4. Next, remove the platform assembly[FIGURE 4] from the machine. This isaccomplished by removing the two cap

screws located toward the center of theplatform, with the supplied 3/16” Allenwrench. Once you have the platform off themachine, disassemble the roller bracketfrom the platform[FIGURE 4] by removingthe two flat head screws, with the supplied3/32” Allen wrench.

5. Attach the new 550 CF Lower FeederAssembly (part #96002) to the platform[FIGURE 5] with the new 8-32 x 1/2” flathead socket screws and Allen wrenchprovided in the hardware package – be sureto tighten.6. Re-attach the platform and Casefeederhousing to the shaft (make sure not to forgetthe failsafe return bracket), only lightlytighten screws at this point. You will needto use an empty toolhead with a powderdie in the station 1 position and thesupplied alignment tool as shown in

[FIGURE 6]. Position the toolhead in theframe (be certain to install toolhead pins)and raise the platform up until the smalldiameter end of the alignment tool goes

freely into the primer punch hole [FIGURE

7] you will need to pull the spring-loadedplunger back out of the way. Radialadjustment may be necessary to get the tool

to go in and out freely. Once this has beenaccomplished, +firmly tighten down thetwo bolts [FIGURE 8]. Cycle the operatinghandle, watching the alignment tool movein and out of the primer punch hole. Makesure the tool goes freely after tightening thescrews. You will need to make sure that thelower casefeed assembly that you just

installed does not make contact with theprimer feed body on the priming stroke[FIGURE 9]. If it does, you will need toloosen and rotate the platformcounterclockwise and retighten. Removethe toolhead and alignment tool once youare finished.

7. Remove the two rear mounting bolts andthe front right mounting bolt holding themachine down to the strong mount orbench.

8. Attach the CF Post Support (part #18907)as shown in [FIGURE 10] with the left rearmounting screw only, finger tight only, donot fully tighten.9. Align the rear hole in the 550 CasefeedCam (part #18911) with the right rearmounting hole in the machine frame

[FIGURE 11] and reinstall the 1/4 -20 boltwith washer and finger tighten the nut. Pullthe plunger back and rotate the cam intoposition so the front mounting hole on thecam aligns with the front mounting hole inframe and reinstall the 1/4 -20 bolt andfinger tighten the nut [FIGURE 11]. Werecommend that the adjustment becompleted without a shellplate on theplatform so that the bearing on the plungerwill be allowed to bottom out on thehousing. Adjustment of the cam is asfollows: start with the cam pushed all theway back toward the post support and pullthe operating handle down until the rollerjust reaches the center of the flat on the

cam[FIGURE 12] (Hint: You can use apowder die to support the platform inposition needed for cam adjustment – see[FIGURE 13]). Slide the cam forward until itjust barely touches the roller and tightenthe two mounting bolts on the cam (besure not to release the handle until they aretightened). Make sure that the roller on theplunger is centered on the cam and tightenthe mounting bolts. Cycle the operatinghandle a few times and make sure theplunger operates freely.

washers and nuts that are supplied in thehardware package. The post will have somemovement to it once the bolts have beentightened down. Set the 550 CF Upper BowlAssembly (part #96001) onto the post andusing the 1/4 - 20 x 1/2” screw (supplied inthe hardware bag) finger tighten the screwagainst the post. Insert the 550 CF UpperCasefeed Tube (part #18910) into the clip onthe casefeed bowl, double check that theflare on the tube is the end that is inserted[FIGURE 17]. Install the casefeed adaptor(from the conversion kit that you separatelypurchased) into the mounting hole on the550 CF Lower Feeder Assembly, make sure toalign the notch on the adaptor with thecorresponding cutout in the housing. Insertthe Lower Casefeed Tube (part #18908) intothe adaptor and clip the tube into themounting clip attached to the Lower FeederAssembly [FIGURE 18].

Slide the large end of the micro switchhousing over the Upper Casefeed Tube andthen slide it down until the Lower CaseFeed Tube will insert into the Micro SwitchHousing, once installed it should appear asshown in the upper left hand view. Makesure that all of the tubes are in alignmentthen tighten the screw locking the UpperCasefeed Bowl Assembly to the post.

13. Once you have the casefeeder setupand before you set the machine up to loada caliber, insert the Station 1 Locator fromyour conversion kit into the casefeedhousing as shown in[FIGURE 19]. Once the Station 1 Locator is installed, setup the machine with the shellplate anddie set for the desired caliber you are goingto load, don’t forget to install the casefeedplate. In the hardware bag is included alarge 13/16” washer, this is the spacer forthe casefeed plate (please referenceattached chart for plate size). If youreference the list supplied it will indicatewhich calibers require the spacer (seeattached view for installation). The clutchon the casefeed plate is factory pre-set at 5in/lbs of torque, this will allow the plate toslip if it should become jammed. Over

tightening the clutch will not let it operatecorrectly and can cause motor failure. Werecommend that you fill the casefeederwith two scoops of shells with the 550cartridge bin so as not to over fill thecasefeed bowl. When you are ready to loadif you pull the operating handle to thedown position (before you turn on thecasefeeder) it will make certain that the firstcase that drops does not have thepossibility of falling over. After there are atleast 5-6 cases in the tube you can releasethe operating handle. If you begin toexperience a problem with the case notfeeding into the shellplate, die or the caseis bouncing out of the shellplate then youwill need to refer to the troubleshootingsection for fine adjustment procedures forthe cam.

• Fine Adjustment of Cam: If you areexperiencing a problem with the case notfeeding all of the way into the shellplate(and/or sizing die) or bouncing back out ofthe shellplate, you will need to fine adjustthe cam for each and every caliber that youare loading. You will want to start with acase from the caliber you are preparing toload in the first station of the shellplate. Inthe following procedure you will practicallyrepeat the steps for setting up the cam oninitial installation with the exception ofletting the plunger rest on the case in theshellplate instead of the housing. Pull theoperating handle down until roller oncasefeed plunger reaches about the center ofthe flat on the cam and the plunger is restingon the case in the shellplate. Loosen thecam and slide it in or out until it is justbarely touching the roller, then re-tighten themounting bolts on the cam, be sure not torelease the handle until tightened. Once youhave finished loading the caliber that youhave fine-tuned the cam for, you will want toreturn it to its original position by repeatingthe setup steps in Note 9 [FIGURE 20].

• If you are having trouble with the casesliding through or sticking in the Station 1locator make sure there are no burrs on the

inside edges of the tracks or that they havenot been bent or crushed.• If you are experiencing a sticky actionwith the plunger you may have tumblingmedia or other debris that is causing theplunger to stick or bind. You will have toremove the shellplate, shellplate bolt, indexing star and the Station 1 locator soyou can remove the plunger from thecasefeed body. To remove the plunger itwill be easier to pull the operating handledown so the roller is on flat in the center ofthe cam to reduce spring tension. Slowlyremove the shoulder bolt and twobearings. The spring will want to push theplunger out of the body, once the bolt isout remove the plunger and spring fromthe body. Use a clean rag to wipe off theplunger and the inside of the housing. Re-lube the plunger and housing with MIL-COMM TW-25B (part #15732) grease orequivalent. You can also re-lube thebearing assembly at this time. Re-insertspring into plunger and slide assembly intohousing making sure spring is held downby the pin at end of housing. Installbearing assembly and tighten. At this timealso lube the channel that the bearing ridesin on the housing with the same grease.• If you have double feed, it will be easiestto clear out the lower feed tube andremove the casefeed adaptor so you canpull the plunger all the way back andremove the cases.• If you are having trouble with the caselining up or jamming in the sizing diemouth, make sure you are using a sizingdie with a radiused entry on the mouth. Werecommend that a Dillon Sizing Die beused – Dillon dies have radiused mouthsthat allow the case to enter the die easier.• If you need further assistance please call:1-800-223-4570

Increase the stability ofyour reloading bench

with Dillon’s new StrongMounts. These heavygauge steel Strong Mountsincrease the machine’s“footprint” to over 10”,spreading the load over the whole benchinstead of stressing the leading edge.

Strong Mounts raise your machine 6” to 8”,providing a comfortable work height for peo-ple who prefer to stand while reloading. Forsome XL 650 owners, overhead clearance canbecome a problem, so we designed a mountespecially for this application. The XL 650-onlymount raises the machine 6” above the benchtop. All mounts come with all the fastenersnecessary to mount your machine (550/650mount includes RL 550B bin bracket) and arecoated with a durable black wrinkle finish.

RL550/XL650 Strong Mount Stock #22051

Dillon’s original RL1000 came

equipped with a simple, shallow aluminum bul-let tray that wasdesigned for economyof motion when loading. For years, our attemptsto duplicate the efficiency and the “feel” ofthat tray in other machine applications wereless than satisfactory. It took the developmentof the Strong Mount for the RL 550 and the XL650 to enable us to place the redesigned trayexactly where it needed to be.

Our aluminum tray works on the SquareDeal ‘B’, the RL 550B and XL 650 whenequipped with the RL 550/XL 650 StrongMount, and a separate kit is available forthe RL 1050. Comes with a Dillon Bluepowder coat finish.

Magnum rifle cartridges can requirefrom 70 grains to well in excess of 100

grains for a single charge. Our new “BeltedMagnum” Powder System features a new,maximum-capacity, steel powder bar thatcan dispense more than 100 grains ofextruded IMR powder.

Our magnum powder system can beused with your RL 550B, XL 650 or AT500 reloader, and is ideal for loadinglarge-caliber, magnum rifle cartridges. We tested this system with variousextruded rifle powders and found thatpowder charge variations stayed withinplus-or-minus three-tenths of a grain.

The “Belted Magnum” Powder System is

based on our SL 900 Shot Dispenser, so theMaximum Charge Bar won’t work in ourstandard powder measures – you’ll need tobuy the entire system. The good news is thatthe “Belted Magnum” Powder System has anintegral drain, so it’s easy to empty thehopper in order to change powder types; so,

if you load several big calibers withvarious powders, it’s easy to switch from

one to another.Keep plenty of extra powder on hand, because when you’re dispensing 100-plus grains into every cartridge, you’re

gonna need it!Magnum Powder System
