BIM believes in matching the strengths and talents of a student to the role that one accepts. The PGP program is so structured that students are able to discover their strengths, develop areas of interest and convert their pas-sion into a career. This process gets better year-on-year. The 28th batch placements was one of the remarkable moments when BIM proved its mettle. Leaders from diverse industries came to recruit at BIM despite the eco-nomic slowdown. Major companies that regularly visit BIM for placements on day 1 are: Asian Paints, Exim Bank, Renault Nissan, CRISIL, TAFE(Tractors and Farm Equipment Ltd), SBI Caps, ICRA and the list goes on.

Day 1 of the placement process for the batch 2011-13 got off to a flying start with nearly 65% of the batch getting placed within 8 hrs.  20 companies (including the ones mentioned above) representing most of the major indus-tries participated in the process and made 75 offers. Subsequently 22 companies participated in the process and made more than 40 offers. This year too, BIM recorded 100% placements with its students getting top profiles in prestigious organisations.

Executive Placements

The summer placement process for the 29th batch at BIM saw a number of conventions broken and new trends set. Summer placements usually serve as a sneak-peak for the students into their industry of preference. This year, the summers represented the sheer “willingness to learn” spirit of BIM’ites –Internship at a NGO, Internship at a SriLankan firm and what not.

The process also saw diversified industry leaders like RBI, SBIcaps, Asian Paints, TAFE, Wealth Advisors, Hyundai identifying talent in the campus and giving the students a coveted opportunity of working with them.

Students of BIM presented to Shri Hari Kumar Kaza, Vice President, HSBC, a funding proposal for BIM’s new campus. In an interaction exclusively for DISHA, Mr. Hari talks about corporate life, the challenges facing future managers and much more..

Expert Talk

Please rate the qualities of presentations provided by the students at BIM and mention a few improvement points (if any).

The fi rst team had incorporated Corporate and Retail products in their off erings to the institute. The second team concentrated more on the fi nancials which provided some interesting insights like proposing to phase out capex across three years in order to even out the cash fl ows. On the whole, both the teams had performed remarkably well.

With the presence of a challenging external environment, how would you advise the future managers of today to face the challenges which lie ahead of them in the corporate world, especially the banking sector?

In an emerging economy like India and many like it, the level of uncertainty is on the rise and hence future managers shouldn’t look at career as a linear path. They need to constantly equip themselves with more than one skill and prepare themselves to be fl exible to work across multiple streams enabling them to fl ow with the wind, as needed.

Tell us about your life as an MBA student at BIM and life as the Vice President of a multinational Bank today?

It will be very challenging to compare the two. Life at BIM is one of my most cherished memories. Even though I wasn’t earning there was a sense of certainty which prevailed, except during the placement period, despite all the surprises which the academic rigor would entail. The corporate world will require one to brace oneself for all the uncertainties and fl uctuations.

What were your fi rst thoughts when you visited the campus after a long time?

To be honest, there wasn’t much change since the last time I came which was about 3-4 years back and to be honest why should there be. During the course of my discussion with administration I Iearnt that construction of our own campus is underway but sadly it is going to take another 4-5 years. During my discussion with the Director, I suggested that as alumni we will be more than happy to contribute for the institute in whatever way we can.

Mr. Muthu Kumar Thanu, Chief HR Officer, Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited (TAFE) as quoted in an interview with Business Today Magazine on Oct 27, 2013.

“The attributes we look for while recruiting are good grooming, a positive attitude and humility,” says Muthuku-mar Thanu, Group Chief HR Officer at TAFE, which has been recruiting BIM students over the years.

“We engage with the young people at BIM through our management development programmes and other interactive forums giving them an opportunity to understand our organ-isation and its culture, so that when they join, they can be-come productive immediately,” he adds.

Growth must be complete. At BIM, students are trained not only to

improve their skills and abilities but also to grow as better individuals in society and the corporate world. One-on-one personality develop-ment sessions conducted by the Image Consulting Business Institute helped students to hone their soft skills, etiquette and public image re-sulting in great value addition to in-dividual members.

Barry O’Brien, one of the coun-try’s leading quizmasters and

a renowned motivational speaker, spent four days with the first year students conducting a workshop on communication skills. The various activities of the workshop were designed in a way to polish the public speaking skills of the students.

Learning Beyond Textbooks

MARWARMarwar is the annual flagship event of Bismarc,

the marketing club of BIM. Marwar gives the first year students a hands-on learning experience of need-gap analysis, market research, segmentation-target-ing-positioning, BTL promotions, digital marketing, services marketing, product innovation, integrated media communica-tions, consumer engagement, personal selling and many more. A sequence of tasks are given over four days with strict deadlines for deliverables. The result is a holistic experience of marketing in the real-world. Marwar 2013 saw some very innovative ideas from students. 17 teams had registered for the event, each coming out with a unique, innovative and feasible business idea for an identifiable need-gap. Based on their presentations, 9 teams were shortlisted to move forward in the competition and engage in market-ing their idea to their target segments. On the final day, the 9 teams made their final presentations in an extravagant style. The winning products were Y-Note (A digital notebook for school kids), i-Life (A wearable SoS device forthe elderly) and Camzole (A shoe with interchangeable soles).

BIM Spirited, the social responsibility team of BIM, Trichy consists of a group of students who share a commitment towards the upbringing of the society.

They coordinate various events throughout the year from Organizing blood donation camps to or-phanage visits and also conduct various activities as part of initiatives like Joy of Giving week.

The government primary school and children’s home in the nearby areas has been adopted as the main working areas. BIM Spirited funded the con-struction of a compound wall for the school, which prevented the entry of passers-by and stray animals into the campus.

Students from BIM Spirited celebrate all national festivals with the students of the school, thereby, unraveling the significance of the festival, distribut-ing sweets, playing videos related to the festival and quizzing them on the same.

All the activities of BIM Spirited club are funded solely by the contributions from BIM students. The students also volunteer enthusiastically for all the events planned, which makes this activity a huge success.

BIM SpiritedPoised to make our world a place of abundance

Oracle of the TrimEconomistique - the youngest of BIM’s clubs, conducted an event to bring out and polish the predictive and analytic skills of the students. The event “Oracle of the Trimester” had a set a

phenomenal challenge to the students - to predict the macroeconomic status of our nation in the next financial quarter. The responses recieved were equally phenomenal. Many students came

up with different perspectives and approaches to why and how the economy will be in the near future. Several new economic indicators were identified, many refreshing linkages between day to day occourances and economy were identified. The first prize was given to Mr. Dharani Aras for his “analysis based prediction” approach. The second prize was shared by Mr. Sudharsan Sezhian (for his identification and prediction of a variety of econom-ic indicators) and Mr. Rohit Menon (for his comprehensive coverage of all important happenings in the economy).
