Spice are working with Dimensions an organisation that provide support to people with learning disabilities and autism. The pilot project is taking place with Dimensions Cymru based in the East of Cardiff. The people supported by Dimensions in Cardiff live in supported housing, the aim of the programme is to see the people Dimensions support develop new friendships and have people in their lives that are not paid to be there, for people supported to access new activities and try new things and to form links with the local community. Dimensions as an organisation have been fantastic in supporting time credits and are very pro active. The first time credits were earned in December by attending a regional advisory forum meeting, since then people have gone on to earn time credits in lots of ways. Last Sunday some of the people supported by Dimensions, along with their support workers joined us at our time credit take over event at Llanelli Scarlets. They joined time credit earners from the Ferndale schools cluster and Carmarthen community members as part of a seventy strong Spice crowd. The Dimensions group had a great time, none of the group had been to a Scarlets game before and for some it was their first ever time at a rugby match. After the game most of the group joined us in the barn where we were running some activities and some of the group took part in badge making and face painting. I was really interested to hear what the group had done to earn their time credits…. Rob had wrote an article for the Dimensions newsletter Liz then earned her credits delivering the newsletters Sandra had organised a pamper evening for other residents Wendy takes part in volunteering activities twice a week and is already building up a collection of time credits Mark earned his credits by giving Wendy a lift to the game in return for 2 time credits, Mark has agreed to start giving Wendy a lift to her volunteer placements in return for time credits. We really look forward to developing more opportunities for the Dimensions group to try new activities and we hope we can soon provide more tickets for our group of rugby fans!
