SENIOR DAY

SENIOR DAY 2016#22 Melissa Perkins • RHP • Park Forest, Ill.Perkins is the Falcons career wins leader with 54 victories.

In addition, she has won double-digit games in each of

her four seasons, including a program-best 16 in 2013 and

2015. Perkins owns a career ERA of 2.85, posting a 2.02

mark her sophomore season. The senior has struck out

281 batters compared to just 103 walks. She also has 43

complete games in her career.

FAVORITE CUW SOFTBALL MOMENT: One of my favorite softball moments was beating Carthage down in Florida my freshman year. It was my first big win with the team and I have honestly never forgotten it. Oh and also that one time I hit a home run in the conference tournament and then cried. Classic Perkins...

WHAT YOU WILL MISS THE MOST ABOUT CUW SOFTBALL: I’ll miss the little game day rituals. I’ll miss the handshake with Coach Steele before every inning, calling Coach Crook every time there’s a new pitcher. I’ll miss yelling out “Brekkin it down” even though Emily hates it. But what I’ll miss the most is the view from the pitchers circle. I’ll miss seeing Carly behind the plate with my parents behind in the stands along with friends and alumni. I’ll miss seeing the coaches getting a little nervous in the dugout when I give up a home run in the top of the 7th (gotta keep it in-teresting). And I’ll miss seeing all of my teammates running across the field enjoying the game as much as I always am.

ADVICE TO TEAMMATES AND FUTURE FALCONS: My advice is to never take a moment for granted. I cherish every moment of my softball career (perhaps except for the bluff runs) and I would give anything to go back and relive all four years. Your teammates will become your best friends and your teammates’ families will become your families. Spend as much time as you can out on that field and spend that time with your best friends because four years go by so fast. Oh and my last piece of advice is don’t stop by Coach’s office if you have any plans within the next hour and a half.

THANK YOU: Thank you to every teammate I’ve had in the past four years whether you played for two days or four years, you have shaped this program and my time on the team. Thank you to my coaches for helping me become a better softball player and a better leader as well as putting up with me even when they’re stressing me out. Thank you to all four of my buddies for being some of my best friends and always being someone to lean on. Thank you to Car for being the other half of the battery for three years, knowing me better than I know myself in most aspects of my life, and pushing me to be a better softball player. Finally thank you to my parents for always making softball happen for me. Whether it’s driving me to tournaments at 5am or buying a last-minute ticket to Florida to watch games, my parents have done everything they could to support me. They have pushed me to always be better and hold myself to high expectations, they’re kinda the best.

One stat impressive about the Falcons senior pitcher is she is the only pitcher in program history to win

10-plus games each of her four years with the team.

Perkins has issued just 103 walks in 520 innings for the Falcons. She has struck out 281 during that time.

Perkins owns a 2.85 career ERA. In two seasons (2014, 2016) she has posted an ERA under 3.00. Perkins best ERA was 2.02 in 2014.
