SCOPE AND OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE This course deals with the research and development work in assigned areas of professional interest. Each student will work under the overall guidance and supervision of a professional. The course shall end with a well-defined Final Report, which describes the investigations, achievements/ accomplishments and conclusions of the dissertation work. The course shall help the student to be trained in research and development methodology and presentation of the work in the form of a technical report. 2. OPERA nON OF THE COURSE a) The student should prepare a detailed outline of the dissertation work in consultation with his/her Supervisor. Current literature Goumals, books etc.) must be methodically reviewed and the status of the work in the field must be considered. The detailed outline of the work must reflect a survey of the current literature in the same area and must include: Dissertation Title, Topic (/ Subject! Area) of Research (/ Development! Investigation), Objective including scope of work, Background of Previous Work in the Area, Methodology, Plan of Work, References / Bibliography and Details of Supervisor along with the names of 02 examiners. Both the student and their supervisor should sign the first page containing the supervisor details. The above order should be followed in preparing the outline. b) The student should regularly interact with their Supervisor and present seminars and submit reports as per schedule given in the calendar. Proposed examiners and other professionals in relevant area should be requested to attend the seminars. , c) Supervisor shall announce the Mid-semester grade to his/her student after completing the mid-sem seminar bylbefore the due date and send the completed Mid-semester Evaluation Form (along with the mid- sem report) to the BITS Coordinator on or before the due date. d) The student should submit two word-processed hard copies of Final Dissertation Report and Abstract (separate loose sheet- 02 copies) to the Supervisor, latest by tne due date. Supervisor shall retain one copy of the final report and send the other duly signed copy, after the final seminar and viva-voce examination (to be completed by the due date), along with the Final Evaluation Form and both copies of the Abstract (signed by both the supervisor and the student) to the BITS Coordinator on the scheduled date. It may please be noted that the Abstract is to be included in the Final Report also as per the prescribed order. .J

1. EVALUATION:

Note: Final viva-voce examination and evaluation of the Dissertation report shall be done by a

panel of examiners which would comprise of the Supervisor and at least one otherexaminer chosen. The other components are to be evaluated by the Supervisor and thedetails are to be made available to' the examiners at the time of final viva-voce.

Supervisor shall arrange to send a copy of the Dissertation report to the examiners wellin advance.

Evaluation in various components shall take into account work progress and achievements, technical/professional competence, documentation and expression, initiative and originality, punctuality andreliability, self-reliance and acquisition of special skills. It is the responsibility of the student to interactregularly (at least once a week) with their Supervisor and discuss the progress of the work and plansubsequent activities. The details of time, venue and mode of each evaluation component are to be decidedby the Supervisor, so that the evaluation can be conducted as per the given schedule.

Grading

Grading will be done by the Supervisor in consultation with the panel of examiners, on the basis of theprogress made by the individual student towards attaining the overall objectives of the Dissertation work.Although marks are assigned for various evaluation components, the final grade shall be specified only asone of the following qualitative grades namely, EXCELLENT / GOOD / FAIR / POOR.

Guidelines for preparation of the Final Report..

Some fonnats are provided for preparation of the abstract, cover page, title page, certificate from theSupervisor, and reference I bibliography (either of the two). The student should adhere to these fonnatswhile preparing the report. A checklist of items to be included in the Final Report is also provided. Thefollowing sequence should be followed in the presentation of the Final Report:
