Dismissal of a Batsman

2
DISMISSAL OF A BATSMAN There are ten ways in which a batsman may be dismissed. Once is dismissed, he leaves the field to be replaced by another batman. When the tenth batsmen are out the remaining not-out batman has run out of partners, at which point the side is “all out” and the innings is over. Many modes of dismissal require the wicket to be “put down”. The wicket is put down is a bail is dislodged from the top of the stumps or if a stump is stuck out of the ground either by the ball or by a fielder using his hand which is holding the ball. Of the following ten modes of dismissal, the first six common, while the last four are technicalities which rarely occur. Briefly the ten modes are: 1. Caught 2. Bowled 3. Leg before wicket 4. Run out 5. Stumped 6. Handled the ball 7. Hit wicket 8. Hit the ball twice 9. Obstructing the field 10. Timed out
