We listen carefully to clients’ needs and have an excellent understanding of working to specification without compromising the results - delivering on time and on budget.

For simplicity, our services are grouped into three categories: project design, construction, and decoration.

Design services can be included as part of a complete work package or can be ordered separately and can include all necessary permits, licenses and statutory approvals. If a client requires space alterations, our team of construction experts can build, modify or remove physical structures, as specified by the detailed project plan. We work on all aspects of construction including the building services - ventilation and air-conditioning, electrical/IT and plumbing. Whether it involves reworking electrical subsystems, stripping all materials down to the frame and rebuilding them, or stabilizing a weak foundation, we are equipped to handle any construction scenario.

We can also assist clients interested in adding vibrance to an old space or decorating a newly constructed/renovated area. We can provide all services related to decorative design, including the selection and construction of custom furniture to best suit the client in their environment.

Before carrying out any work, we do extensive feasibility analysis (surveys, tests, and research) and conceptualizing to ensure that we have a complete picture of the end goal. Included in this process is the creation of detailed design drawings and images that clearly show how the finished project will look. The images here show some examples of our previous projects.

Our vast network of suppliers and our team of skilled craftsmen and carpenters ensure we can deliver anything required to add that extra touch of elegance to any space. We are also experts in home automation, home cinema and audio visual rooms.

Over the years, we have had the pleasure and privilege of working with a wide range of clients - from large private banking institutions that needed a complete workspace redesign to private clients looking to give their homes a comprehensive makeover. Our list of clients extends to international contractors and builders, legal firms, private banks, brokerages/trading houses, restaurants, coffee bars, and hotels. In Gibraltar we have recently completed projects for international law and banking companies.

Q; How much of my “search history” or files could be easily recovered if deleted?

Well first let’s establish the “type” of delete, that is to say some deletion types can be recovered, depending on the time, money or effort thrown at the problem. Many operating systems, file managers, and other software provide a facility where a file is not immediately deleted when the user requests that action. Instead, the file is moved to a holding area, to allow the user to easily revert a mistake. Similarly, many software products automatically create backup copies of files that are being edited, to allow the user to restore the original version, or to recover from a possible crash (autosave feature).

Even when an explicit deleted file retention facility is not provided or when the user does not use it, operating systems do not actually remove the contents of a file when it is deleted. Instead, they simply remove the file’s entry from the file system directory, because this requires less work and is therefore faster. The contents of the file—the actual data—remain on the storage medium. The data will remain there until the operating system reuses the space for new data. In some systems, enough file system metadata are also left behind to enable easy un-deletion by commonly available utility software. Even when undelete has become impossible, the data, until it has been overwritten, can be read by software that reads disk sectors directly. Computer forensics often employs such software.

GibGeeks Corner

Likewise, reformatting, repartitioning or reimaging a system is not always guaranteed to write to every area of the disk, though all will cause the disk to appear empty or, in the case of reimaging, empty except for the files present in the image, to most software. Finally, even when the storage medium is overwritten, physical properties of the medium may make it possible to recover the previous contents. In most cases however, this recovery is not possible by just reading from the storage device in the usual way, but requires using laboratory techniques such as disassembling the device and directly accessing/reading from its components.

“clearing your search history may not be enough to remove the data”

So, clearing your search history may not be enough to remove the data, it may be necessary to use 3rd party software like CCleaner to remove data permanently, however even using this method it is important to remember that we are still in the basic file deletion phase, a much more thorough method would be to delete the data, then overwrite the data area multiple times using the “Drive Wipe” utility. Secure Delete is another software variety which carries out many of the functions of CCleaner.

Well, I hope some of the above is of use to you, see you next time at the GibGeeks Corner - www.

A fruit of the fifth generation of the Valdemar family gave birth to this incredible wine, which created a new style of Rioja wine in their new cellar (Inspiracion Valdemar). The Valdemar family never ceases to surprise us with new varieties of wines; on this occasion they present us with a variety which is still undergoing experiment (Maturana). This new creation is a job which is being undertaken by the cellar together with the University of the Rioja to revive this native grape which nearly became extinct.

The grape harvesting is done manually and it then gets transported to the cellar in boxes of 20kgs. This is stored on a daily basis within a refrigerated chamber, which allows them to incubate the grapes at the exact temperature desired. The selection table guarantees that only the grapes in perfect condition are selected for the cellar. They are then made in small quantities of around 800 and 15000 litres, thus permitting a high extraction of colour. The aging process takes 20 months in new French oak barrels.

Everyone wants to enjoy their boats and make the very best of the facilities right on our doorstep.

If a boat owner requires proof of competence when visiting another European country the ICC will frequently suffice, this is often the case locally, without it you could face problems with the marina staff and authorities plus this licence may be essential for your insurance. Providing you are a resident in Gibraltar or the UK you can apply for your ICC after having achieved your Powerboat Level 2 which is a two day course costing £250 for locals, or half day direct assessment route for £200 if you’re already an experienced powerboater.

We recommend the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course route to the ICC rather than direct assessment since renewal after five years does not require a new assessment.

Operating on our new and thrilling Jeanneau Cap Camarat 7 meter powerboat with a cruising speed of 24 knots this course will be fun as well as useful. The boat is also available for trips round the

Bay, or take a picnic lunch and anchor off one of the beaches – the sunbathing deck is a fabulous place to relax whilst the kids swim or fish.

For those who like sailing yachts and have always dreamed of having a go, why not book one of our sunset cruises for a perfect romantic night or an overnight trip over to Ceuta to take in the sights of Morocco.

For those seasoned mariners we offer all types of RYA Sailing courses and also courses to assist individuals in securing employment in the maritime sector. For all your on-the-water needs

Our skin has 5 layers, when we use our moisturising cream at home, only the top layer benefits.Professional treatments starting with microdermabrasion removes allthe dead cells and replenishes the “new” skins deepest layers with vitamins. With a mesotherapy infusion your face will glow right away.

Always take care of your skin inside and outside.

Unfortunately normal skin does not exist anymore

A few tips to help keep your skin beautiful:-Drink a few glasses of water every day

- Evening primrose oil capsules contain a high dose of natural vitamin E, which is a great antioxidant, and also nourishes your skin

- Vitamin C (500mg) taken daily does not just boost our immune system but increases collagen in the skin.

Page 53: Directmag Issue 54

53

- SPF50 recommended not just in the summer but also during the winter months. Sunshine is dangerous between 11am-5pm but before and after these hours, a daily dose of about 20 minutes using a good sun protector is a great way to increase vitamin D.

The Best Gift for the Ones You Love

Total Cigarettes

Electronic cigarettes are amazing products which give smokers a real alternative to traditional cigarettes. Total Cigarettes (TC), established in Gibraltar in 2009, has thousands of happy customers, all over the world, enjoying the freedom a TC electronic cigarette gives, allowing them to ‘smoke’ almost anywhere.

When you take a draw on your Total Cigarette (TC), such as the simple ‘TC Flight II’, you receive a nicotine throat hit, much like with a traditional cigarette. As you only exhale a water based vapour that resembles smoke, it is a much cleaner and safer alternative to tobacco cigarettes, which contain over 4000 toxins and poisons in every ‘puff’. It is also safer for your family, children and friends as there is no second-hand smoke, no smell, and, they are even more cost effective than traditional cigarettes due to the affordable refills (E.g. TC Flight II cartridges: £4.95 for 100 cigarette equivalent).

Sendero:The Guadiaro EstuaryThe Guadiaro Estuary & Natural ParkThe Natural Park is located in San Roque, within the Sotogrande urbanisation that lies on the eastern side of the Straits and on the west bank of the Río Guadiaro, covering approximately 27 hectares. Within the boundaries of the reserve, there is a small lagoon with extensive reed beds and a few marshy areas that are all attractive to birds and other wildlife.

The lagoon area is home to the exotic-looking Purple Gallinules, little bitterns, reed warblers and the more ‘exotic’ visitors that stop by during migration or over the winter season.

Just inside the park there is a bird observation hide that overlooks the lagoon, marshland and extensive reed beds, check at the security gate for access to the hut.

The Estuary’s location consists mainly of an old sediment island, as well as a small intertidal area, the beach shoreline and the central and western channels. Its vegetation corresponds to that of the scarce tidal form that characterises the Mediterranean and therefore, presents a vegetation that totally lacks halophytes (contrary to the case in other wetlands). A great strategic value as it’s the only estuary between the mouths of River Palmones and Guadalhorce, approx. 115km of coastline.

Page 61: Directmag Issue 54

61

Purple Gallinule / Calamón Común / Porphyrio PorphyrioScarce resident in wet areas, used to breed in La Janda, though very scarce. Later new records were recorded at the lagoon in Sotogrande, where the birds wintered and from then onwards the species was regularly seen in the River Guadiaro estuary and the lagoon in Sotogrande. The species consolidated its colony and expanded to the region of La Janda. ID: Dark purple head, neck, and underside, green back, red bill tipped with yellow, light blue forehead. Legs yellow and feet with extremely long toes help it walk on lily pads without sinking.

Little Bittern / Avetorillo Común / Ixobrychus minutusScarce summer visitor found in areas of reed beds. Wintering birds have been seen over recent years. They became extinct as a breeder when La Janda dried out, but started again at the beginning of the 90’s at the River Guadiaro estuary and La Janda. ID: The smallest heron, with highly contrasting plumage. In flight, large buff white wing patches. Juveniles have cryptic plumage, similar to the Eurasian bittern.

Reed Warbler / Carricero Común / Acrocephalus scirpaceusA common summer visitor to marshes and wetlands, and abundant during migration in many habitats. ID: No distinctive marks, buff white under parts, red-brown rump but variable leg colour; pointed head with flat forehead that emphasises the length of the bill; indistinct eye-ring and eyebrow.

St Michael’s CaveThis beautiful natural grotto was prepared as a hospital during WWII, yet nowadays it is a unique auditorium. There is also a lower segment that provides the more adventurous visitor with an experience never to be forgotten, however, these tours need to be pre-arranged.

Apes’ DenOne of Gibraltar’s most important tourist attractions, the Barbary Apes are actually tail-less monkeys. We recommend that you do not carry any visible signs of food or touch these animals as they may bite. There is a maximum fine of £500 for feeding the monkeys.

The Great Siege TunnelsThe Great Siege Tunnels are an impressive defence system devised by man. Excavated during the Great Siege of 1779-83, these tunnels were hewn into the rock with the aid of the simplest of tools and gunpowder.

World War II Tunnels – Rock and FortressDuring WWII an attack on Gibraltar was imminent. The answer was to construct a massive network of tunnels in order to build a fortress inside a fortress.

Military Heritage CentreA fascinating array of artefacts of military history housed in Princess Caroline’s Battery.

Gibraltar, a City Under Siege ExhibitionProbably one of the first buildings ever constructed by the British in Gibraltar. Undoubtedly the most important aspect of the building is the graffiti that can be seen on the walls, the earliest of which dates back to 1726.

Moorish CastleThe fortifications on and around the site of the Moorish Castle were first built in 1160. The Tower of Homage, its main feature, dates primarily from about 1333 AD when Abu’l Hassan recaptured Gibraltar from the Spanish.

Catalan Bay VillageFirst settled by Genoese fishermen in the 18th century, the village was named after it was considered a haven for Catalans fleeing from Napoleon’s invasion of Spain in the 19th century.

The MarinasThere are two marinas in Gibraltar, Ocean Village and Queensway Quay, offering excellent berthing facilities, shops and restaurants.

Dolphin WatchingVisit the dolphins in their natural environment in the Bay of Gibraltar. Boat tours depart from Marina Bay / Ocean Village and the Ferry Terminal.

Alameda Botanic Gardens and Wildlife ParkThis beautiful green haven, with its plants and trees is indeed a hidden gem. Also located within the gardens is a Wildlife Conservation park.

Shrine of Our Lady of Europe and MuseumLocated at the southern end of the Rock, this shrine was originally a mosque and converted into a chapel by the Spaniards in 1462. There is a museum at the Shrine that depicts its long history.

The LighthouseThe Gibraltar Lighthouse is the only one regulated by Trinity House outside the UK. It dates back to 1841 and stands 49 metres above sea level with a range of some 37 kilometres.
