In the early 90s, Steven founded and ran one of the !rst online sports retailers in Europe.  In 2002, he founded a consulting organization that believed there would be a return to client-server models, with clients in the browser and servers in the cloud.  In 3 years, he became the world-leading consultancy in delivering Rich Internet Applications upon Macromedia technology, and exited in a sale to Macromedia/Adobe. Inside of Adobe, Steven incubated and built an entirely new consulting organization, that brought design-thinking to technology consulting.

Presenting: Design for Multiscreen

Recent research from Microsoft has uncovered 4 very distinct pathways, that de!ne how consumers move across different screens and devices inside of any particular consumer journey.  Designing responsive experiences, or device-speci!c experiences, is no longer a suf!cient multiscreen strategy.  Instead, we must understand how consumers move across devices inside of more connected experiences, so that we can deliver the right experience, on the right device, at the right time.  Steven Webster, Senior Director of Experience Design in Microsoft Online Services Division, will share considerations when designing for multiscreen.  He will explore how to think about TV, Tablet and Phone, as well as “screenless” experiences that rely on natural user interfaces beyond touch, to gesture and speech.

Presenting: Reinvigorating Stagnant Innovation Through your DeveloperInnovation is a constant struggle for any organization, but what do you do once you have been deemed irrelevant and innovation stagnant?

The hardest part in changing external opinions is in giving up control over your development path, allowing your community to guide your future.  It all starts with asking them, “What do you want us to do?”.

This session will explore how to build a developer network community to reinvigorate your company innovation, taken from building two highly successful company developer networks.  We’ll look at how to track success metrics, begin engagement, and change towards an innovative development model.

Presenting: The Fidelity Trap - When and How to Polish Pixels as Part of Product Development

One of the great challenges for designers is presenting the right level of detail at the right time.  One pixel too polished - your stakeholders are distracted.  Too raw - and key concepts are often dif!cult to convey.  With the tools of prototyping and design !ction becoming ever more accessible (think of all those depth of !eld effect product videos on Kickstarter) - choosing medium, means and timing of design materials is not as straightforward as sketch-wireframe-mock-go.  Charlie will discuss the interplay between !delity of material and decision making for complex products.

For the past several years Rob has been building websites for both fun and pro!t that take the latest front end technologies to their limits, doing wildly improbable things like recreating the Mac OS X desktop in the browser. He eats CSS3/HTML5/JavaScript/ and jQuery for breakfast. His latest passion is ensuring that the sites we build are as Responsive as possible, and he won’t have it any other way -- the !rst thing that comes out of his mouth for a new client is “I can’t wait to see it on mobile!”

Presenting: Rethink Your Design for a Million-Device WorldResponsive Design is arguably both the biggest step forward and the biggest buzzword in web design today. This talk isn't about building a responsive design; it's about changing how you think about design in the !rst place. Admit it: you don't know where your design will be viewed – so it’s essential that you know how to design and create buildable, sustainable sites that move and scale from the smallest to the largest screens, regardless of content. (Because hey, you don’t not know what that will be either.) Scale, proportion and contrast alter visual and cognitive relationships immensely, and successful designers learn to embrace that #uidity in order to create the most engaging and innovative sites and apps. This talk will help identify new design techniques and approaches that will help you successfully convey meaning and understanding on screens and devices of all kinds. The future is not on your desktop, so you’d best learn to design for it wherever it is.
