    . The recent food borne illnesses in Tuguegarao City resulting to fatality of two (2) pupils andincident in Makati City were hard lessons learned and a reminder of our role in protecting theand saiety of the school children. In lieu of these incidents; the Regional Health and NutritionStaff. Division Health and Nutrition Section Staff and Education Supervisors are instructed tomassive inspection of school canteens focusing on compliance to food safety standards andcompliance to DepED Order No.8, s. 2007 "Revised Implementing Guidelines on the.:mtlons and Management of School Canteens in Public Elementary and Secondary S c h o o t s ~ ' ;

    Order No. 14, s. 2005 " I n ~ t r u c t i o n s to Ensure Consumption of Nutritious and Safe Food ia, and DepED Order No. 52, 8. 2008 "Compliance to Policies on Food Safety in Schoo1"',should also look into the foods sold in the school canteens and ensure the following: Only nutrient-rich foods such as root crops. rice and "om products in native p r e p a r a t i o n ~ fruitsand vegetable in season, and fortified food products labeled rich in protein, energy, vitamins,and minerals shall be sold L'l the school canteen.
