Thank You!What a great Easter Sunday! A special thank you to everyone who made the day happen! We had an abundance of helpers, flowers and smiles on Sunday. Thank you, thank, you!

Toxic Charity“The compassion industry is almost universally accepted as a virtuous and constructive enterprise. But what is so surprising is that its outcomes are almost entirely unexamined.”-Toxic Charity: How Churches and Charities Hurt Those They Help (And How to Reverse It) by Robert LuptonI am excited to begin our “Toxic Charity” conversations after church this Sunday. Inspiration from Robert Lupton’s book will guide our conversa-tion and if you have read the book, you will be familiar with some of the topics and concepts, but by no means do you have to read the book to partici-pate in our group. Our conversation begins at 11:15 and light refreshments are served. We will finish promptly at 12:30. My hope is that this conversa-tion serves as an opportunity to think more critically about how we serve our community. Below is our schedule.Sunday, April 23: “What’s the Scenar-io?” Together, we will examine some real life scenarios from inside and out-side our community to determine the

toxicity of our service. Are we helping? Are we hurting? Why does it have to be so complicated?Sunday, May 7: “The Oath” Lupton’s book outlines an oath for compassion-ate service. Sunday, May 21: “How are We Doing?” Together, we will examine how we are engaged in “mission” work. Sunday, June 11: “Changes” This is where the rubber hits the road. What do we need to change about our un-derstanding and approach to mission and service work? Are our “service partners” actively working to become non-toxic charities? I’m looking forward to seeing you there!Peace, Pastor Matt
