How It All Began

Dr. Moopen hails from Kerala. He was born in Kalpakancherry, a small town in Malappuram district, one of the backwards areas in “God’s Own Country”, as the state of Kerala is often referred to. Brought in Calicut, where he did schooling from, he completed his MBBS & MD from the same place before moving to New Delhi to attain a diploma in chest diseases.

Studies completed, the young doctor returned to teach at the Calicut Medical College where he was employed for five years. Fate came calling soon when Dr. Moopen decided to visit his friend and doctor colleague who was running a clinic in Ajman.“In the eighties, Ajman was a sleepy town. My friend thought it was better for a post graduate doctor to seek opportunities in the more developed and cosmopolitan emirate of Dubai. I strongly believe that I was pushed to Dubai by the Hand of God Almighty who controls all our destinies.”

Dr. Moopen embarked on his healthcare journey with the first clinic in 1987 in Bur Dubai, which was the hub of the flagship of the Moopen group despite the many stellar medical centers that have been added along the way. Seeing 100 to 125 patients a day, the workaholic doctor became a known and well referred name among Dubai residents. As his fame spread, the clinic flourished, setting the ball rolling for more such facilities across Dubai, followed by pharmacies.

DM (Dr. Moopen’s) Healthcare currently operates in the UAE, Qatar, Oman, and India. They are also setting up medical centers along with pharmacies in Dubai which are at different stages of completion. The first hospital of the group in Dubai was the Al Rafa Hospital – this hospital dealt with maternity and surgical care- while the second one under the Medcare brand – a speciality luxury hospital in Jumeirah.
