Join our naturalist guide on an outdoor, Hands-on, beachfront expedition exploring the seagrass flats of Key Biscayne directly off the beach. Adults and children will collect ocean animals such as: seahorses, pipefish, snapper, crabs, parrotfish, sea cucumbers and urchins. The naturalist will explain how these animals survive and how important they are to the ecology of South Florida. You will get an up-close and personal look at these dynamic creatures before the animals are returned to their ocean home at the conclusion of the program. This will be an event you and your guests will never forget!

All equipment is provided The program lasts two hours, and then the group

returns to our shady courtyard to celebrate with the refreshments that you provide for your guests. An annual Seahorse membership will be given to the party host. The Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne

Nature Center has been reaching thousands of children and adults each year with our

environmental educational programs since 1971.

We are proud to continue Marjory’s vision for a nature center by the sea.Our facilities, exhibits and expanded tours allows us to better reach all the young citizens of Miami-Dade County and encourage them to preserve our magnificent and imperiled ecosystems that make Florida like no other place on earth.

Our beautiful location in the Bear Cut Preserve in Crandon Park, Key Biscayne makes your experience unforgettable. Key Biscayne is a sedimentary barrier island with the Atlantic Ocean on the east side and Biscayne Bay on the west. Your tour will introduce you to the various ecosystems of the Key including the dunes, mangroves, coastal hammock and seagrass bed community.

The island is filled with rare and beautiful plants like the beach peanut, Biscayne prickly ash and the coontie. We have herons, ospreys and many brightly colored butterflies. The beach is an important nesting ground for the sea turtles. Our seagrass beds provide home for mangrove snapper, parrot fish, crabs, shrimp, sea stars and puffer fish. The Bear Cut Preserve is a window back to the wilderness that was once South Florida.

Cost A donation of $350 to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center for you and 25 guests. There is a $10 charge for each additional guest. The event has a 4 hour maximum stay, with a $75 charge for each additional hour there-after. A $50 clean up fee will be charged if area is not left clean by host.

ChaperonesThere must be one chaperone (over 18 years old) that will join us in the water for every 5 children.
