Apologies by Saturday pm please
Great weekend had by all that attended the 9465 District Conference held last
weekend at the Bunbury Entertainment Centre.
Congratulations to DG Melodie Kevan and her splendid team from the three
Bunbury Rotary clubs for their fine effort in ensuring everyone had such a good
time over the three days of the event. The program ran like clockwork, the MC
was excellent, key-note speakers generally were outstanding and the food could
not have been better. Looking forward to Fremantle next year.
12 members and partners stayed at the Discovery Caravan Park, 8 in their
caravans and 4 in 2 chalets, great fellowship was the order of the day.
We welcomed Jamie McKnee along as guest speaker tonight, Jamie is a Street
Chaplain covering Kwinana and Rockingham, he alerted us to the ever increasing
number of homeless people that sleep out in our own backyard and the help and
assistance he and other volunteers provide on a daily basis.
Congratulations to Greg and Marge Williams who will celebrate their Golden
Wedding Anniversary on Saturday March 26th
2016 We had Greg and Marg’s
son Gregory with us tonight who has made the trip from Cooma, NSW to help
celebrate this milestone, best wishes from all at the Rotary Club of Kwinana.

Below are a collection of photos from the District 9465 Conference held in Bunbury March 2016
Guest Speaker: Street Chaplain Pastor Jamie McKnee.
Jamie originally from Glasgow, Scotland
Introduced by Rtn Lorraine Lucas.
It is disturbing that there are so many homeless people in the Rockingham/Kwinana area, they
sleep out in parks, in the sand dunes on the beach front. Many are young from 12 upwards to
middle aged, to pensioners, mainly from disjointed families who have either left home or been
kicked out and are ‘on the street’.
Tuesday night’s the volunteers cook food and take it to the people, they provide support, comfort
and befriend them in order to gain their confidence and respect.
Rockingham and Kwinana councils have both recently done surveys on the homeless in their
respective districts, results are becoming available right now.
We try to give kids hope and encouragement. The Street Chaplains are highly visible as they
walk around the areas where these homeless people congregate.
We work with School Chaplains to identify kids at risk.
We need to put pressure onto government to recognise the need and provide the necessary
funding so very much needed.
Street Chaplains are dynamic team-oriented
volunteers from a wide range of Christian
churches, who are living out the call to
‘love your neighbour as yourself’
(Matt 22:39) and be a ‘good Samaritan’.
Street Chaplains work in the WA night club
scene and have a proven record in providing
crisis pastoral care in a mission setting.
The Chaplains offer compassion, practical
help and pastoral care to all who need and
want it.
Street Chaplains work in teams of at least two into the early hours of the morning (4am!) over
Friday and Saturday nights.
The Vision of the Street Chaplaincy Program is to provide a safe environment for patrons to
enjoy a night out and not be harmed.
The aim is to be ’Good Samaritans’ to those in need and not to preach at people, but simply to
care, protect, and ensure patrons get home safely.
The simple agenda is to love and care.
Street Chaplains respect the range of cultural traditions, affiliations and religious views in the
community and are approachable by people of all beliefs.
