Discipleship ClassesNovember through January 2013 • 11:10a - 12:00p
A Primer in Presbyterianism•James Duncan•A213Many of us have come to New Covenant from other denominations or unchurched back-grounds, and now we find ourselves members of a Presbyterian church. How did that happen? What does it mean to be Presbyterian? In this class, we’ll explore the essential features of our denomination. We’ll cover practices like infant baptism and church government, beliefs like sovereignty and predestination, as well as key people and moments in the history of our church. While not forgetting that Christ unites all believers in him, we’ll look at how and why our beliefs differ from other major denominations, including other Presbyterian denominations.
Getting More from The Bible and Getting it Right•David Rountree•A101 God writes to us with many different kinds of writings. Most often he chooses narrative and tells the most interesting and wonderful stories that inspire and instruct. Other times he speaks through the lyrics of songs, personal letters, historical records, predictive prophecies, parables and proverbs. He is brilliant but because he reveals himself and his will in such a variety of ways, we need to keep our focus on how to rightly read and study his word to get from it what he intended. Getting More from The Bible and Getting it Right will give us the tools to dili-gently present ourselves to God as scripture workmen who handle accurately the word of truth without any need to be ashamed. Not only will we gain the tools to become a good interpreter of the Word of God but in the process we will be exploring many of the more difficult, exciting, and interesting passages of God’s revelation to develop our skill at understanding the scripture rightly. Come and be enlightened, equipped, and encouraged!
The Gospel of John•Mark Burchette & Joe Noblitt•A211Have you ever thought that the Christian life is too difficult? How can I live out my faith at work? How can I be a loving parent? How can I be a godly husband or wife? How can I glorify God in all of these areas in my life when I fail so often? The answers to these questions are found in the book of John. This Gospel teaches us that our only hope in this world and the next is Christ. John 15:5 says, “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” When we strive to live the Christian life on our own we fall flat on our faces. A fruitful life is produced when we abide in Christ instead of ourselves. Come and learn from John how to abide!
Capstone (9th-12th)David Reiter & Joey Thames•B105 (Youth Room)A combination of topical study and book-of-the-bible survey, our high school students will hear from a rotation of gifted speakers bringing a message of grace every Sunday with special em-phasis on group discussion and panel forums.
Cornerstone (6th-8th)Dexter Williams, Mike Settle & Owen Hall•A214“WISE UP - How the Old Testament poetical books relate to our lives today.”

Christmas giving is here! If over the next four years all of us give one month’s extra 5the we will com-‐pletely pay off our church mortgage and be completely out of debt as a church. Wa-‐hoo! We do not need the same amount from everyone but the same sacrifice. What-‐ever you normally give to the Lord through New Covenant Church in a typical month, that is the amount extra we need you to give as your yearly Christmas GiF for Christ. This giving will be our Christmas giF for Christ each of the next four years or un5l our mortgage is paid off.
You can do your Christmas giving any5me by designa5ng your extra giF as “my Christmas GiF for Christ.” During the month of December we will give you an addi-‐5onal way to give by decora5ng several boxes as our present for Christ—one under the church Christmas tree or on the hospitality table and one on the Sanctuary stage. Please feel free to put your offering in these boxes, in the offering plates, or give through any other method.
Giving an en5re extra month of our 5the will not be an easy task but if it were easy it might not be what God would want. It is the place of true sacrifice for Jesus and the place of his highest honor to give beyond ease and convenience (see Mark 12:41-‐44).
Please don’t leave your brothers and sisters in Christ hanging on this. Embrace the challenge to give a special sacrificial giF equivalent to one month’s 5the of what God normally pours out on you. Let us together honor Christ this Christmas season with an offering that demonstrates Christ’s mission as our first and highest priority.
A"er coming to the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother, and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to
Him gi"s of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. —Ma?hew 2:11

New Covenant School
It has brought great delight for me to be a part of the Missions Elective Class this semester. As a third grade teacher, I have especially loved getting a couple of hours with the “grown-up kids” twice a week.
On Tuesday, December 10th, our class has the opportunity to serve at The Lot Project in downtown Anderson. The mission of The LOT Project is to be a platform for the body of Christ to love, pursue, and provide for the “least of these” both physically and spiritually and to see people who have been abused, neglected, angry, and oppressed be vindicated as we have been by the love of Jesus Christ. Food and Clothing is their vehicle whereby all who are searching may find life and freedom.
We will be serving the clients chili and cornbread and a brownie! We’d like to invite YOU to be a participant in this endeavor. If you would like to contribute a crock pot of chili, a pan of cornbread or brownies, or all three(!), please contact me ASAP and I will give you the details.

foundation for living.• Every teacher is committed to teaching every subject under the Lord-
ship of Christ, from the perspective of God’s sovereignty, and for the specific benefits of each child and his/her family.
• New Covenant School and its administration are accountable to its board of trustees and the elders of New Covenant Church. Biblical accountability is needed lest we fall into building our own selfish organizations that gratify our needs and promote our glory more than the needs of the students and the exaltation of Christ.
Courage:• It takes tremendous strength to stand for academic rigor over the ex-
tracurricular activities of our day. By adopting the classical model within a Christian and covenantal context, New Covenant School makes education first and primary and refuses to pass students along who are not learning to their potential.
• There are cultural obstacles at every turn today, things like global warming, women in military, homosexual marriages, etc. New Covenant doesn’t skirt the issues of life nor leave them to the un-trained mind but takes every thought captive making it obedient to God’s word whether in biology, math, music or history.
• At New Covenant School the faculty teaches from the perspective that all reality is God’s reality; that all life is worth careful study; and that every inch of this world God has created needs to be engaged for his glory and honor.
We must be multigenerational if we care about the welfare of our children and nation and the growth of God’s kingdom. New Covenant School is building future generations the way God directs and the way our nation needs. I don’t find that many places. Therefore, I find New Covenant School worthy of promotional praise, financial support, and ear-nest prayer.

All proceeds benefit Rob’s next mission trip!
Rob Cassels says that he has been playing piano and guitar all his life. And that he cannot suppress the urge to write songs that express his gratitude for all that God has done through Christ. `Thunder Fire' (2012) sees Rob on lead vocals, piano, a 1968 Hammond organ, guitars, harmonica and percussion.
The album opens with the soulful blues of the title track with twinkling piano and well-placed sprinklings of female backing vocals. "God can do anything / You better believe / Make your heart sing / Make it ring / Knock you to your knees / Shoot a bolt of lightning / hear the thunder fire". Then they unleash the searing guitar and tear it up as the good times roll in `Loves Ya To The Bone'.
There is the celebratory rock of `Resurrection Power' followed by the wonderfully ironic, laid-back `The Devil's Got The Blues'. "He knows he's gonna lose / Couldn't work out his plan / All because of just one man".
Rhythm & Blues takes the other side of the tracks and rejoices in the positive, life-affirming experiences. Rob's gritty vocals gives it a down-to-earth humbleness. Those who like Southern Rock with strong spiritual lyrics will love this CD.
Reasons I like New Covenant School—David Rountree
Every week I receive requests to support some very good ministries, missionaries or agencies. As you know, we cannot support everything. We have to make choices. Patti and I have homeschooled our three children so supporting a privately funded Christian; Covenantal and Classical school does not necessarily provide us immediate benefit. Nevertheless, we have prayed for and supported New Covenant School for over twenty-five years. Here are just a few of the reasons why it is an “easy choice” for us . . .
Community:• When we started homeschooling we frequently were criticized for
not providing our children with community—proper socialization. Community is a huge factor in student development. At New Covenant School community is taken very seriously.
• Every teacher and staff knows their students by name and prays for their spiritual well-being. Every primary community influence is one that is planned to build the students into disciples of Christ.
• Every student has at least one believing parent or guardian and a family that is active in the body of Christ. As a community we are all striving together according to the word of God to be followers of Christ in every calling and area of life.
• Without encouragement most of us could not make it through the day. At New Covenant School, every student is being daily encour-aged through community to be complete in Christ.
• At New Covenant School no student gets lost in the shuffle. Every-one is connected to a likeminded, loving community of strength.
Coherence:• Whether through sports, drama, poetry, debate, lunch time, or the
rigors of the classroom, the aim at New Covenant is to embody the motto, “Making students complete in Christ.”
• Some students are extremely gifted in languages, others in math, oth-ers in logic and science, and others in various other areas. Regard-less of the student’s gift mix, at New Covenant they are grounded in their identity in Christ and taught to develop a biblical frame of ref-erence for all that they think and do. Imagine the benefits of this

Ron, Elizabeth, Leila, Wren & Townes Sconyers
Where are you originally from? Ron - Chester, SC; Elizabeth - Bartow, FL; Leila, Wren & Townes - Anderson, SC.
What made you decide to join New Covenant? Ron - My children attend New Covenant School. Due to changes in philosophy/theology/biblical teaching within the denomination we were currently members of, we were feeling called to make a change. The kids requested we visit NCC. We’ve been visiting since February and I feel this is the church home the Lord is calling us to. Elizabeth - For the past 9 months our family has been visiting New Covenant Church. In that time, I have seen a change in all of us. The Holy Spirit has been at work and for that I am grateful. I believe in the doctrines and teaching of NCC. I desire to become a member and raise my children in a covenantal relationship with the NCC congregation. Leila - I decided to join New Covenant because I wanted to be a part of the church I love. Wren - I want to be a part of the church I love. Townes - Because it is awesome.
How did you come to know the Lord? Ron - I grew up in a close-knit christian family. I don’t ever remember a time when I was not aware of God’s love for me. I don’t know that I can pinpoint an exact moment when I was redeemed. I would say the significance of God’s grace is something I continue to grow in appreciation of and will probably never fully be able to grasp it. Elizabeth - I came to know the Lord at a young age and am thankful to call Him my Lord and Savior. I need Him every hour every minute of every day. Leila - I came to know the Lord when I was in kindergarten. Wren - In first grade Mrs. Burchette was teaching us Bible and telling us about when she asked Jesus into her heart and I decided I wanted to ask Him into my heart, so I did. Townes - Two years ago I asked Jesus into my heart because I don’t want to go to Hell and I want to to go to heaven and be with Jesus.
What are some of your hobbies? Ron - Cycling, hunting, fishing, basically being outdoors. Eliza-beth - I enjoy spending time with family, cooking, and travel. Leila - I play tennis, dance at ASD, and I also enjoy singing and hanging out with my friends. Wren - I enjoy gymnastics, basketball, and art. Townes - I like to play, hunt with my dad, and play sports.
Where do you work/what do you do/where do you go to school/what grade are you in/what is your favorite subject? Ron - I am the senior partner at Anderson Family Dental Care. I am a general practice dentist. Elizabeth - I graduated from Erskine College and the Medical University of South Carolina, I was a pharmacist and currently a stay at home mom. Leila - I go to New Covenant School, I am in the 7th grade and my favorite subject is History. Wren - I go to school at New Covenant. I’m in the 5th grade and my favorite subject is History.
