network Licence Manager application aswell as in the files that are generated in the NetActTM Regional Cluster anddelivered to LG.
