TRANSFORMED SERVICE Mark 10: 43 – 45

'Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many'.

TRANSFORMED SERVICE• Has this attitude of Service largely eluded

many modern churches & leaders?

• “Can you imagine a life so lost in benefitting others that your personal needs & wants don't play a big role in your thoughts?

Mark 10: 32 - 34• 32They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him. 33“We are going up to Jerusalem,” he said, “and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, 34who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise.”

Mark 10: 35 - 3735Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do for us whatever we ask.”36“What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.37They replied, “Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.”38“You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said. “Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?”39“We can,” they answered.Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, 40but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared.”

What can we get v What can we give

• "Like James & John, most of us must face our pride in order to serve as Jesus served".

• "Pride and competition are basic elements in Satan's strategy”.

Page 9: Discipleship 6

SUMMARY• If you want to be great, don't request an esteemed position. Instead go to the end of the line & serve.

Transformed Influence"Your ATTITUDE should be the same as that of Christ Jesus”.

• Philippians 2: 5• Attitude

(phronos) can also be translated mindset or worldview.

“A Radical Encounter with God”, • “We are no more than products of chance plus time, living in a cold, meaningless universe in which there is no God. Only the choices we make as individuals can add any significance whatsoever to our small unimportant lives, and there are no moral codes to guide those choices. When you’re dead you’re dead, so live for today and the experiences found within it”.

CONCLUSION• Following the way of Christ is not an easy calling, but as Christ followers it's exactly what we are called to.

• The alternative is hopelessness.
