Digital Sensei Program

description

We have developed a program called Digital Sensei, which can be scaled throughout an entire workforce. Digital Sensei evokes the image of a calm and confident master, who has earned rank by overcoming different challenges and learning sets of practical skills. While there are no punishments for lack of achievement, there are numerous rewards for self-motivated progression.

Overview

Digital Sensei employs both physical and virtual belt systems. Because the digital skills requirements are different for each job within a workforce, benchmarks are set for staff individually based on job function. Therefore, an accountant will have just as many opportunities to become a black belt as a senior executive. Effort and drive to become a better staff member earn belt colors. To be sure, in positions where digital skills are a critical component of job function, proficiency is also tested.

Digital Sensei provides a workflow for training, but it also establishes benchmarks and a system for measuring success in staff development. HR and management should be able to quantify not just how many hours of training each department/ person has received, but also what important digital skills have been learned and put to use.

All staff begin with a white belt. Before moving on to the next level, they must demonstrate mastery of their required Digital Sensei white belt skills. By completing training in groups and on their own, they earn belt colors and distinctions as well as rewards.

We recommend making the belt colors visible to other staff members in order to provide additional motivation, support and opportunities to feel pride among peers. There are many ways to achieve this:

•Use a badge next to Intranet user profiles displaying color and/or rank•During all-staff meetings or training sessions, use color-coded stickers on name badges•Use staff bulletin boards or other areas inside of offices to show staff accomplishments•Mention new staff rankings conferred in any internal publications or newsletters

We Know Tech

“One ideation session with Webbmedia Group has led to more than a dozen viable new product ideas. We accomplished more with you this week than we did the first half of this year. Thank you so much!”

-- Randy, senior leadership, large technology company

“In the past year working with Webbmedia Group, we’ve seen all of the most game-changing and disruptive networks and apps several months before anyone else had heard about them. As a result, we were able to have the very first meetings with developers and we had a huge competitive advantage over everyone else in our industry. Webbmedia Group has kept us far ahead of the eight ball. Their analysis and point of view is a vital part of our business strategy.”

-- Ken, executive management, media company

“Amy knows what is going on with new media and is finding innovative ways to share and teach. I have attended a number of her sessions on content management, social media and technology changes in the journalism industry. Each time she hits the nail on the head. I hope to get a chance to work with her again soon.”

-- Jen, manager, broadcast company

“My mind is continually blown. Your strategies always, always work. What would we do without you?”

-- Chris, executive management, national retail chain

“I really liked the hands-on approach. Having a computer in front of us, and being able to mess around with the things [Webbmedia’s consultant] was explaining as he described them, made it engaging, and made me more likely to return to these tools, because I could look at the great results popping up in front of me. Here’s to more hands-on!”

-- Julia, senior management, large financial institution.
