Wedding traditions vary worldwide depending on culture, religion, social status, and country. In Jeddah, weddings usually begin from 11 pm, but the bride does not appear before midnight (although stated otherwise on the invitations). After the bride appears with her groom, they cut the cake and take pictures, then the groom leaves and the bride leaves shortly after him. The guests then have dinner and begin to make their way to the exit, therefore marking the end of a typicalwedding in Jeddah. Although weddings do not last more than approximately two hours, people spend tremendous amounts of money for such a short period of time, and the bride does not even

Simpler Weddingsspend time with her guests for more than halfan hour!

A wedding is simply defined as a ceremony in which two people are united. It is meant to be a beautiful occasion that joins two individuals together for a lifetime. The bride and groom should be able to spend time with their guests; after all, it is their night. People should remember and keep in mind that a wedding is a ceremony; what they should focus on, and what really matters, is the marriage. Consider investing more time and money on the actual marriage rather than spending everything on one night.

Late ZaffaThumbs Down to...

Thumbs Up to...Early Weddings

For way too many generations we have gotten used to the idea of attending awedding that is so unbelievably late that we end up going home by sunrise! However things are finally starting to turn around, weddings are becoming earlierand earlier and there are even weddings being held in the afternoon. Guests arefinding this particularly convenient as they end their evening at a decent hour andleave with satisfied smiles on their faces. We hope this not only continues but alsobecomes the new norm.

Despite the new generation trying to introduce the idea of early weddings into oursociety, some still choose to plan their nights extremely late. Guests end up waitingall night for the bride and groom to walk down the aisle so they can go home andget some sleep. Some even choose to skip dinner as the night reaches along thehours of 3 and 4 am. This ridiculous notion of a wedding must be changed for goodas the guests end up getting irritated and the bride doesn’t get to enjoy much of herlong planned and awaited night.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR A SAUDI WEDDING

Weddings are a joyful occasion all over the world; people celebrate them in different ways and practice their own rituals; however at the end of the day it all comes down to the bride and the groom, and the fact that it is their special day.

Every country has its own traditions and beliefs when it comes to weddings. In India, for example, wedding celebrations last for a couple of days. In Jamaica, the entire village celebrates wedding ceremonies together, and in Norway the wedding cake is made of bread and cheese! These are only a few examples of wedding traditions and rituals that amaze us. Here in Saudi it is no different; we have are own traditions and rituals that we celebrate with and are happy to have. If you are a newcomer, and have been invited to your first Saudi wedding, keep reading and find out about our wedding traditions just to be prepared.

You receive your wedding invitation about three weeks before the wedding, and you get excited about attending and experiencing a new culture; however, a lot of you could have many questions regarding what to wear, when to go, should you get the lovely couple a gift or is it not customary to do so here in Saudi? Now, let’s get you prepared.

Settling In

Useful Information

DESTINATION RIYADH24

INVITATIONS: To begin with, the invitations are usually personalized for each guest and you will find a small entrance card to show at the door before you enter the wedding hall. Of course if the wedding is less formal, where the family has the ceremony at a private property like the family home, no entry card would be needed.

WHAT TO WEAR? Now comes the bigger question: what to wear! Should you be conservative, simple, or go over the top when it comes to your outfit? Well that depends on the wedding itself; usually weddings in Saudi are very fancy and people try to be as glamorous as they possibly can, so your best and safest choice would be to wear your favorite formal dress and beautify your neck, ears and hands with jewelry. The dress you wear also depends on the timing and location of the wedding. If it is an afternoon wedding, your best option would be a simple classy dress and light makeup. As for the location, if the wedding is taking place in one of the fancy wedding halls then imagine yourself going to the Oscars. If the wedding is for both men and women, and is to take place at a private home, then your dress should be a bit more on the conservative side, or depending on the family and their own traditions.

DESTINATION RIYADH24 DESTINATION JEDDAH24

Page 27: DJ Issue 51

DESTINATION JEDDAH 25

HAIR AND MAKEUP: Ladies usually get their hair and makeup done at a salon in order to look their best. The choice is yours; just keep in mind to schedule an appointment at least one week ahead of time especially if the wedding is during wedding season. When you schedule your appointment, make sure it is sometime in the afternoon because it tends to get crowded at the salon after 6 pm. Many makeup artists here tend to get carried away, maybe thinking “the more the merrier,” so an important tip for you is to not feel shy to tell the makeup artist that you want fewer colors on your face!

GIFTS: After deciding on the outfit there comes the matter of the gift. Commonly in other countries it is customary and in fact expected to buy the newlyweds a gift and present it to them on their wedding day, but in Saudi that is not a necessity. At least not on their wedding day; usually if you are close enough to the bride you will be invited to her bridal shower, in which close friends and family give their gifts, or you can send them a gift a week or so before the wedding. However it is not customary to bring a gift to the wedding ceremony.

TIMING: A typical wedding in Jeddah supposedly begins at around 10 pm (according to the timing stated on the invitation), but guests do not arrive before 11 or midnight, and the bride does not make an appearance before 1 am. As soon as the bride and groom make their appearance, dinner is served and the wedding is more or less over. Nowadays, the wedding scene began to change in terms of timing; afternoon and early evening weddings have become a trend, and we hope it is a long-lasting one!

DESTINATION JEDDAH 25

Page 28: DJ Issue 51

DESTINATION JEDDAH26

DURING THE WEDDING: As expected, upon your arrival at any wedding, you walk around, meet and greet friends and acquaintances. There should be around an hour or so before the bride walks down the aisle; during that hour music will be playing non-stop, guests can dance, snack on the chocolates and pastries provided on each table, and socialize. When the bride and groom walk down the aisle, women who cover may wear their abayas, and watch the beautiful ceremony unfold. After the bride and groom walk down the aisle, they take pictures with family and friends, cut the cake, and enjoy the rest of the night celebrating their wedding.

TIPS!1. You may kiss the bride after she walks down the aisle, but NOT the groom!

2. To avoid the crowd of women getting their abayas before the groom appears, it would be convenient to bring a scarf or shawl with you and keep it with you.

3. When you are offered snacks on a tray by waitresses at the wedding, it is NOT offensive to say no.

4. Take a nap on the day of the wedding, trust us you will thank us for it.

So look your best and enjoy the experience of a Saudi wedding!

With an alarming rise in divorce and mutual separations, relationships seem to have become prone to disintegration and falling apart. We believe more in discarding than

repairing. Destination Jeddah caught up with Dr. Nazly Nasim Daula in a tête-à-tête to get a little insight on common relationship issues and simple ways to avert them.

By Almas Khot

Firstly I would like our readers to know, what are the general issues, in your experience, that you see our new age couples facing in their relationships? The most common issue I see in couples are personality conflicts, as there are personality traits that can doom a marriage to failure. The second most common issue is expectations! Couples enter into marriage with certain expectations, most of the time these expectations are not met, and the relationship turns out to be the opposite of what they had ever expected; this mismatch leads to disappointment and other issues.

Are there any other common sources of marital stress and conflicts? Yes, there are many other sources that lead to stress and conflicts between couples, some of them being money problems or financial strain, sex, household responsibilities, irritating habits of one another, family pressure from in-laws, siblings or step children which can all create conflicts within a marriage.

In your opinion, what does today’s generation lack which elevates such issues? The lack of proper formal education at school and home about responsibilities and duties of the spouses, bride or groom. Plus they lack patience immensely, which wasn’t the case in previous generations. Patience is key to a more peaceful marriage, then as compared to now.

Do you believe that these days we mostly adopt a throw-away mentality? We discard what doesn’t work, instead of trying to fix it. Unfortunately yes, I believe this is mainly the issue, especially in couples coming from broken families or who themselves have witnessed many fights and arguments between their own families. Couples who have witnessed such psychological strain and domestic violence often tend to have a very negative attitude towards marriage and relationships, generally speaking.

What is the key to maintaining a healthy relationship? I strongly believe in: respect, trust, care, and communication.

Do you feel couples these days don’t communicate as much? Yes, they have become extremely self-centered and selfish. Good communication is vital to a healthy relationship.

Can you list some simple exercises to overcome minor issues arising between couples? I firmly advise couples to have regular meetings in public places, talk about their issues with people who understand them, and discuss their issues, instead of suppressing their feelings and frustrations to the levelof explosion.

Do you feel career and personal growth have superseded personal relationships these days? Yes, unfortunately it has to a high extent, especially amongst the young coupl , who are very involved in their work and do not have enough quality time to spend with their spouse and family.

Between juggling two full time jobs as a medical counselor and a homemaker, what is your advice to strike a balance between work and home? For me, my family comes first. Even before my work and career, you should not overdo work, ever! I personally have cut down my working hours in to half after the birth of my little one, Yusof who is now 3 years of age. There is nothing bigger than the joy of parenting and I absolutely want to cherish every moment of it, and this is my advice to every couple. Live the moments, prioritize family and ties and work towards building healthy and beautiful bonds with one another. Do you feel there is still a certain level of social stigma attached to seeking help through counselors even today or has the scenario changed for good? Yes, unfortunately there is a certain level of perceived stigma in seeking professional help. Especially husbands - they do not want to engage in therapy or counseling.

Doctor, your last words for a healthy mind and life? Be simple, sleep well , don’t hold grudges , exercise regularly , and be close to God and you will be able to take each day as it comes with a big smile!

What is a relationship without some noise and clank of healthy tiffs? Beat the blues, open horizons to newer avenues, deal with realities of what lacks within and take it with a pinch of salt and a dash of love!

From morning weddings to outdoor photoshoots, Yamani adds unconventional touches to the overall experience, leaving the bride, groom, and guests remarkably delighted.

For the designing process, Yamani takes the practical approach: meeting the bride, understanding her preferences, getting an idea about the dress, knowing the colors that reflect her personality – and from there he designs a Kosha. After the Kosha is decided, he rolls out the theme onto all the other aspects. His practicality is even apparent in his working style; he can plan a fabulously creative wedding within a timeframe of two months and starting with a relatively fair budget.

Evolve’s portfolio of international events includes Egypt, Kuwait, UAE, Jordan, and Lebanon. One of the key values upheld at Evolve is to deal with the client as family not as a business; this ethos is translated throughout the entire process. Understanding the bridal psyche is one of the strengths at Evolve, which facilitates the experience. Iman Al Hamoud derives the wedding themes not only from the bride’s character, but also from the culture and background of both the bride and groom; this gives the event a strong sense of identity.

With a keen eye for detail and a modern expression of floral design, she created a deep harmony of color and contrast.

Recently a renowned Saudi writer Hussein Shobokshi wrote in his opinion piece, “I was brought up to completely believe that the words ‘Arts and Saudi’ simply cannot and will not and must not belong in the same sentence.” However, things are changing – changing for the better. How? Well, recently Jeddah witnessed the first ever officially organized art week called ‘JAW’ which in Tunisian Arabic dialect means ‘Fun’ which also stands for Jeddah Art Week, explained Lina Lazaar Jameel, JAW’s founder and Sotheby’s international contemporary art specialist.

JAWThe week-long art event buzzed with several art and cultural activities such as art exhibitions of Saudi and Arab artists from many international auction houses, grand opening of an international art gallery, showcasing the talent of Saudi visual art, mentoring sessions, art symposiums and designs and much more.

Artists from around the Kingdom gathered at Theatro Mall to witness the inauguration of the Jeddah Arabian Wings Haii Art Festival, part of JAW’s many events and exhibitions. The Art Festival showcased the innovative contemporary artwork of 26 Saudi artists including Waleed Kurdi, and exhibited live art shows.

EVENT ONE:The groundbreaking JAW was inaugurated with a press call in the morning, in which Jameel briefed the press regarding the art and cultural activities she planned for the JAW under the Sotheby’s umbrella. Spokespersons from Athr Gallery, Ayyam Gallery, Edge of Arabia, Al Madad Foundation and Dar Al Hekma also graced the event with their presence. The inauguration took place at Al Furusiya Marina and Yacht Club, Park Hyatt.

EVENT TWO:Athr Gallery organized “Mostly Visible” art exhibition, which was created by Ashraf Fayadh. Ahmed Mater, Sarah Abu Abdullah, Mahmoud Naseem, Nora Alissa were also participants in this event, in addition to 25 artists from different generations, provinces, and backgrounds within the Kingdom. Their artwork is aimed at portraying real life in the Kingdom through arts and photography.

EVENT THREE: Dar Al Hekma College for girls held a three-day design symposium named “Identity” as a part of JAW. The theme was inspired by the uniqueness and multiplicity of identity, how it defines and labels individuals and how it is universally viewed from different perspectives and disciplines. Participants were twenty-one well-known international speakers, out of which six were Saudis, from the fields of Interior Design, Architecture, Visual Communication, and Fashion.

EVENT FOUR: In order to represent someone from the Saudi visual arts scene, JAW organizers picked Ahd Kamel, a Saudi actress and filmmaker, to speak on the issues linked with this particular field in the Kingdom. Kamel is the first Saudi to have had her work showcased in Berlin International Film Festival. Her second movie “Sanctity” was screened in Berlin last year.

EVENT SEVEN:JAW ended with the opening of Ayyam Gallery in Jeddah, which already has existing branches in Damascus Beirut, Dubai and London. Ayyam Gallery International is owned by Khaled Samawi, and the event took place at Ayyam Gallery in Bougainville Center. Jeddah Art Week ended on a high note leaving Jeddah in a spotlight for many international organizations to invest in. Edward Gibbs, chairman for Middle East and India for Sotheby’s speaking to DJ said, “If things continue in a positive way, Jeddah can be one big thing in the Middle East within the next ten years. We focused on Jeddah for an art week knowing its love for art. The city has been exposed to art for long; for example Corniche and other monuments throughout the city is evidence to it. We hope we will be able to push boundaries through arts. There is great thirst for arts and cultural activities in Jeddah and the city has received this event well.”

EVENT FIVE: “Pen to Paper” was held at Athr Gallery. Aya Haider, Co-Creator and director of Al Madad Foundation, explained that artwork by artists like Moataz Naser, Yara El Sherbini, Larissa Sansour, Giovanni Ozzala and others at the event have one common theme: promoting education. Athr Gallery has always been known to host auctions for a cause; Al Madad is also the beneficiary NGO working for the education of disadvantaged Lebanese, Palestinian, and Syrian children taking refuge in Lebanese camps.

Dress up for a wedding...

Fashion &Shopping

Pay attention to the invitation; if it indicates anything like formal dress, black tie or cocktail.

It all depends on the location; if it is an outdoor wedding you go simple with the right shoes (wedges if it’s grass and flats if it’s on sand), if it’s a formal ballroom then go with dressy shoes.

Never ever ever ever wear white to a wedding or try to outshine the bride!

Avoid colors that are too loud and patterns that are too wild. Either one of these things will make you stand out in a bad way.

Weather is a key factor that determines what you are going to wear. You should choose clothing that’s appropriate to the season in order to be comfortable.

Less is more; simple make up and a simple hairdo!

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue; your shoes can be all of the above!

Being a shoe addict, choosing my wedding shoes were the most important thing to me.

I was torn between a pair of Manolos and Louboutins but my heart spoke to a limited edition Le Silla out of 50 pairs in the world (my lucky number was 33). Inspired by fairy tales, those shoes looked like Cinderellas’ so what you need to do is let your heart (and feet) speak to your shoes!

UNFORGETTABLE Wedding GiveawaysBy Halah Gandeel

10You’re almost done with your wedding to-do list, everything is in place and going according to plan. You are ready to share your dream day with your beloved family and friends. All that’s left now is to giveaway something your guest will remember your night by. Here are a few ideas you might want to consider.

2 TAKE AWAY FLOWERSThe music has stopped, and guests are starting to leave. Your long planned wedding night might be over but your flowers that you worked so hard to choose and arrange are still very fresh. Therefore, it might be a good idea to turn your flower centerpieces into giveaways, by arranging them in small separate vases that guests can pick up from the table at the end of the night.

1 THE GIFT OF FLAVORFor a gift with so much flavor that your guests will surly enjoy, create your own special mix of herbed olive oil. All you need to do is gather fresh herbs of your choice, wash them and let them dry thoroughly. Then put a few of those leaves inside each giveaway bottle and pour the olive oil into the mix. The trick is to prepare this two weeks in advance so that it will be infused with plenty of flavor in time for your big day.

Page 65: DJ Issue 51

4 THE GIFT OF SOUNDMix your own favorite love songs as a couple and create a playlist on iTunes. All you need to do is burn the CDs. Then you can buy plain white CD covers from your nearest stationary. Add your personal touch by designing a label with your names on it and sticking it on the cover. A gift your guests can replay over and over again.

5 SWEET HONEYBuy your favorite honey from your local grocery store, buy small jars and fill them with that sweet flavor. Personalize it by monograming pieces of fabric with your initials and using that as a cover, tie it with a colorful ribbon and you are good to go.

3 A POP OF CAKEWe all know that the wedding cake you so carefully selected most probably will end up being sent to your own families. Why not share the love with little balls of cake, covered in frosting, decorative glitter, sprinkles with endless of packaging options to choose from. Let your imagination go wild and consider creating them in little miniatures of brides and grooms or maybe even your themed flowers. You can order these pops of heaven from almost any cake shop in your town.

7 THE WHITE MACARON Let’s face it, Macaron’s popularity is booming like crazy these days and everyone wants in on a piece of these delicious savories. So why not give your guests a sweet treat by sending them off with little bags of white macarons. You can add your individual touch by sticking your personalized label to mark your wedding day event.

Pink Camel Location: Abdula Maqsoud khojah St. Tel: +966-2-698 2175 Email: [email protected]: www.pink-camel.com

8 CANDY BARS OF CHILDHOODDon’t want to display your childhood photos in a slideshow? You can still do that but with a fresh new twist! Purchase some of your most beloved chocolate bars, remove their wrappings and instead wrap them with your own personal photos of both you and your groom's childhoods that you can print using your own printer at home. This way you can share your most cherished moments and give your guests a chocolate delight at the same time.

6 THE COOKIE BUFFET Your friends have been complimenting you on your cookies for years. It’s time to share that with many more people. Bake a few of your favorite flavors and be as creative as you like. Then fill some serving jars and add them to the buffet with take away bags so your guests can pick and mix their bag, then seal it with a customized label.

3 MINT TO BEYour guests have just finished their lavish dinner and now they are digging for a mint in order to freshen up and get back on that dance floor. Surprise them by printing small messages on each mint and go the extra mile by packing them in decorative jars that complements your theme for them to take home and display.

8 BLOOMING LOVEGive your guests a gift that keeps growing by showering them with seed-filled packages that they can grow and enjoy at home. There are an infinite variety of seeds that you can pick from all over the Internet, or even ask your local florist if you can purchase some! Finish off your packaged seeds with a label of your names and date of your wedding; a simple planting instruction in the back will also be greatly appreciated.

LENOTREThe French brand here in Saudi has been around for a long time and has always been the place to head to for Jeddahwis looking for the perfect dessert, whether cake or French éclair. With their branch on Tahlia Street complete with a café, French cuisine has become similarly showcased in savory flavors as well as sweet. Renowned worldwide for their excellence in French cuisine, it is second nature for this one to excel at the most famous of French desserts. Engineered by two French-trained chefs, these macarons are a delight to bite into, from the fluffy, crispy macaron cookie outside to the filling that varies from soft to slightly chewy.

YOU’VE GOT TO TRYChocolate, Pistachio, Passion fruit. All delicious!

MARCHOF THE

From traditional desserts to cupcakes to macarons, the dessert craze of Jeddahwis has only gotten more intense over the years, and who can blame them, especially with macarons? This exotic little cookie’n’cream hailing from France is no longer so exotic, especially here in infamously sweet-toothed Jeddah. Deceptively simple, macarons are made of two almond-paste cookies held together with cream. Crispy, creamy, light and frothy all at once, they’re the ultimate for any dessert lover – if done right, and they’re not easy to do right! Here is our roundup of some of the best macaron places in Jeddah: the people doing it right.

By Maryam Al-Dabbagh

BON BONAs is customary, the Leylaty patisserie/chocolatier is one of our top choices for all things sweet. Their macarons explode with taste in your mouth, with exquisitely crafted shells and cream laden with flavor. Importing their ingredients from abroad pays off here, with their inclusion of the Asian exotic fruit Lychee, which is extremely sweet and succulent, in the middle of one of their creations, and flavors like a Piña Colada macaron, complete with coconut cream and pineapple!

YOU’VE GOT TO TRYVanilla macarons made with real vanilla bean; their macarons with raspberry are spectacular, with the soft fruits giving a burst of juicy sweetness in the middle of the rosewater flavor. A real winner bursting of juicy sweetness in the middle of the rosewater flavor.

SWEET & SAVORYSweet & Savory, a bakery that prides itself on catering to finicky eaters with immaculate taste, is another of our Saudi success stories. It started as a home-based catering business that, with the advent of ardent fans of its unique ideas (‘savory cupcakes’, like pizza!), has now expanded into a beloved bakery that allows you to enjoy sweetness, and still indulge in the savory.

YOU’VE GOT TO TRYTheir incredible variety of macaron flavors in delicate, gorgeous colors. Too many to list here, but one of our favorites was the coconut coated with coconut flakes, with an indulgent chocolate center.

PAULThis upscale authentic French bakery-café is another French-based brand here in Jeddah, fully family-owned and built on the foundations of time-honored production methods passed down through five generations: a commitment shared in more than 20 countries today. They are most famous for their dedication to the production of genuine French bread, baked fresh every single day in their ovens. Baguette-lovers, look no further! But that’s another story. We’re here for another French classic today, the macarons, and nowhere does the 120 years of experience show more than in the way they craft this perfect dessert in their classic mini macarons.

YOU’VE GOT TO TRYWith a twelve-pack mix of banana, raspberry, lemon, and other fruity flavors, Paul provides some of the best fruit-based flavors we have tried.

PINK CAMELOur first of home-grown success stories, this pastry boutique is the latest – some would say the greatest – macaron place in Jeddah, and this one has the pedigree to prove it. Hailing with classical French training from some of the world’s greatest culinary institutions comes Saudi founder, owner, and head chef Mayada Badr, the epitome of hands-on work and personal selection. Her impeccable taste is manifest in every aspect of the boutique-like shop, from the items on display to the macarons themselves. She is on-call every single day to bake the macarons by hand, and her dedication is clear in every last bite of her delectable treats, authentic to the T.Watch out, La Duree of Paris – Pink Camel has come to Jeddah!

YOU’VE GOT TO TRYThe salty caramel macaron is what spurred Mayada’s fascination with this wonderful treat, and her version lives up to it. Another must-try for all chocolate fans is the Nutella Macaron. ‘Speculoos’ is a French biscuit with a unique flavor, and it gets its own macaron here!

FAB SWEETSFab Sweets is yet another home-grown success story: Saudi owner and founder Bushra Al-Ambari started out baking from home before founding one of the most popular places for sweet things of all kinds here in Jeddah. Like many self-made business people, she is passionate about getting it right. As a mother, for example, her concern about health prompts her to make better choices about the amount of sugar in all her wonderful desserts. Her macarons with authentic ingredients have become a force to be reckoned with, all on their own. What is unique about these macarons is their moistness; it’s almost like biting into a cake pop, but with that wonderful macaron eggshell outside.

YOU’VE GOT TO TRYRed Velvet is their most popular flavor; lavender is not just a perfume anymore; and her chocolate macaron is woefully decadent.

Your honeymoon marks the beginning of your marriage; rather than spending it city hopping, consider going on a romantic cruise in which you can enjoy all the benefits of a land-based honeymoon in addition to many more. The popularity and demand for honeymoon cruises is on the rise; in fact, cruises have a higher percentage of satisfied customers than all other vacation experiences. Going on a cruise for your honeymoon is guaranteed to make this time of your life even more special.

There is nothing more romantic than sailing away into the sunset, watching the sunrise, enjoy dining on a balcony that overlooks the ocean, among other special benefits that come with the honeymoon package. In addition to romance, with honeymoon cruises you can buy accommodation, entertainment, fine dining, and fun, with just one affordable price. Cruises offer both daytime and nighttime entertainment options, and are filled with a variety of dining choices to suit all tastes, and activities to ensure the couple has a memorable honeymoon. Statistics reveal that the two most popular cruise destinations are the Mediterranean and Caribbean. However, other options include the Greek Isles, Northern Europe, Alaska, and Asia. Go on a memorable honeymoon cruise, and visit plenty of exotic destinations rather than just a couple.

A NEW VISION IN DENTISTRY

Many people of both genders, adults and children, fear dentists. This fear and anxiety could be caused by childhood experiences or situations in which pain was inflicted unintentionally, therefore implanting the sense of fear. La Perle Dental Spa was created by Doctors Suzan Banjar and Anas Shabra, around behavior modification techniques, from their name to the Spa interior. Their aim is to create a stress-free environment in order to ensure ultimate comfort and satisfaction for their patients.

Upon entering La Perle, and throughout the whole spa, you will inhale the calming scent of lavender, and will be seated on comfortable purple couches. You will notice the waiting area is furnished with curved or rounded edges, which has been psychologically proven to help people relax, unwind, and feel calm. Through aromatherapy and carefully chosen interior design, La Perle will give you the sense that you are entering a spa rather than a clinic, hence their name.

Part of their objectives as a dentistry team is to ensure that each staff member will add value to the spa with their high qualifications. Their facilities are

impressive; they include the latest dental technology carefully designed to comply with the psychological effects of the spa. Patients are seated in brightly lit rooms, and have the option to watch a movie or play a video game on a TV hung on the ceiling above them, while the doctor proceeds with treatments. Before or after treatments, patients can unwind, get a massage and read a magazine in a private room.

Now that the wedding season is upon us, La Perle guarantees to provide brides with a beautiful Hollywood smile makeover within the same setting, using highly advanced dental technology equipment such as the CAD/CAM, which is one of the leading computerized dental restoration units. Within the same day, the bride can relax and enjoy a massage while her crown is being perfected and her smile is brightened.

La Perle have indeed successfully created a stress-free spa environment that positively affects all senses, and completely eliminates the sense of fear that has been built in people since their childhood. La Perla Dental Spa consists of friendly, cheerful, and welcoming staff members who will make patients feel like they are right in the comfort of their own homes.

NON-INVASIVE PROCEDURES

BOTOX A chemical injectable used to erase and soften dynamic wrinkles mainly around the eyes and forehead by temporarily paralyzingly the muscle injected. Keep in mind it takes two to seven days to notice results.

FILLERAlso a chemical injectable, it is used to fill deep wrinkles and hollow facial areas around the nose, lips, cheeks, chin and jaw. Effects will noticed immediately before even leaving the clinic. Popular names in the market include Juviderm and Restylen.

MESOTHERAPY It consists of a mixture of vitamins (vitamin C & A), Antioxidants and Collagens all used to boost the skin's radiance and give you a glowing appearance. Usually it takes a few days to notice a difference.

However all these procedures can cause temporary bruising and swelling, which will resolve in a few days

INVASIVE SURGICAL PROCEDURES

RHINOPLASTYBetter known as "nose job", the procedure involves reshaping the nose by getting rid of the prominent bone, narrowing its base and refine the nasal tip all through a barely visible scar.

Alternatively, surgeons have came up with a non-surgical way to reshape the nose by injecting it with filler substance in specific areas, although that is limited to certain cases and criteria.

Taking into consideration that it takes 3-6

months for the swelling to heal and see final results, so brides should plan accordingly.

LIPOSUCTIONOne of the most popularly requested procedures these days. Contrary to common misconception, liposuction is not a weight reducing procedure, but in fact, a body sculpting tool. Doctors will usually preform liposuction only to specific areas that fail to go away with regular diet and exercise. Using a metal hollow tube hooked to a negative suction machine, surgeons repeatedly pass the tube back and forth to remove fat from targeted areas like; face, neck, arms, chest, abdomen, back, hips, thighs and legs. You can expect bruising and swelling that will resolve within 3-6 weeks and wearing a pressure garment is crucial

BREAST AUGMENTATIONCommonly known as "boob job", it involves placement of silicon or saline implants in a pocket above or beneath the chest muscle, through a limited incision chosen by the patient. The patient can choose the shape (teardrop or round) and size (averaging 200cc per cup size).

Silicon gives a more natural and perky look, and studies have proven the safety of medical silicon. Usually patients are given sample implants they can try in a bigger bra to give them an idea of how they will look and feel.

Finally! The time has come! The wedding bells... every girl’s perfect dream with a perfect man, the perfect stage and the most important of all, the perfect “you”. With only four weeks left, there are lots of Farewell parties, bachelorette parties, people visiting and so much more. With a pre-scheduled plan, you can not only keep yourself organized for your “BIG” day but also to a healthier you with a healthy glow, beautiful memories and a happy you! Follow our weekly planner with the “things to do” and make a checklist. Whether you want to lose those love handles or tone those wobbly thighs, this plan can get you there with minimum effort and with a goal in focus; you know you’d do just fine. So, let’s buckle up and work to a beautiful “you” for your “perfect” day!

By Fatmah Azam Ali N.D., C.H.S., C.N.C.

EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL WORKOUT: Now is the time to focus. Nothing should be last minute. If you are a late bird, it is time to get up a little early to warm up for the day. Needless to say, you must be hitting the gym already so if you are already working out, make sure you have an energy-boosting snack to make sure that you are more energized for longer sessions. Include a 10-minute meditation and relaxation session for yourself. Your workouts can include 15-minute intense cardio sessions done one day and a 60-minute aerobic workout such as brisk walking the other. Continue these simple workouts alternating it every day of the week. To get great results, use a body brush (you get many at Body Shop) and brush your body to detox and exfoliate your skin.

NUTRITION FOCUS: Diet-wise, it is time to focus on water intake. Increasing water intake means flushing out toxins which, in turn, leads to healthy skin and boosts your metabolism thereby helping you to lose weight as well. Have a 1-liter water bottle with you always. Try to at least finish two bottles (2 liters) in a day.

WEEK 4 AND YES, THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS...

DESTINATION JEDDAH82

Page 85: DJ Issue 51

EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL WORKOUT: This week, you will increase your intense cardio session duration to 20 minutes and continue with your 60-minute brisk walking. Include all what you did last week. This week, you may do some strength training workouts in the gym for a “toned” you. Concentrate on arms, thighs and buttocks. Best time to work out: Morning. It is easy to stay motivated in the morning and results are seen often in people who do morning workouts. Now is your time to visualize. Nothing is impossible if you have the will to do and see your potential for the “big day”. Imagine the perfect day in a perfect way. If you have trouble sleeping, have camomile tea before going to sleep so you can retire peacefully. Mind power is the strongest driving force in and around us. Use it positively so you have a positive day.

NUTRITION FOCUS: Now, let’s cut down all the creamy and high-carbohydrate and high calorie meals. Go “oil-free”. If you are in a restaurant, go for grilled steak, broiled or baked meals. Your diet has to be high in protein and low in carbohydrates now, especially if you want to lose weight. If your meals are tasteless, add vinegar or lemon to it. Continue the water intake, as usual.

EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL WORKOUT: Ok, we will continue with what we were doing in Week 3 and Week 4 except the intense cardio workout session will be 30-35 minutes this week. Have a day off from your workouts every week so your body gets some time to relax and your muscles build evenly. Try some Yoga this week. Yoga adds flexibility to your body and helps get your inner imbalances, if any, into place. A 30-minute Yoga session twice a week this week will do wonders. Things can go wary in this week with you so if you have feelings to get rid of, write! Write your heart out so that in the end, you are left with nothing but positivity. Believe in Allah SWT and believe in yourself... everything would be just fine. Practice deep breathing for 10 minutes.

NUTRITION FOCUS: If you are thinking of starving yourself and getting skinny, think again. If you are going to be skipping meals, it would only get your metabolism down and all what you were doing throughout would be of no use. NEVER skip your meals or snacks. Healthy snacking on fruits is highly recommended. Relax while eating. It would not only help in better digestion but help you remain satiated for a long time. This week, its time for a facial, Moroccan bath (available in almost all salons these days) and yes, a massage! Treat yourself for the “big day”. Refresh yourself with mint tea. Avoid caffeinated items as much as possible to stay hydrated and yes, water intake continue, no compromises on the water intake if you want to see true results!

THAT’S IT! FOR YOUR WISH YOU ALL THE BEST

DAY! “PERFECT”

EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL WORKOUT: It’s here! A week left! You are not going to strain your body with any additional workouts so continue with what you were doing from Week 4, 3 and 2. This time, you need to relax more. Continue with your Yoga sessions as well. Deep breathing and meditation are highly recommended. This week will focus more on getting the beauty chores done such as the manicure, pedicure, another facial session and much more. Just make sure that you are relaxed. Your focus will be more on nutrition this week. Congratulations!! All that hard work will be paid off in just a couple of days when people will see a “gorgeous” you. Read as many Islamic books you can on the subject of having a “good marriage”. This will motivate you to be the person you should be from and after your “big” day. Let Allah SWT make this day memorable for you. Never forget your prayers while preparing for your “big” day. Be thankful to Him.

NUTRITION FOCUS: Now, there’s no sabotaging to the diet here by indulging into anything tempting but rather careful planning. Continue with all what you were doing in the previous weeks with the water intake plus as much as possible, focus on simple food consumption so you are not bloated. Go through the “Food Combining” rules on the internet so you are not bloated before your “big” day. There are basically three rules of food combining. Never combine protein with starch, water fruits (such as those from the melon family) are best eaten alone and not with meals and fruits are best when eaten alone or at least two hours post-meal. These simple rules will ensure that you are not bloated on your “big” day.
