ANNUAL REPORT 2018-2019

Dear Catholic Foundation Friends:Thanks be to God and you, our donors and supporters, for yet another amazing year!

This last year was a wonderful mix of both old and new. Not only did we return to the Western Slope for a dinner event, but we also held our first ever fundraising dinner solely for the benefit of Catholic education. In carrying out our mission throughout the diocese, we proudly awarded nearly $135,000 in grants to parishes and missions, Catholic organizations and Catholic schools, and an additional $46,000 in humanitarian grants to many worthy organizations. Please look through this Annual Report for more details on these grants. Perhaps your parish or local Catholic organization received a grant.

Our diocese spreads far and wide across Southern Colorado, so we make every effort to get out and meet our supporters in person, and to welcome those who are just now learning about our work. Here is just a small sample of our efforts over the year …

We kicked off our events in August by hosting a dinner in Grand Junction, An Evening With Bishop Stephen J. Berg at St. Joseph’s Parish Hall. Over 100 people attended from parishes in Grand Junction, Ouray, Montrose, Gunnison and Fruita. Everybody enjoyed a wonderful dinner, followed by an inspirational talk on vocations from Fr. Carl Wertin. Bishop Berg then shared his vision and strategic plan for the diocese, which included a special preview of our diocese becoming The Diocese of the Little Way in the spirit of our co-patroness, St. Therese of Lisieux.

Heading back to Pueblo in the fall, the Catholic Foundation held a dinner event at the Union Depot with Bishop Stephen J. Berg as our featured speaker and Mr. Michael Salardino as guest speaker. The evening was dedicated to raising awareness for the special place Catholic education holds in our faith. Close to 150 gathered together to listen to both Bishop Berg and Mike Salardino reminisce about their days in Catholic school and how it shaped their lives. Thanks to a $12,500 matching gift opportunity from an anonymous donor, we not only met the match but went on to raise a total of $40,000. Thanks be to God!

Our last event took place in May at the Pueblo Convention Center, which featured radio and sports personality Dave Logan as keynote speaker. About 200 people thoroughly enjoyed Dave Logan’s talk about his professional football days as well as his past and present coaching career, especially his time at Mullen Catholic High School. Not only did he attest to the value of a faith filled academic environment, but he wholeheartedly encouraged guests to support our Pueblo Catholic schools.

The Catholic Foundation is thankful for all of you, our faithful donors, who make our programs possible. On behalf of Bishop Stephen J. Berg and the Board of Directors, thank you in advance for your continued support in the coming year.Yours in Christ,

Steven S. CharginExecutive Director
