St. Joseph Parish is a Roman Catholic Church ministering to the
community of Lodi since 1917. We are a community of believers,
rich in tradition and growing in diversity. We draw our spiritual
strength and power from the Eucharistic Presence of our Lord.
We provide an atmosphere in which parishioners of all ages
and cultures share faith through Sacramental and Liturgical
celebrations, on-going faith formation and other social events
which enable us to connect our faith with the world in which
we live for the greater glory of the Risen Christ.

It may have been later and not as expected but the children and their
families were finally able to celebrate the Sacrament of
First Communion! Their retreat this year was changed to an at home project so the chil-
dren were met with a Blessing Cup Kit which included all the materials
needed to create a special momento of this beautiful
Sacrament.

Lord Jesus,
Bless the children coming
forward to receive Holy
Communion for the first time.
May this day be an initial step
into a life-long love of the
Eucharist.
Give them a hunger for this
sacred food so that they turn
to you for comfort, guidance,
and wisdom as they grow into
full discipleship.
Thank you for their innocence
and goodness.
May their hands, extended in
anticipation of your Body and
Blood, inspire all of us to
cherish this sacred Sacrament.

Home in Heaven
A pastor and a taxi driver both died and went to heaven. St. Peter was at the pearly gates waiting for them.
“Come with me,” said St. Peter to the taxi driver.
The taxi driver did as he was told and followed St. Peter to a mansion. It had everything you could imagine, from a bowling alley to an Olympic-sized swimming pool.
“Wow, thank you,” said the taxi driver.
Next, St. Peter led the pastor to a rugged old shack with a bunk bed and a little old television set.
“Wait, I think you are a little mixed up,” said the pastor. “Shouldn’t I be the one who gets the mansion? After all, I was a pastor, went to church every day, and preached God’s word.”
“Yes, that’s true,” said St. Peter. “But during your sermons, people slept. When the taxi driver drove, everyone prayed.”

Question:
How many times a day can a person receive commun-ion?
Answer:
To find an answer to this question, we need to turn to the Church’s Code of Canon Law. Here we read, “One who has received the blessed Eucharist may receive it again on the same day only within a Eucharistic cele-bration in which that person participates …” (no. 917). This tells us that the standard answer would be that we can receive communion twice in a day.
Having said that, we also want to be sure that we pay attention to the entire instruction. The phrase “within a Eucharistic celebration in which that person partici-pates” is important. It means a) that we always have to think of receiving communion as being within a cel-ebration of the Mass and b) we have to be participants in that celebration – we can’t simply show up “in time” for communion.
So, when would this rule apply?
For example, if you attend Mass on a Saturday morn-ing and then take part in the Sunday Vigil Mass on Sat-urday evening, you could licitly receive communion at both celebrations. Or, another example, if you receive communion at a wedding or funeral Mass, you could also receive communion at a daily Mass or Sunday Vig-il celebrated on the same day. We always want to be sure that we observe the rules for fasting from food and drink before receiving the eucharist (see Code of Canon Law, no. 919).
We should also remember that the Code of Canon Law instructs that anyone who is in danger of death or seri-ously ill may also receive communion a second time (no. 91, §2). ©LPi
