Here are a few easy gardening tips for your greens that would help them withstand the current dry weather. • Water your plants and lawns between 10pm and 6am. This helps avoid evapo-transpiration and gives the plants a good supply of water to face the heat of the day. • Use anti-dessicants and soil additives to preserve and lock moisture in leaves and the soil. This will help avoid water loss to a great extent. • Install shades and canopies to shield heat-sensitive plants from direct sunlight.

The power of recycling Recycling is a lot like exercising. We all know we should do it, but not all of us do it as often as we should and some don’t do it at all. But the good news is that it is never not too late to start recycling.

Here are a few reasons on how this practice makes you an eco-champion. • It cuts back on global warming: Recycling paper saves trees. For each tonne of paper recycled, 17 trees are saved.

• It makes us more energy-efficient: It often takes a great deal more energy to create something from scratch than to recycle it. For example, it takes twice as much energy to burn plastic as to recycle it.

• It reduces air pollution: Many factories that produce plastics, metals, and paper products release toxins into the air. Recycle these materials, and there will be a lesser need for companies to manufacture new materials, thus controlling the greenhouse-gas emissions into our atmosphere.

• You can make a difference: Your small act of recycling can make a big difference. Step over to the recycling station installed in your community basement area and follow the instructions to dispose of your household waste accordingly.

Improve the air quality at home A well maintained air conditioning unit will not only run more efficiently and longer, but will consume less energy and reduce your bills!

Here are four easy AC maintenance tips that will help you get better cooling:

• Clean the fresh air mesh at least once every month to prevent dust from accumulating and ensure free air circulation.

• Clean the filters of your air conditioning units at least once every three months to prevent any blockages that may obstruct air flow and reduce cooling performance.

• Never operate your air conditioning units without filters in place, as it will result in an accumulation of dust on the cooling coil and it will also require the removal of the entire air conditioning unit from the ceiling for cleaning.

• For best energy efficiency, it is recommended to set your AC temperature at 24 degrees Celsius.

• It is always recommended to get a professional AC maintenance contract in place to ensure the right planned preventive maintenance are carried out periodically.

A city-wide campaign, initiated by Dubai Municipality on abandoned and unclean vehicles has been launched. Emaar Community Management, along with Dubai Municipality are carrying out inspections and educating residents on keeping their surroundings clean. Under the motto ‘Clean Vehicle, Sustainable City’, the following actions are being carried out. • Vehicles that are identified as abandoned or dirty will be issued a violation notice, giving the owner a period of 15 days to clean the vehicle.

• If no further action is taken, the vehicle will then be towed away to the Dubai Municipality scrapyard.

• If at this stage, the owner does not contact Dubai Municipality to settle the related fine, the vehicle will then be sold by auction.

This comes as a reminder to all vehicle owners regarding the general upkeep and cleanliness of their vehicles, in a drive to keep the city, community and the neighborhood in pristine condition.

For more information or suggestions, you may contact Dubai Municipality on 800 900.

What’s happening in your community

In line with the directives set by the Department of Protective System (DPS) authority to upgrade the CCTV systems in residential buildings, additional cameras are being installed to enhance the safety and security of residents. The procurement process has been completed and installation of additional cameras is ongoing. This project is expected to be completed by 4th quarter of 2017.

Security is a priority

To restore its original look and to give the community a fresh and lively makeover, the walls, ceiling and stair cases in the community have been repainted. Phase 1 of the project was completed in Q2. We are now in the process of painting the remaining areas. The entire project is expected to be completed by October 2017.

Fresh coat

Overtime, the exit doors at level 1 and 2 got damaged due to heavy usage by people entering and exiting the building, reflecting a scruffy image of the community. The new doors are more durable and also improves the overall esthetics of the building.

New doors to get in!

The table tennis facility is quite popular amongst the residents of the community. Due to high usage, and general wear and tear over time, the facility was in need of an upgrade. A new table has been procured and we hope residents continue to enjoy the facilities.
