WHAT IS DIVERTICULITIS?
❖ Diverticulitis is the inflamation of “sacs” or diverticli In the colon
❖ it is a disease found in humans

First discovered and studied in 1849, its recognition increased with thedevelopment of the barium enema

❖ Divertucla- means the formation of pouches in the abdomin

• pain in the abdomen• bright red or maroon blood in the stool.• fever• nausea• vomiting• chills• constipation• (less often, diarrhea).

• Ciprofloxacin fights bacteria in the body.
❖ Bactrim
• antibiotics that treat different types of infection caused by bacteria.
❖ Various painmedications
• to deal with the uncomfortablity and the pain

colectomy for diverticular disease
❖ even higher for cost, complications, and mortality.
