RESIN INFILTRATION FOR WHITE SPOTS

6372 Views - Jan 2016 The etiology behind hypomineralized enamel can be genetic, acquired and idiopathic, and the extend ofthe lesions is time dependent. Due to hypomineralization the light behaves differently giving anappearance of white spots and when we are referring to the anterior teeth the smile esthetics iscompromised. For the treatment of these anomalies many options are provided and the clinician shouldalways chose the minimal invasive technique. This case is about a 23 year old student visited the graduateprogram of operative dentistry in Athens seeking for a smile enhancement. Direct resin restoration wouldbe an appropriate treatment plan but it would require enamel removal. Before being subtractive the resininfiltration technique can be used as an ultraconservative approach.

When managing white spots, an ultraconservative approach is needed in order to prevent toothdestruction following the concept of minimal invasive dentistry. The resin infiltration technique is a verypromising microinvasive method to preserve enamel tha is demineralized

The resin was left set for 3 minutes and then it was light cured for 40 seconds.
