Disk Bowl Centrifuge…
Centrifugation…
In general, centrifugation is a process of separation using centrifugal force as the driving force. Centrifugal style is the style that occurs due to rotation, the direction its style is from the center of rotation out to the outer radius. In the two-liquid phase separation can be done if the two liquids have different density. The greater density difference of the two liquids more easily separated by centrifugation.
Separation of the most often encountered in industry is the separation of fat contained in the full cream milk. With centrifugation separated the fat in order to obtain skim milk, milk with low fat content, which ranges ± 3% by weight
Centrifugal force…
Centrifugal force is the force caused by rotation, the direction its style is from the center towards the tool outer radius. Centrifugal force, Fc can be formulated as follows:
Disc Bowl Centrifugation
This is type of centrifugation which use to separates mixture of liquid-liquid phase with light phase (L) and heavy phase (H). Usually used to separate liquid latex, suspension, and liquid lubricants.
Centrifuges working principle
By utilizing the nature of the two substances which have different density, so with centrifugal force the substances will be pushed out from the center of rotation with distance value which depends on its density.
In disc bowl centrifuge there are two holes, that is for substances with greater density and substance with a lower density. Incoming feed having equal force to the vessel wall and this caused the separation of the particles through a perforated disk.
Incoming feed will be separated based on weight, the greatest weight will be separated in advance so that it placed in bottom position because of the greater centrifugal force, then thrown towards the outer radius of the vessel. While the lighter particles will patch and collected around the shaft. Through the disk bowls that form gap as a way out for each substance that has a density that was after a centrifugal force and then come out and collected from two different paths.
Scheme of Disc Bowl Centrifugation
Procedures to uses Disc Bowl Centrifuge
1.Washes and dried every parts of disc bowl centrifuge before we use it.
2.Rearranges parts of disc bowl until we can use it.
3.Prepares sample , for example coconut milk.
4.Close the hole at reception centre centrifuge, and then a sample poured to reception centre.
5. Put off a beaker plastic into each of output (heavy liquid output and light liquid).
6. Turn on a device and set up velocity.
7. Wait ± 5 minutes until a centrifuge heard stable.
8. Open hole of centrifuge vessel and wait till the flow of each output doesn’t drops again.
8. Consider temperature, density, and volume of each output.
9. Save the light liquid phase to combines with light liquid which got at other rotation velocity.
Safety when used disk bowl centrifuge
Experiments using high velocity, make sure all the installation, assembly tool before the operation have done well to avoid any equipment components are released, flew in a potentially injure yourself
Conclusion• Centrifugal force is force
caused by rotation with direction of force out of the center of rotation;
• Centrifugation can be used to separate the liquid-liquid mixture having a different density
• Greater density of a substance, so centrifugal force that works against these substances greater.
• The density of heavy liquid is greater than the density of mixture while the density of liquid light is smaller than the density of the mixture
• Centrifugal force is influenced by the density of the fluid, the radius of bowl tool, rotation speed and volume of fluid produced Centrifugal force is influenced by the density of the fluid, the radius of bowl tool, rotation speed and volume of fluid produced
