Positive Coaching Alliance

• Background: Too many instances of parents, coaches, players losing sight of core values and benefits of Youth sports and getting caught up in destructive, counter-productive behaviors

• Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) is a national nonprofit organization committed to providing all youth and high school athletes a positive, character-building youth sports experience. http://positivecoach.org

• Will provide tools and training programs for coaches, parents and players designed to improve team and individual athletic performance while also helping to create an environment in which youth athletes take life lessons from sports

• Not just “sportsmanship” PCA promotes a Double-Goal program:

• winning

• teaching life lessons through sports

• Uniforms removed from league fees and made a team responsibility

• Team Sponsorships to be 100% to fund team uniforms, equipment, etc...

• BUT...League must have league sponsorships to cover improvement projects

Youth Baseball Presentations

• Organization Goal: Serve NE Dallas youth with quality baseball and softball programs across spectrum of beginning to competitive play

• Align organization goal with established programs that can help deliver on it

• Where are we today?

• We serve beginners at the youngest age groups (TBall, CP) pretty well

• We serve the recreational player starting to become competitive in the middle age groups (MKP, Minors) pretty well

• We serve the recreational player in the older age groups (Majors, Juniors) pretty well

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

Page 22: DLL 2013 Planning Meeting

Where can we improve?

• Provide a deeper program of training and games for kids wanting more than a recreational level of play

• Provide a higher level game for older kids (i.e. 50-70 program with full rules)

• Provide clear path for kids to progress from beginner player to competitive player and play like-skilled players

• Provide opportunity for kids/teams to play “outside the local league”. Currently, it’s difficult to take teams and play outside of the Little League context
