Welcome to the 50th ICCA Congress in Leipzig, Germany
Dear Colleagues,
ICCA is the most prominent organisation for the international meetings sector. It is almost 30 years since the ICCA Congress was hosted by Germany. We are honoured and delighted to be hosting this prestigious event in 2011 once again. On behalf of the German Convention Bureau and its members we extend our warmest welcome to all ICCA Congress delegates and participants.
Germany offers a diverse and wonderful range of locations, culture, heritage and culinary experiences. These - in combination with our friendly hospitality, ecological awareness, pre-mium standards, value for money and excellent transportation and communications networks – have transformed Germany into Europe’s number one meetings destination.
Germany is attractive for all of the above reasons – but they are certainly not the only ones! I believe that Germany’s real strength lies in the fact that Germany is a leader in areas such as global trade, international business, scientifi c research and technological development. This dynamic, innovative and fertile environment, together with Germany’s state-of-the-art meetings infrastructure, offers an ideal context for well-organized and successful congresses and conferences.
We would like to specially thank the ICCA Board of Directors for the confi dence and trust it has placed in Germany, for allowing us to present our country from various aspects, and for enabling us to strengthen our good standing in the international meetings industry.
We hope that you will experience much of what Leipzig and Germany has to offer during your stay. The pre- and post-tours will enable you to gain valuable insights into our many towns, cities and regions and to discover what creative meeting, incentive, conference and event possibilities await you there.
I wish all delegates a productive and challenging congress with lots of interesting discus- sions and plenty of new impressions and contact opportunities. Above all I wish you a most memorable stay.
I very much look forward to seeing you in Leipzig.
Enjoy yourself and enjoy Germany!

Welcome to GermanyWhat comes to mind when you think of Germany? Most certainly, it will be a colourful mixture of very modern and very traditional things. You probably think of quality cars and tasty beer, of modern high-speed trains and romantic castles along the river Rhine. You all have pictures in your minds of the Brandenburg Gate, the Oktoberfest, the Cologne Cathedral and Hamburg Harbour. Yet, so many hidden treasures, bearing witnesses to an impressive history and century-old traditions, wait to be discovered. The 50th ICCA Congress is your opportunity to do so. You are cordially invi-ted to arrive earlier or to stay longer in Germany, to explore the most charming and fascinating aspects of your host country. You can do so on your own, but you do not have to.
Some dedicated German regions – each of them epitomising the very best of tradition and modern life in Germany – have teamed up to offer you special pre- and post-convention tour packages. They are exclusively designed to meet the interests of delegates to the ICCA Congress. This brochure introduces these regions to you and gives you an overview of the tour programmes in each region. Programme details and prices can be found in the “Pre & Post Tours” section of the congress homepage.
Germany is a land of a thousand possibilities where you can experience new things, have fun and relax. Vibrant cities with amazing architecture are waiting for you, fabulous
shopping and pulsating nightlife. Discover enchanting medieval towns and traditional wine villages with friendly festivals and regional specialities.
Unique art treasures and architectural structures of fasci-nating beauty offer visitors an unforgettable experience. These include Roman baths, medieval monasteries, Gothic cathedrals, Baroque palaces, Art Nouveau villas, late 19th/early 20th century industrial buildings and the early Moder-nist masterpieces of the Bauhaus movement. UNESCO has preserved many of these buildings for future generations by designating them world heritage sites.
Germany’s classical music heritage is second to none: Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schu-mann, Felix Mendelssohn, Johannes Brahms and Richard Wagner are just a handful of the many great German composers whose music is performed throughout the world. A wide range of dynamic modern music can be heard at hundreds of jazz clubs, musical theatres and pop/rock events.
One of the German words which is probably hardest to translate into other languages is Gemütlichkeit. One of its aspects is the company of good friends in a cosy pub, enjoying good food and beer or wine, possibly accompanied by some traditional or modern live music. From the North
Sea to the Alps you can taste well over 5,000 different kinds of beer on tap, made by no fewer than 1,200 breweries. The true connoisseur praises German wine, some dry and some sweeter, but always smooth and filigree like nowhere else in the world. You can also drink natural mineral water, again and again, it bubbles here from 550 natural sources. All this comes with a great variation of local cooking traditions which goes far beyond the famous sauerkraut and sausages. German restaurants typically use high quality local produce and ingredients for a food loving nation and people who very much enjoy socialising and eating out with friends and families. As a German proverb says: good meals and drinks hold the body and soul together.
When you travel in Germany, you will discover a fascinating diversity of natural landscapes: from the North German Low-lands with their moorlands and lakes to the gently rolling hills of the Central German Uplands, to the majestic mountains of the Alps. By the way: from Leipzig, you can reach any German destination within less than 5 hours via high-speed train – e.g. Berlin (1:10 hours), Dresden (1:20 hours), Hamburg (3:00), Frankfurt (3:00), Munich (4:30 hours), and Cologne (4:50 hours). Travel times for all domestic flights are less than one hour. On your journey, you will benefit from the efficiency and quality of the German transport infrastructure.

LEIPZIG: Your host city
HistoryThe attractiveness of this modern and cosmopolitan city in central Germany is rooted in its history. The world’s first trade fairs were held here in the 12th century. In 1409 the Alma Mater Lipsiensis – Germany’s second oldest university – was founded. In the second half of the 19th century, Leipzig became the forerunner of industrialisation in Germany. Over the course of the centuries, committed citizens have supported the arts, collected paintings, endowed museums and founded the world-famous Gewandhaus Orchestra. Leipzig was in the international limelight in autumn 1989 with its “Peaceful Revolution” which led to the fall of the Berlin Wall, German reunification and the end of the Cold War. All these factors have contributed to the unique liberal and tolerant spirit of the city and the hospitality of its citizens.
City of musicLeipzig has secured world-wide renown as a city of music thanks to the works of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Robert Schumann and Johann Sebastian Bach, who lived and worked in the city from 1723 to 1750 – the longest he ever lived in one place. A concert by St Thomas’ Choir in the very place where Bach worked – St Thomas’ Church – is one of the cultural and emotional highlights of a visit to Leipzig. Another highlight not to be missed is a concert given by the world-famous Gewandhaus Orchestra.
Art and architectureMany historic eras and events have left their marks on Leipzig’s architecture. In the historic city centre, you can explore the remains of the mediaeval fortress of the Moritz-bastei, which now houses a popular student club. You can marvel at the Old Town Hall built in beautiful Renaissance style, the Baroque Old Stock Market, and the playfully de-corated Art Nouveau houses. You can also admire stunning Wilhelminian-style edifices such as the New Town Hall. Or you can treasure a moment of contemplation in the churches of St Thomas and St Nickolas, the latter being the spring-board for the Peaceful Revolution of 1989.
There are more than 50 museums in Leipzig. Lovers of paintings and sculpture can discover the collections of the Museum of Fine Art or admire works by avant-garde artists and representatives of the “Leipzig School” at the Museum of Contemporary Art and the studios and galleries in the Leipziger Spinnerei.
Lifestyle and recreationLeipzig’s citizens have always appreciated a high quality of life. Accordingly, there are all sorts of possibilities for different experiences. These include a visit to the theatre, variety show or cabaret. In the lively Old Town more than 1,200 restaurants, pubs and cafés offer refreshment and an opportunity to relax. Following a shopping spree in the magnificent Wilhelminian shopping arcades, some visitors are drawn to the nostalgic cafés, fashionable restaurants and elegant streets around the historic market square, whilst others prefer to mix with the students in the alternative art, theatre and pub scene. With over 120 hectares of woodland and parks and with golf courses, rivers and canals within the city and the lakes to the south, Leipzig offers a wide range of recreational activities, including the Botanical Garden and Leipzig Zoo. With its cultural richness, its quality of life and the hospitableness of its citizens, Leipzig makes an inspiring and unifying impression on its visitors. You are warmly invi-ted to experience it for yourself in Leipzig.
Welcome to Leipzig, the host city to the 50th ICCA Congress 2011. In addition to the many learning and networking opportunities at the congress, Leipzig also offers excellent cultural and recreational experiences.

LEIPZIG: The science, business and meeting destination
ScienceLeipzig offers a particularly favourable environment for con-ferences, not only in terms of the quality of meeting facilities, but also and in particular in terms of the strong science and research-related establishments. Leipzig has been a city of science and education for many centuries. Around 38,000 students are enrolled at Leipzig University, the Leip-zig Graduate School of Management, the Leipzig College of Engineering, Business and Arts, and other colleges. Important scientific and academic establishments in Leipzig include St George’s Hospital, the UFZ Helmholtz Centre of Environment Research, BIO CITY LEIPZIG, the IZI Fraunhofer Instutute of Cell Therapy and Immunology, the Max Planck Institute of Evolutionary Anthropology, and many others. All of them are making their contribution towards our future, and they have frequently contributed to the success of mee-tings and conferences in Leipzig.
BusinessIn the 19th century, with the founding of corporate enti-ties and the extension of the transport network, Leipzig became the forerunner of industrialisation in Germany. The first long-distance railway in Germany was opened in 1839, running between Leipzig and Dresden. Today, drive and the entrepreneurial spirit once again provide fertile soil for well-known companies such as Porsche, BMW, DHL and Amazon, who are making major investments in and moving to the city. Since the reunification of Germany, a total of around 25 billion euros has been invested in Leipzig. The city has identified the clusters of logistics & services, automotive & supply industries, health management & biotechnology, energy & environment, and media as strategic objectives of economic growth. Accordingly, these themes account for the major part of corporate meetings held in Leipzig.
Meeting destinationAbout 850 years ago, with the world’s first trade shows, Leipzig emerged as the hub of east-west trade. Throughout the centuries, commerce and the university have made the city popular as a meeting place. In the 20th century, pre-war Leipzig had become an important host city to large inter-national and national meetings of scientific communities and political movements. During the Cold War and a period
of relative isolation, Leipzig still hosted its annual trade fairs, but lost much of its importance as a conference city. Following German reunification, Leipzig re-invented itself, created powerful meeting infrastructures and secured itself a place in the top 100 international meeting destinations in Europe – and the top 10 in Germany. This achievement can be an inspiring role model for emerging meeting destinations in any part of the world.
Leipzig’s suppliers to the meeting and conference industry have teamed up to guarantee clients best quality and services at all times, which finds its due expression in the campaign “Feel the Spirit”. The website ww.do-it-at-leipzig.de presents the destination and each supplier in detail, and event organisers can submit their enquiries online and receive offers tailored to their individual specifications. One of the Feel-the-Spirit partners is the CCL Congress Center Leipzig, host venue to the ICCA Congress 2011.

Berlin is one of the most visited cities in Europe today. Its dramatic history, coupled with the fast-paced change it has seen over the past two decades, lend it a particularly fascinating aura.
Berlin
Twenty years after the Berlin Wall fell and Germany was reunited Berlin has established itself as a young, dynamic and cosmopolitan city at the heart of Europe. The unique appeal of Germany’s capital lies not only in the fact that the restaurants, bars and clubs have no offi cial closing time; 175 museums, including the recently reopened Neues Muse-um on the Museum Island, over 130 stages in opera houses and theatres, as well as seven major symphony orchestras offer a diverse programme of top-class social events. The cultural highlights planned for 2011 include the exhibitions “Faces of the Renaissance“ (25th August to 20th November 2011 at the Bode Museum) and Yadegar Asisi’s “PERGA-MON – Panorama of an ancient metropolis“ (October 2011 to autumn 2012 at the Pergamon Museum).
Berlin’s restaurant scene is as diverse and exciting as the city itself. The possibilities extend from a currywurst or doner kebab stand through exotic specialities right up to a three-course meal prepared by a celebrated chef at the Käfer restaurant, right next to the famous glass dome on the Reichstag building.
According to the latest ICCA fi gures, Berlin ranks among the top four key destinations for association congresses in the world. The German capital boasts Europe’s most modern hotels and more than 115,000 hotel beds. The city is also home to Europe’s largest conference centre, the International
Congress Centrum Berlin (ICC Berlin). Several renowned event organisers have already booked their places for the next few years at the ICC Berlin, which has been named the “Leading Conference & Convention Centre“ by the World Travel Awards for the sixth consecutive time.
The capital’s new airport, Berlin Brandenburg International BBI, which is due to open in June 2012, will give a further boost to the city’s already successful development.

It is no coincidence that Dresden has gained an international reputation as a city of art and culture. Situated at the heart of the idyllic Elbe valley, only one hour from Leipzig, the city is home to art treasures of world renown, and at the same time is a young and dynamic place.
Dresden
With 34,000 students at the University of Technology, Dresden is a very lively city where new stimuli constantly ensure a high quality of life and a diverse cultural scene. Business and industry in Dresden covers a broad range of specialities, including in particular the future-oriented fi elds of microelectronics / information and communication technology, nanotechnology /new materials and life science /biotechnology. Research is carried out in these fi elds at the Fraunhofer and Max-Planck Institutes. Good connections by rail, air and road and a very well-developed infrastructure are enough to convince an increasing number of event organisers of the benefi ts of Dresden as a congress and conference location.
The opening of the “Börse Dresden“ in autumn 2010 as the convention centre of MESSE DRESDEN has made the city even more attractive on the international stage. The Interna-tional Congress Center Dresden, which was opened in 2004, boasts a unique site directly on the banks of the Elbe close to the historical town centre.
The major tourist attractions are all within close proximity of the famous Brühl’s Terrace, which extends along the river. The reconstructed Frauenkirche, which was destroyed in the Second World War and is now a symbol of reconciliation, the Hofkirche, the theatre square, the Semperoper and the Zwin-ger, which was once the scene of court festivities, give an indication of why Dresden has been known as the “Florence on the Elbe“ for more than 200 years. A trip on a traditional paddle-steamer on the Elbe or taking in the riverside palaces and the idyllic vineyards of the Elbe valley really brings Dresden’s attractive surroundings to life.

Henning Wossidlo, spokesman for TriWiCon, the company established
by the city of Wiesbaden with responsibility for trade fairs,
congresses and tourism: “As a location for trade fairs and conferences of interna-
tional renown, Wiesbaden offers countless unusual loca-
tions besides the major venues of the Rhein-Main-Hallen
and the Kurhaus Wiesbaden, such as the Platte Hunting
Lodge, which boasts unique architecture in exceptional
surroundings.“
August Moderer, Managing Director, Congress Centrum Mainz GmbH:
“Mainz is situated at the heart of
Europe in Germany’s largest metropolitan
region. The state capital is both a centre of culture and a
key location for both business and media, as well as being
one of the three oldest cities in Germany. Come and be
amazed by the compact city and its people!“
MainzPlaying host to hosts: The capital of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate with around 200,000 inhabitants is one of the three oldest cities in Germany and today is a major centre of culture, as well as being a key location for business and me-dia. The Congress Centrum Mainz, 20 minutes from Frankfurt International Airport, is located directly in the city centre on the banks of the Rhine.
Three more top locations make the city a major destination for conference and congress organisers. The Rheingoldhalle, which is to be found in the city centre directly on the Rhine, boasts over 7,000 square metres of event space spread over 15 rooms and is directly linked to the Mainz Hilton Hotel. The Electoral Palace, which dates from the 17th century and is today one of the most attractive Renaissance buil-dings in Europe, provides an exclusive backdrop for all kinds of events. Eight reception rooms offer space for up to 2,000 people. The Frankfurter Hof, which was built in 1841, also looks back on a long cultural tradition. The building has been lovingly restored and now boasts clear lines, a foyer fl ooded with natural light and a gallery.
Wiesbaden: A harmonious blend of tradition and innovation: The capital of the state of Hesse, there are many reasons why Wiesbaden makes an excellent conference and congress location. The city, with its 270,000 inhabitants, is not only very central and easy to reach with various modes of transport, the city centre itself is also very compact. Both the major congress and conference centres, as well as the hotels, which cater for the most discerning guests, are, for the most part, all in close proximity. This makes it possible to meet organisers’ individual requirements, which often demand attractive exhibition spaces and rooms for smaller symposia in addition to congress facilities. Wiesbaden, the “green city“, is also situated at the gateway to the wine region Rheingau, one of the most beautiful winegrowing areas in Germany. Wiesbaden already has a long tradition as a congress and trade fair location and also hosts many other events of international renown. In 1882, Robert Koch opened the fi rst congress for specialists in internal medicine here, and this major congress is still held in the city today.

The city’s sobriquet is derived from its international port, through which people from around the world have passed on a daily basis for centuries. This cosmopolitanism today makes a greater impression on the historical trading city than ever. The city on the River Elbe is a vibrant place that is constantly moving forward. It is a lively city that needs to be experienced live. Visitors can enjoy the typical Hanseatic fl air along the maritime mile extending from the Speicherstadt, the warehouse district, via the new developed HafenCity to the landing bridges and the Fish Market. Here you can get up close to huge container ships and elegant cruise liners from around the world – right in the city centre. And the bargees are full of exciting and entertaining stories from the harbour’s 800-year history, which can be heard on their harbour tours.
Hamburg offers event organisers from around the world a wide range of fi rst-class opportunities. Whether conventional or exceptional, with conference hotels to suit all needs, unusual locations, fi ne restaurants, a unique cultural scene and numerous tourist attractions, Hamburg is a safe haven for unforgettable events. As a northern hub, Hamburg boasts good connections by rail, air and road, as well as a compact street plan and an excellent infrastructure.
Around 70,000 events are held every year in Hamburg, attracting 1.7 million conference guests to the city. The re-cently modernised trade fair centre and the Congress Center Hamburg (CCH), one of Europe’s leading congress centres, offer an attractive backdrop for all kinds of function.
With the diverse recreational and cultural activities on offer, the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg is one of the most popular and successful city destinations in Germany. The intrinsic maritime fl air gives the “gateway to the world“ a unique quality.

Magdeburg – the burial place of Emperor OttoOf particular historical signifi cance in terms of the cultural heritage of the city on the Elbe is Magdeburg’s 1,200 year-old cathedral. The fi rst Gothic cathedral to be built in Ger-many, it houses the tomb of Otto the Great. The city’s oldest building, a real “pearl“ on the so-called Romanesque Road, is the Unser Lieben Frauen monastery, which today houses an art gallery. Newer attractions include the Magdeburg Wa-ter Bridge, the longest navigable aqueduct in the world, and the Hundertwasser house, the Green Citadel of Magdeburg.
Halle (Saale)Halle’s art history includes names such as Cranach, Dürer, Wolff, Luther and Feininger. Handel was born here, and his work has provided the foundations for a Handel tradition of international renown. The Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg, which is over 500 years old, was a major centre of the early Enlightenment in Europe.

The region of Dessau-Roßlau is home to such a unique collection of art treasures, that it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. These treasures that it include the Bauhaus, the masters’ houses and the landscaped gardens in Dessau-Wörlitz. When the Bauhaus moved here in the 1920s, Dessau was regarded as the driving seat of modernism.
United they stand as the Combined Conference Centres: together the three largest towns in the state of Saxony-Anhalt provide attractive locations for conferences and congresses – an impressive package comprising local hospitality, modern conference hotels and congress centres and unusual special locations.
Magdeburg, Halle & Dessau
Dr. Reiner Haseloff, Minister for Economics and Business for the State of Saxony-
Anhalt:“To be honest, you can fi nd hotels and con-
ference rooms everywhere. What is unique about Saxony-
Anhalt is the rich cultural tradition which it offers to its
visitors. Emperor Otto I, Handel, the landscaped gardens
in Wörlitz and the Bauhaus are all excellent reasons to
choose the Combined Conference Centres of Magdeburg.

Sabina Linke, Director Acquisition and Marketing, NürnbergMesse/CCN
CongressCenter Nürnberg:“I love to browse for hours in Germany’s oldest book-
shop on the Hauptmarkt and work up an appetite for
Nuremberg’s famous specialities, which simply taste
great in Germany’s oldest wine tavern and the local which
Dürer and Sachs were known to frequent in the nearby
Glöckleinsgasse.”
From a historical globe to a modern global village: As the “home town of globalization” Nuremberg offers a broad range of possibilities to discover Germany’s past and present – giving a vivid impression of history, culture and a dynamic economy.
Nuremberg
A traditional grilled sausage snack in the historical Artisans’ Courtyard, the unique setting of city walls, timber-framed buildings, narrow winding streets and squares make a walk through the old town quarter up to the medieval Imperial Castle an unforgettable experience of one of the most traditional German cities. The Germanisches Nationalmuse-um, the largest museum of German art and culture, presents innumerable inventions that started out from Nuremberg to take the world by storm, like the fi rst globe, the fi rst pocket watch or the fi rst German railway. The many works of art created by Nuremberg’s artists also read like a worldwide who’s who, including Albrecht Dürer, Veit Stoß, Adam Kraft, Peter Vischer and Hans Sachs.
The “Essigbrätlein” restaurant in the castle quarter with its two Michelin stars proves that Nuremberg still lives up to its medieval reputation as a stronghold for spices.
The global headquarters of adidas and PUMA provide impressive evidence that the global village is still a trading centre of worldwide importance today. The Jabulani, the of-fi cial ball for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, conquered the world from here. A visit to the brand centre at the headquarters of adidas and PUMA and shopping trip to the local outlets could round out a stay in Nuremberg. Visitors interested in history can visit the Documentation Center at the Nazi Party Rally Grounds and the court where the Nuremberg Trials where held. Rothenburg ob der Tauber, one of the most perfectly preserved German romantic towns, is not far from Nuremberg.
The team of Nuremberg’s modern exhibition and congress centre (NürnbergMesse/CCN CongressCenter Nürnberg) warmly welcomes you.

OsnabrückIdyllic old town alleyways lined with medieval houses, impressive sacred buildings and attractive surroundings give the city of Osnabrück a unique charm. With hotels such as the Steigenberger Hotel Remarque – named after the author Erich Maria Remarque, who was born in Osnabrück – the city offers accommodation of the highest quality. Unusual locations, such as the unter.Bau conference centre, which, with its striking architecture, is part of the natural history museum, the only underground zoo in the world, housing various themed environments, and the newly renovated OsnabrückHalle make the city the ideal location for con-ference guests.
MünsterMünster with it’s distinctive profi les “Science and Savoir -vivre“ ranks among the key research locations in Germany. The elegant Prinzipalmarkt with its arcades and gabled houses was fi rst built in the 12th century. Conference visitors will experience Münster as a city on the water. The vital fl air of Münster’s harbour district offers a diverse range of locations for conferences and events – from the modern exhibition and congress centre down to spaces for smaller groups.
Osnabrück & MünsterUnited in peace: World history was written in the cities of Münster and Osnabrück. It was here that the negotiations were held leading to the Peace of Westphalia, which ended the Thirty Years’ War in Europe in 1648. And the two cities still live and breathe peace today – each in its own way.
Prof. Dr. Otto Klemm, Head of the Climatology working group at the Institute of
Landscape Ecology at the University of Münster:
“The city of Münster with its 50,000 students at the uni-
versity and seven other higher-education institutions, the
university hospital and a Max Planck Institute ranks among
Germany’s leading research locations. Events such as the
“Fog and Dew Conference 2010“ attract leading resear-
chers from across the world to Münster.“
Prof. Helmut Schwägermann, Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences:
With two universities and 20,000
students, Osnabrück is a young, lively and
international city. Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences
is a member of the ICCA and a pioneer in German event
management studies with an international emphasis. It has
been offering a bachelor course in Event Management in
Shanghai since 2003.

Out of the ordinary, promising, at the heart of things: Where the Rhine and the Neckar rivers fl ow, city meets country, history mingles with innovation, and economic power stands alongside cultural riches.
Rhine-Neckar Where the Rhine and the Neckar rivers fl ow, city meets country, history mingles with innovation, and economic power stands alongside cultural riches. Wine-growing district and industrial base, established universities and state-of-the-art research laboratories, regional identity and international diversity are to be found here side by side – the region draws its strength from its contrasts.
As one of the most dynamic cultural and business areas in Europe, the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region attracts more than seven million national and international congress attendees every year. Discover the unique advantages it offers and use them to make your event special.
We offer a wide range of stunning locations, sunny spots and attractive spaces for events of all kinds. Around 200 event and conference venues, 30 of which are congress centres, have experience in hosting business events, and the 1,128 hotels in the area have well over 58,000 beds availa-ble. The region’s three biggest cities alone boast around 13,000 beds for visitors. The balmy climate allows fi gs to grow, almond trees to blossom and grapes to ripen on the banks of the Rhine. And there are no fewer than 140 castles and palaces, as well as 214 museums to discover. Not to mention the wide range of cultural events. Another advan-tage is the close proximity and excellent infrastructure – Frankfurt International Airport is just 30 minutes away, and Paris can be reached in just three hours. In short, the area offers perfect conditions for living, working, meeting and celebrating.
The Convention Bureau of the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region (spanning the three federal states of Baden-Würt-temberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hessen) was established in August 2008 as one of the fi rst regionally focussed MICE organisations with blanket coverage. As a non-profi t organi-sation, the Convention Bureau provides support and advice for anyone planning national and international conferences, congresses, exhibitions and initiatives.

Stuttgart, one of the European cities with the highest quality of life, is the cradle of mobility and the year 2011 will attract car-lovers from all over the world to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the automobile. When such an out-standing destination, an impressive venue and an excellent team come together, something very special is created: the ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart. The ICS contains state-of-the-art conference technology and can provide up to 10,000 seats.
An extremely fl exible utilization concept offers up to 33 daylit conference rooms. The ICS is a division of Landes-messe Stuttgart GmbH. Therefore planners can also benefi t from the unique exhibition halls providing 105,200 square metres of exhibition space. Ideal infrastructure is provided by the adjacent Stuttgart International Airport and excel-lent transport links to the motorway and Stuttgart’s public transport system.
Together with the New Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre, the ICS has been setting sustainable trends since it fi rst opened in October 2007. The conservative use of resources and the promotion of an environmentally responsible attitude is a central concern: 27,000 square metres of solar collectors on the roofs of Messe Stuttgart and the ICS as well as 7,000 square metres on the Bosch multi-storey car park, produce a total of 4.32 million kWh of energy per year. This is enough energy to supply approximately 1,350 four-person households for a whole year.
The Stuttgart region is one of Europe’s most innovative urban areas with Daimler, Porsche, Bosch, Trumpf, Kärcher, Märklin, WMF and many more. The city combines urbane joie-de-vivre with cosy hospitality, and an innovative and dynamic economy with high recreational value.
StuttgartProf. Dr Jens Wünsche, Hohenheim University:
“The city of Stuttgart together with
the ICS International Congress Center
Stuttgart and the Stuttgart convention
bureau, are offering excellent support and high-quality
service for our international Horticulture Conference.
I strongly recommend the ICS and I’m looking forward to
our next event there!”

Mobility in Germany: the intelligent, seamless networking of all means and modes of transport, good quality, customer-friendly service, and environmentally friendly operations. As a conference delegate you will fi nd it easy to get around, enjoying reliability and comfort at reasonable prices.
Travelling by railDeutsche Bahn – the national railway company – is one of the world’s leading transport and logistics companies, boasting 34,000km of rail networks and modern ICE trains. Together with its partners in RailTeam, the European high-speed alliance, Deutsche Bahn is internationalising its ICE network throughout Europe. For study trips before, during or after the ICCA Congress, a train journey is always a good option. In fact, nothing can beat the German trains in terms of speed and comfort when travelling from Leipzig to Berlin, Hamburg, Dresden, or even to Prague.
Travelling by airThe Star Alliance network is the offi cial carrier for the 50th ICCA Congress. Recognizing the importance of the meetings industry, Star Alliance is offering its support across its extensive domestic, continental and interconti-nental networks. Lufthansa, as a Star Alliance member, has 22 destinations in Germany and 1,760 daily take-offs and landings. Add to this the other members of Star Alliance, and a plane departs or arrives every three seconds. Lufthansa and Star Alliance are delighted to support the 50th ICCA Congress, offering delegates the utmost degree of comfort and mobility.
Getting around in the cityOne of Leipzig’s particularly attractive features is that everything is in close proximity, and it is easy to get from one place to another. Leipzig features an excellent and very reliable public transport network. The LVB Leipzig transport company, in co-operation with Omnibusverkehr Leupold buses, will guarantee an integrated, fl exible and sustainable mobility concept for delegates for the duration of the 50th ICCA Congress.
All mobility partners will make special offers and favourable terms available to ICCA delegates, all of which are listed on the ICCA 2011 Congress website.
