+Song

We have chosen this song because constructing a music video

to the indie rock genre is what we have been researching, this

means we know the conventions so we will be able to include

them into our music video.

We have also chosen it because we enjoy the song and have

been able to thought-shower numerous amounts of ideas and

themes for the narrative.

+Props

A magazine with Amy’s face in it for the first few shots. This is

because the line “she had a face straight out a magazine” is

used and in the relationship between visuals and lyrics is a

common feature in the genre.

A guitar. There is always instruments being held or played in

the genres music video.

A note.

Pictures of Amy to stick on the wall.

+Costumes

Many music videos in this genre have had the male

characters/artists in plain clothing that is usually black or white.

We will use this in our own music video and Alyssa will be in all

black clothing to also foreshadow that her character isn’t the

protagonist in this music video.

Also the female character usually wears feminine colours and

to emphasise the fact that she is the desirable girl in this music

video, she will be wearing girly clothing.

+Actors/Cast

For the cast we have decided to use only ourselves. This is because we know we will be dedicated to making it as good as it can be and also it means we don’t need to depend on other people outside of our group.

We have used a female lead as it is common in indie rock music videos as Goodwins theory of « the notion of looking » is featuredmultiple times in these videos, therefore it will help us establish ourselves in the genre. It has been used in videos such as The Black Keys – Tighten Up and The Killers – Shot at the Night

For the male lead Alyssa will play the character. This is becasuethe shots used for this character are either point of view shots or are from behind to hide the identity.

+Locations

Our first location is in Crick. Lots of music videos in the indie

rock genre are based in urban environments, however, to

challenge the convention, we are setting it in a rural area.

There will still be people around and it will remain relatively

busy but the place will be more green-spaced.

The idea of a more urban environments being developed into

rural has been used in indie rock band Two Door Cinema Club

– Sleep Alone, where there are shots based in forests and

Franz Ferdinand - Stand On The Horizon which is based on the

coast.

Page 16: DIRECTORS PITCH - THE 1975, ROBBERS

+Locations (1)

Our second location will be based in school. This is because a

lot of indie rock music is for teenagers therefore the artists base

the music video in relatable backgrounds.

This has been shown in music videos such as Nirvana – Smells

Like Teen Spirit, The Ramones – Rock & Roll High School and

Nada Surf – Popular.
