On the Fifth Lang Theatre March 1st, 2015

Pointe shoes, pop music and contemporary still adorn the stage in DDT’s new production, On The Fifth.

With a title inspired by a musical composition, On the Fifth is a two-part program that immerses the audience in classical ballet and contemporary dance styles. Like the top note of a musical triad, On the Fifth Like the top note of a musical triad, One the Fifth layers classical and current dance styles to create harmonious movement. Part one of the program features DDT’s first work by former Nashville Ballet master/school director, and current Missouri Ballet Theatre Founder/Director Adam Sage titled Baroque Fantasy.

Part One also features the world premiere of Short’s new urban contemporary ballet, Plyo. Plyo is an observation of classical pas de deux structure married to urban trap musical score that meets at the crossroad of classical and urban sophistication.

Part two of the program is Short’s 30 minute dance, Stitch. This composition refines the high art aesthetic of classical ballet through a multicultural cast, raw-and-real humanistic stories and baroque music blended with industrial sound bites and score. A large cast of dancers fills the stage blending space, time and human choreographic architecture.

“We are really excited to bring Adam into our family. Also, I feel On The Fifth will aid in connecting the ballet and modern dance communities in Washington, D.C.” - Shawn Short Producing Artistic Director

Presented as part of INTERSECTIONS at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, Feb 20 - Mar 7, 2015

Performance Sunday March 1st, 2015 5:30pm
