As you begin to consider your higher education options, we invite you to visit us at NMSU and discover why we are one of America’s Top Colleges. At NMSU, our welcoming and supportive campus community transforms lives through discovery, and I know this firsthand. I, too, experienced this transformation. As an undergraduate student many years ago, I had no idea what my future held. I was fortunate to attend a school where the campus community was focused on student success. The faculty didn’t know at the time, but they were preparing me to be the governor of the state of New Mexico, a successful businessperson and now the president of this great institution. Now, imagine what you can achieve! Here, you will find dedi-cated mentors and supportive faculty who care about your success. You will discover a high-quality education that will prepare you for your future career. We are all in this together – faculty, staff and students – because we know getting a degree is a challenge. This
academic journey takes commitment and effort, and the NMSU community will be by your side every step of the way. We also encourage our students to reach further and aspire to graduate in four years. Through effort, the use of our numerous resources and with the guidance of our caring faculty, you can do that at NMSU. Not only will you receive special recognition, but you will also get a head start to transforming your life. Become part of the Aggie family! Together, we can make your dreams come true.
Sincerely,
Garrey Carruthers, Ph.D.President

NMSU Navigators NMSU is committed to your success! That is why we continually look for new and innovative ways to help you while you are here. As a freshman, you will be assigned a Student Success Navigator, a graduate student or staff member who will help you learn about academic, per-sonal and career preparation strategies that support your academic achievement. They will answer questions, connect you with your academic colleges and campus resources, and assist with any challenges you might have as a new student. You will meet your Student Success Navigator at Aggie Welcome and Orientation. For more information on the Navigator program, go to NAVIGATORS.NMSU.EDU, or call 575-646-1580. We can’t wait to meet you!
Exploratory Students Choosing a major is a big step toward deciding who you will become after graduation. And sometimes, students are not quite ready to make that final decision. That’s OK. At NMSU, you can start as an Exploratory Student and delve into different degree options while taking courses that will help keep you on track toward earning your bachelor’s degree. During your first year at NMSU, you will choose a meta-major to explore.
Each meta-major is a broad cluster of degree programs with common academic foundations including courses such as English and math, as well as course options that facilitate the discovery of other disciplines. For detailed information on meta-majors, go to EXPLORE.NMSU.EDU. As you begin your journey, remember that academic advisors are here to assist you in developing your educational plan that will lead you to your academic, career and personal aspirations. You will meet your academic advisor during New Student Orientation. Learn about academic advising at ADVISING.NMSU.EDU.

Freshman Admission Requirements Students who meet the minimum high school course requirements listed in the chart below must meet one of the following criteria in order to be admitted:
§ Cumulative high school GPA of 2.75§ Ranked in the top 20 percent of their graduating class§ ACT composite score of 21 or SAT score of 990 (SAT score of 1060 for new format)
NMSU uses combined scores from the critical verbal and math portions of the SAT for admission and scholarship purposes. NMSU will be taking scores from the traditional SAT and the new SAT format, which was launched March 2016.
Note: All entering freshmen must submit official ACT or SAT scores before final admission is granted. ACT code=2638, SAT=4531
Applicants who meet all the requirements listed above will be offered admission to NMSU. An applicant who does not meet all the requirements may also be offered admission if a review of their additional information indicates that the student would be successful at NMSU. We encourage all students to apply for admission to NMSU. When reviewing the admissibility of students, we consider many factors, including high school GPA, test scores, dual-credit coursework, leadership experience, community involvement and other accomplishments. Applicants may be asked for additional information, including academic letters of
recommendation, in support of their application.
Aggie Pathway In the Aggie Pathway to the Baccalaureate Program, our system of five campuses works together to navigate you toward a bachelor’s degree – even if you initially don’t meet admission requirements to the university. § 24 credits, in addition to any required developmental courses
§ 2.50 cumulative college GPA
Students participating in the Aggie Pathway program can attend academic, cultural and athletic events on the NMSU Las Cruces campus. Students enrolling through NMSU Doña Ana have access to on-campus housing and dining. For more information, please visit our website at AGGIEPATHWAY.NMSU.EDU or call 575-646-8011.

Priscilla BloomquistPROFESSOR’S
HOSPITALITY REACHES
BEYOND CLASSROOM
Priscilla Bloomquist, a professor in the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management, was on the ground floor of what ultimately became one of the top programs in the country. Almost 30 years ago, Bloomquist made her way from Wisconsin to Las Cruces to assist in starting the now-famed HRTM program – the only such program in the state of New Mexico.
Her teaching awards are many and publications great, but her greatest impact has been the way in which she has challenged students to become more than they ever dreamed of being.
Take for instance Catrina Miyazaki With Bloomquist as a mentor, this recent grad was able to complete her HRTM bachelor’s along with two minors (marketing and business administration) in four years.
“NOW THAT I’M STARTING MY CAREER, I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT WITHOUT PRICILLA, I WOULD BE VERY LOST. HER PASSION IS APPRECIATED BY MANY, AND I KNOW I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE SHE HAS TRULY INFLUENCED,” CATRINA SAID.

Students with a passion for social equality have found a phenomenal teacher and mentor in Neil Harvey, government professor and department head. Originally from the United Kingdom, Harvey has been teaching at NMSU for more than 20 years, empowering students with the tools and knowledge to be able to make a difference in communities – especially for people suffering from injustices.
He specializes in comparative politics, Latin America, Mexico and the U.S.-Mexico border, making NMSU and Las Cruces a perfect fit for Harvey.
Throughout the years, many students have been influenced by Harvey, inspiring them to carve their own path to success. Ismael Torres ’17 is one of those students.
“HIS COMMITMENT TO MY ACADEMIC SUCCESS AND PERSONAL GROWTH HAS SHAPED MY EXPERIENCE AT NMSU AND HAS HELPED ME DISCOVER A PASSION FOR ACADEMIA,” ISMAEL SAID.

Add to Your Success As you begin to calculate your next move, just know we will be there every step of the way. Our financial aid advisors will guide you through the financial aid process and help you find the best option that fits your needs. Grants, scholarships, work-study, waivers and student loans are available. Call 575-646-4105 or 877-278-8586, email [email protected] or visit us at FA.NMSU.EDU for more information.
Begin Here Start by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at FAFSA.ED.GOV. Apply early! Deadlines are usually early in the year. Priority deadline for some limited funds is March 1. Make sure to review your Student Aid Report (SAR), which is sent after the FAFSA has been completed. Your SAR contains the information reported on your FAFSA and includes your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The EFC, a measure of your family’s financial situation, is used to determine your eligibility for federal student aid. Review your SAR information and make corrections or changes online at FAFSA.ED.GOV, if necessary. The school(s) you list on your FAFSA will get your SAR data electronically.
Award Notification The award letter is your notification of aid for the upcoming academic year. You can access the NMSU electronic award letter to accept or decline your awards at MY.NMSU.EDU.
Terms of Your Award§ You must be classified as a degree-seeking student at NMSU to be eligible for financial aid. Students who are non-degree status are not eligible for financial aid.
§ Your financial aid is awarded based on the information provided on your FAFSA. Financial aid awards are subject to change or cancellation due to changes in laws, regulations, appropriations, changes reported or discovery of data error.
§ If you receive any financial assistance from an outside source that is not included in your award letter, you must inform Financial Aid and Scholarship Services as soon as possible.
§ Check your MY.NMSU.EDU email account throughout the semester and during breaks. Official notifications that require timely responses will be sent only to your official NMSU email address.
Your Award Timeline If you are awarded a grant, scholar-ship, waiver, or student loan, funds will be automatically credited to your account during the first week of school (funds will be applied to charges owed). If there are excess funds, NMSU will forward the funds to your direct deposit account or issue you a check. Submitting a late application may result in funds being delayed. Part of your financial aid package may include a student loan. There are three types of Direct Loans: Subsidized,
Unsubsidized and PLUS. To accept a Federal Direct Loan in your aid package, go to the Student tab in MY.NMSU.EDU. Federal regulations specify that all students who are borrowing a Federal Direct Loan for the first time, or the first time at NMSU, must complete Entrance Counseling and a Master Promissory Note (MPN) before any loans will be processed. Visit FA.NMSU.EDU/LOANS to learn more about student loans.
Satisfactory Academic Progress Federal regulations require all students receiving federal financial aid to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) in order to maintain eligibility for financial aid. Students are evaluated at the end of each semester in order to determine if Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements are being met. SAP requirements include:
§ GPA Requirement: As an undergraduate student, you must maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
§ Completion Rate: You must complete 70 percent of all hours attempted.
§ Maximum Time Frame: You must complete your program of study within 150 percent of the published length of the degree.
If SAP requirements are not met, it is possible to lose eligibility for federal financial aid. Visit FA.NMSU.EDU/SAP for more information on Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Robert L. SteinerPROFESSOR IS HEART
OF PROGRAM
At NMSU, mentorship doesn’t stop with undergraduate students. Guidance and support is available to any student at any stage of their academic career. For instance, students seeking to pursue a master’s degree in applied statistics can rest assured that they will receive the utmost care from Robert L. Steiner, professor of applied statistics.
Steiner, who is also program director, is the first person students are in contact with. His patience and gentle demeanor make it easy for students to approach him with questions or concerns. These are two excellent traits for a person who wears many hats within one department – he is a teacher, advisor and a mentor.
“DR. STEINER IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF OUR AMAZING MENTORS HERE AT NMSU. NO MATTER WHICH FIELD OF STUDY YOU ARE IN, YOU WILL FIND MENTORS WHO ARE PASSIONATE AND DEDICATED TO WHAT THEY DO,” SAID JUNXIN HUANG ’17.

OUR MENTORS CARE
Our students come from all over the globe, eager to make a difference. Our faculty members share vast expertise in numerous areas – global leadership styles, integrating indigenous ethics into business practices and marketing healthy food and lifestyles are just a few. DISCOVER YOURCOMMUNITY
First-Year Residential Experience At NMSU, we want to make sure that students maximize their success while at college. Our goal is to provide valuable resources and opportunities in order for every student to reach their potential, and that is why we have made a change to our requirements. Starting in August 2017, first-time, full-time undergraduate students admitted to the Las Cruces campus will be required to live in a university-operated residence hall for the first academic year, or two semesters. Research has shown that when students live on campus, they gain many more benefits and rewards than those living off campus. Students living on campus are more likely to:§ connect with campus services and take advantage of the many helpful resources available,§ participate in extracurricular activities/events that add to a greater college experience,§ perform better academically,§ graduate on time,§ stay on the right path to success without interruptions,§ create bonds with faculty and students that extend past graduation,§ explore a wider range of ideas and cultures,§ develop stronger interpersonal and communication skills, and§ be on time to class! On-campus living is convenient, allowing more prep time for class assignments.
Detailed information can be found on our website, HOUSING.NMSU.EDU/FYRE, as well as approved exemptions for students with unique circumstances such as living with immediate family; residing with spouse, domestic partner or dependents; and financial or medical hardship that may prevent them from living on campus.

Debra KnappHELPING STUDENTS
FIND THE RIGHT PATH
Students who are moved by the rhythm of dance will gain a worldly education from Debra Knapp, a professor of dance at NMSU. A celebrated educator, Knapp has been on the dance faculties of several universities around the country and at the Palucca School Academy of Performing Arts in Dresden, Germany.
She is a professional dancer, choreographer and producer, having traveled the globe to impart her knowledge of and passion for dance. But her biggest impact is felt right here on campus. For Knapp, “being a mentor is about being open to the curiosity of students and being in wonder of their enthusiasm and passion.”
As she pursues her degree in dance, Carley Casey ’17 has found an outstanding mentor in Knapp.
“SHE REALLY DOES TAKE US ALL UNDER HER WING – GUIDING US AND CHALLENGING US. SHE PROVIDES US WITH THE TOOLS WE NEED TO GROW IN AND OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM,” CARLEY SAID.
