Q: What kind of media institution might distribute
your media product and why?
What is a media institution?
A media institution is an organisation that deals with the
production, marketing, distribution, publishing and
regulation of a media product. In this case, I have
compared a few media institutions to see who I would
prefer to use as the institution for my music magazine.
Bauer Media:Bauer Media is a division of the Bauer Media Group, Europe’s
largest privately owned publishing Group. The organisation
currently distributes over 300 magazines in 15 different
countries, this demonstrates the fact that they are a worldwide,
global company. In relation to distributing my products I think
Bauer would be very effective as they have years of experience
within the industry and therefore and very popular. The brand
name itself is also huge which reflects a positive reputation for
my magazine, it is estimated that the Bauer Media corporation
engages around 19 million consumers every week, which
proves that if this company was to distribute my product it
would be reaching my target audience across the country
effectively.
This is Bauer’s slogan, the fact there main
target is to be seen as popular and
distribute to a large population makes the
company more trust worthy as there
primary purpose is essential in relation to
distributing my products.

Bauer Media Audience:
In terms of the audience that Bauer publishes to it is very diverse. I think this is a
key factor as this allows a wide range of people to be introduced to my magazine,
My magazine is also aimed at both males and females therefore the fact Bauer
has a very large fan base, this increases the chances of my magazine become a
very popular, magazine within the current music industry. My magazine is also
aimed at those around a younger age, to contributes well as Bauer publishes a
large number of magazines that are purely aimed at younger individuals. Bauer
Media also publishes to a variety of different countries which increases the
probability of my magazine become worldwide rather than nationwide.

IPC Media:IPC has over 60 iconic media brands, creating content for multiple
platforms, across print, online, mobile, tablets and events. As one of the
UK's leading consumer magazine publishers they engage with 26m UK
adults - almost two thirds of UK women and 42% of UK men. There award
winning portfolio of websites reaches over 25 million users globally every
month. IPC Media is also said to be committed to working in partnership
with its consumers, advertisers, business partners and employees to deliver
exceptional value, service, innovation and creativity. I think IPC Media
would be an effective possible company in relation to distributing my
product as they have a huge fan base and reach their target audience in
many different formats, therefore meaning that If I was to do this, my
magazine would be very accessible across a widespread of individuals.
Brands that IPC Media distribute:
These screenshots were taken directly from the IPC Media website, Uncut and
NME are both very popular magazines within the music industry. Although they
aren't the same genre as mine, IPC would still be a good possibility as they have
experience working with top music brands and have dominance within the
market.
Intermedia Vibe Holdings:Intermedia Vibe Holdings, LLC publishes magazines and digital content
related to hip-hop generation. The company offers news, music, movies/TV
shows, photos, videos, and blogs related to hip-hop. Its publications provide
urban music, entertainment, culture, and lifestyle content for aspirational
ageing from 18 to 34. Intermedia Vibe Holdings, LLC has a strategic
partnership with Magnify Networks, Inc. The company was founded in 1993
and is based in New York, New York. Intermedia Vibe Holdings, LLC is a
prior subsidiary of uVuMobile, Inc. I think
The fact this specific organisation distribute/publish
vibe, demonstrates they are a very successful
company as they distribute VIBE to a huge audience
in several locations. I would like a company like to
this publish my magazine as they are dominant,
successful and have a lot of experience with
distribution. VIBE is also a magazine that I have
took a lot of inspiration from due to the RnB genre,
therefore I think this would be a well chosen
company to publish my products.
Chosen Media Institution:
Overall I would like Bauer Media to distribute my products, mainly due to
their experience with this process, their dominance within the market and
their popularity. I think my magazine would fit in with the products Bauer,
additionally I would lie to use Bauer as they reach a staggering target
audience which means my product will be reaching a huge collection of
individuals. The only negative that could affect the distribution with my
product is the mass amount of brands that Bauer takes care of, this could
become an issue when wanting one to one services with the institution.
How I want my product to be distributed…In relation to the distribution of my media product I would want my product very
accessible as not only does this give the audience a wider option, but it also
increases the audience as a lot more people are introduced to it. The most popular
magazines of the current society are also available on portable devices as well as
hard copies, which is why I would like my product to be distributed in this way.
Due to the increase of
proliferation and convergence
many people in todays society
access music magazines with
portable devices such as
tablets and smartphones. Due
to this increase these devices
have evolved and now have
their own apps for actual
magazines that have been
downloaded, on here I have
placed my magazine front
cover on to demonstrate this.
How I want my product to be distributed…
All mainstream music magazines also have a website for individuals to access, this
is a very effective way when communicating with the public as people from all
across the globe can access their websites. The screenshots below show popular

On the other hand although some people prefer to purchase their products on
portable devices, the other majority still purchase a physical copy. In terms of the
shops I would distribute my magazine to, I would choose places such as leading
supermarkets, as there are many of these shops across the world and almost
everyone shops within these therefore it makes the purchase accessible.
