Popular Conventions of an Indie Music Digipak As Indie music is alternative , most digipaks are designed for the

genre follow this theme They tend not to feature the band , and instead have pictures and

colours which help the digipak stand out An example of this would be ‘Mylo Xyloto’, by Coldplay, which uses a range

of graffiti style designs throughout their digipak

Generally, if the band is featured on the cover, it is likely that they will not be in there true form, and instead either animated or in the form of a cartoon.

Some digipaks only feature the title of the band on the cover, with no specific title of the album, For example Blink 182’s album titled ‘Blink 182’, or Kasabian’s album titled

‘Kasabian’

Usually, text is not written in a plain dull font, but instead quite an individual text font is often employed

Why do people like and buy digipaks? Alot of people buy digipaks, particularly in the older

generation, as they see them as something different. People like to collect digipaks, not only to have the album,

but they feel they are getting something more, they are getting something they can collect and keep.

If someone’s a fan of a particular band, they may feel that spending that much extra to get a digipak will not only last longer, but also they can add it to their collection

Particularly in the modern era, with services such as Spotify and Itunes that allow you to quickly buy an album, having a digipak is something different and unique that the majority of people don’t experience any more, and as a result, if the digipak is particularly nice to look at, it is more likely that people will buy it over than paying less to get it online.
