Church Council’s Role
• Church Council selected the Call Committee, which is intended to be representative of St. Barnabas across age and gender
• not involved in candidate selection or recommendation process – this information is not shared with Council
• Church Council will receive the name of the recommended candidate when the Call Committee has a person to recommend
• A congregational vote will be called by Church Council on the recommended candidate

• Transition Project Manager – keep track of all the work to support the transition to a new Lead Pastor
• Transition Readiness – led by Scott Gilyard, has documented all job responsibilities for Pastors and staff
• Preparation – includes Church Council work and Congregational Assessment Tool (CAT) survey, led by Andy Cosette
• Church Council Personnel Committee - drafted Lead Pastor job description, available to candidates
• Call Committee – selected by Church Council and assembled in October, Congregational Conversation (CC) held
by Bishop Ann Svennungsen on Dec. 10; drafted, finalized and posted Ministry Site Profile (MSP)
• Praying as We Journey Through Change – email prayer group, led by Glenna Whitmill, to support the transition
• Celebrations – led by Holly Bayer to celebrate Pastor Wayne’s retirement!

“Quiet Period”
Call Committee is required to keep candidate names, interviews, selected candidate confidential until
candidate is approved by Church Council
Candidate(s) can include:
• Pastor Amber (if she indicates she is interested)
• Pastors who self-nominate (based on St. Barnabas’s Ministry Site Profile) - they are vetted by Bishop’s
office as a good potential fit before their candidate profile is sent to St. Barnabas
• Pastors identified by the Bishop’s office
• Pastors nominated by St. Barnabas members

Call Committee Timeline – mid 2020
• If recommended candidate is approved by Church Council, St. Barnabas will hold a congregation meeting
to vote Yes or No on calling the recommended candidate
-if candidate receives ‘Yes’ votes from at least 2/3 of the voters, an official letter of call will be sent
to the Synod for the recommended candidate
-if candidate does not receive enough ‘Yes’ votes, the process starts again until the Call Committee
recommends another candidate
• New Lead Pastor start date is TBD, depending on candidate and their availability, goal is start date in July
or August
