You will need the manual for the safety warnings and precautions, assembly instructions,operating and maintenance procedures, parts list and diagram. Keep your invoice with thismanual. Safety Warnings and Precautions

WARNING: When using tool, basic safety precautions should always be followed toreduce the risk of personal injury and damage to equipment.

Read all instructions before using this tool!

1. Keep work area clean. Cluttered areas invite injuries.

2. Observe work area conditions. Do not use tools in damp or wet locations. Don’texpose to rain. Keep work area well lit.

3. Keep children away. Children must never be allowed in the work area. Do not letthem handle the Caliper.

4. Store idle equipment. When not in use, tools must be stored in a dry location toinhibit rust. Always lock up tools and keep out of reach of children.

5. Use the right tool for the job. Do not attempt to force a small tool or attachment todo the work of a larger industrial tool. There are certain applications for which this toolwas designed. It will do the job better and more safely at the rate for which it wasintended. Do not modify this tool and do not use this tool for a purpose for which itwas not intended.

6. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry as they can be caught inmoving parts. Protective, electrically nonconductive clothes and nonskid footwear arerecommended when working. Wear restrictive hair covering to contain long hair.

7. Use eye protection. Always wear ANSI approved impact safety goggles.

8. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.

9. Maintain tools with care. Keep tools clean for better and safer performance. .

10. Stay alert. Watch what you are doing, use common sense. Do not operate any toolwhen you are tired.

11. Check for damaged parts. Before using any tool, any part that appears damagedshould be carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly and perform itsintended function. Check for alignment and binding of moving parts; any broken partsor mounting fixtures; and any other condition that may affect proper operation. Anypart that is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced by a qualifiedtechnician. Do not use the tool if any switch does not turn On and Off properly.

12. Replacement parts and accessories. When servicing, use only identicalreplacement parts. Use of any other parts will void the warranty. Only use accessoriesintended for use with this tool. Approved accessories are available from HarborFreight Tools.

13. Do not operate tool if under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Read warninglabels if taking prescription medicine to determine if your judgment or reflexes areimpaired while taking drugs. If there is any doubt, do not operate the tool.

14. Maintenance. For your safety, service and maintenance should be performedregularly by a qualified technician.

Operation

Measuring Disc (Drum Shoe) Pad Thickness

1. Place the Caliper tips on both sides of the “pad backingplate”, holding the flat side flush with the surface. Donot apply pressure to the Caliper jaws. Press ZERO.

2. Next, position the Caliper tips around both the backingplate and pad with the flat tip flush on the backing plate,and the point in any scoring on the pad. Check the dis-play, and the reading shown will be the thickness of thepad. Note: On the drum shoe, the flat tip must be heldflat across the pad.

Set-Up

1. Install the battery as per the instructions on page 6.

2. Press the On/Off button. Press the in/mm button to toggle between the desired unitreading measurement. Wipe the tips of the Caliper clean and then close the Caliperuntil the tips gently touch, and press the Zero button. The display will read, “0.000 or0.00mm”. Do not force the Caliper closed when getting a reading, or the reading will bewrong.

Measuring Ball Joint Play

1. You will be measuring from the top to the bottom of the Ball Joint when the Ball ismoved from the top position to the bottom position.

2. The vehicle must be safely suspended so that the front suspension arms are hangingloose. Place the Caliper tips at convenient locations both at the top and bottom of theBall Joint. Press ZERO.

3. Lift the spindle (wheel) while closing the Caliper on the Ball Joint as the Ball movesfrom the top to the bottom position. Once all the play has been removed, check thedigital readout to see the Ball Joint Play. Check with your service manual for allowableplay.

Measuring Disc Rotor Thickness

1. Place the Caliper tips on both sides of the rotor andlightly close it so that the flat side is flush on the rotorsurface (this side of the rotor must be flat to get an accu-rate reading). Make sure the pointed tip is in any scor-ing on the rotor.

2. The display will show the Disc Rotor Thickness. Yourservice manual (not included) will state the minimumallowed rotor thickness.

Maintenance

1. Wipe the Caliper clean with a lint free cloth.

2. Always keep the Caliper in the protective case in the OFF position when not in use.

3. When the battery becomes low, the numeric display will begin to flash. Follow thedirections below to change the battery. Only use a 1.5 Volt (SS44) battery.

Remove the cover. Remove and replace the Battery making sure that you replace theBattery identically to how the original battery was positioned. Replace the cover.

Note: Other than the battery mentioned above, there are no replacement parts for this unit.
